Is this String too damaged to play with?

Bad idea. Using an awl (pathfinder or regular) still risks damaging the string (especially with natural gut).

Is this String too damaged to play with?

@Romix, Many of the Angell frames (as well as some other frames) fall into a category that I jokingly refer to as "problem child" racquets. I have the solution, which you seek, that will completely eliminate the double blocked grommet issue. I'll send you a PM. As for the NG strings that are...

    (y) Agreed (and it's especially bad/even worse with people starting mains poorly with floating/flying clamps).

    High Stringer

@Captain Crunch, As I read through your post, I was mentally tracking the numerous variables which can/do affect one string job resulting in a tighter (or looser) completed string bed. There are numerous factors that could/can cause what you've described. However, as I continued to carefully...

Best machine for beginner (budget $1500)?

Once again, Irvin is spreading misinformation. @ichaseballs, His statement is not true. Babolat, Head, Dunlop, & Solinco all make linear gripper eCP machines that don't have a diabolo. If one is going to make sweeping statements about something, they should, at minimum, be...

Best machine for beginner (budget $1500)?

You seem to be confused. The round thing you are talking about (on a Gamma X-ST) is the roller guide, not a clutch. A clutch is utilized on some (but not all) drop-weight tensioners.

Biardo clamps on a Gamma Crank?

There's a lot more to this than just loosening the bolts. There are numerous variables involved. That help door has been unlocked for days. However, you have to open it.

    Gamma Progression ST II

Correct, the I.D. is 12mm (since Gamma string clamps have 12mm posts). Yes. Sent you a PM.

That's not necessarily true. I really doubt that's true either.

Wise on a Alpha slide bar lockout?

Absolutely correct. However, I'm 99.8% certain that Paul used an eCP (Star 5) for that experiment.

Alpha is now offering 3 toothed clamps? If so, this would certainly be news to me.

Wise on a Alpha slide bar lockout?

This variable is very easily "solved"/eliminated whilst using a typical crank machine. Therefore, that factor really is (i.e. should be) a non-issue.
  20. W

Wise on a Alpha slide bar lockout?

You've said this twice now. What exactly is a "slide bar stringer"? Do you mean that your Alpha machine has glide-bar clamps?

Wise on a Alpha slide bar lockout?

That depends on your definition of "precision". By my definition... no, you will not gain precision.

    Eagnas clamps

@mario17, For starters... Measure the diameter of the posts on your current string clamps. Are they 12.0mm? Are they 12.2mm? Some other measurement? IF you plan to use a new pair of string clamps with your existing clamp bases, you need to make sure any replacement string clamps (that you are...

Help Needed To Idenify Stringing Tool

@MysteryMan, It's called a "Pathfinder Awl" (a.k.a. "guide awl"). However, if you watch/read the following, I think you'll find my ribbon trick to be far easier/quicker/sure fire (and far less expensive as well) than using a Pathfinder awl. I have at least 4 or 5 of those Pathfinder awls (one...
