Federer is still #1 in the most important ranking

"Federer is the top-earning tennis player for the ninth straight year with $67 million from prize money, endorsements, appearances and exhibitions between June 1, 2014, and June 1, 2015."

    Novak will win 18

He doesn't have roger's natural talent. His game is physical. I don't think his body will hold out. Kinda like Nadal.

    Jazz, My other hobby

Keep trying all kinds of different instruments! You'll find some suit you more than others. For me, and I think generally, the saxophone is easy to learn to play songs on, but hard to make sound good. What kind of music where you playing on guitar? I also learned how to play chords and basic...

How to develop a more solid serve?

Thanks- It's been a fun journey. There aren't many good players out here so practicing serve was a default and then it became fun. I don't swing all out though most of the time because I'd kill my arm. What I did was focus on good smooth contact. Btw- I once asked roger federer if the best way...

How to develop a more solid serve?

regarding op: I've played all my life, 4.5/5.0 level. I've spent almost the last 2 years working to improve my serve which I considered the weakest part of my game. (Interestingly though I got a lot of good feedback on my serve videos I posted about a year ago here). I've practiced 3-4 days per...

Please help me with my serve!

Interesting problem. The two serves do look different. My initial feeling is that with the ball you get to concerned about hitting it instead of trusting the motion. Instead think drop, toss, throw the racquet. Focus on the the throwing part. DONT WORRY where the ball goes just keep practicing...

    Some tips reminders on serve

In the constant self analysis and adjustment process, it's really amazing how many moving parts there are in the serve, I realized today that something weird was going on with my tossing arm pit. At the peak of the the toss I noticed I'd stretch my arm up (as if to help the ball get higher up)...

    Some tips reminders on serve

Definitely loose. I think total can complete relaxation is the key to all of the life's mysteries. Def true on the serve in a major way. You can get pretty deep into the idea of levels of relaxation and looseness though. How loose can you get? -).

    Transition from 4.5 to 5.0 ?

When I was playing league tennis in SF the only people that got bumped up from our very good 4.5 club team were the 5.0's who were sand bagging to begin with. I know of 4 out of our group of about 20-25 players.

    Some tips reminders on serve

Took a couple weeks off. Seeing things freshly. 1. Re-evaluate your mental state / mental toughness on court (don't take sh*t from no one). REmember how capable you are and be relentless in implementing your talent, regardless of what your opponent does. 2. Lower your toss. 3. Keep still...

my first serve revisited - now with SLOW MO

Looks like you will be able to get a good serve going. Keep your body more still and relaxed. Try the Agassi drill where he is hitting serves with the racquet up already. Makes you focus on acceleration at the end and makes you realize most of the power comes at the end of the serve. Then take a...

i though rafa played well today?

ND had him on a string the whole match. He was never worried at all. I'm no a RN fan but I never thought I'd see him beat so handily on clay. Guess he is not 100%. Don't know what's wrong with him. It did cross my mind that he doesn't seem to had that youthful skinniness anymore. ND still has...

tips and tricks for the overhead smash

forget anything you've heard about foot work or turning your body or etc etc. instead pretend your back in little league or high school baseball team and imagine you are going to catch the ball that should get you in good position to swing at it.

    Power

So wrt to my post on serve this is what I practice: 1. Agassi video: Reminds me how easy it is to place the ball if you have "goood contact" as someone mentions....I don't use my legs as much as agassi here- just to put more emphasis on seeing what my arm/wrist can do...

    Best shoes for knees

I almost only use the asics gel res 5's for tennis (on the court- not out and about). I play / practice 3-4 per week for 2-4hrs. How often should I get new shoes? Note: 1-2 of those days can be soley serve practice.

    Power

    1) More and more for me on serve I feel like most of the power comes from the shoulder/arm/wrist. I must be doing a lot wrong because when I do the half serve (starting w/ the racquet up) I seem to get 90% of my power w/o use of a full swing and only minimal use of legs - plus better control..

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast

sometimes if you watch a pro practice on a side view - you can think to yourself - "physically those motions don't look all the difficult"...."not like trying to do an MJ dunk or something.....you think "anyone can move around and swing the racquet like that"....I guess the magic is in the timing.
  27. crash1929

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast

-I'm applying this concept to my serve. If I try to kill it and loose my balance it can goes very fast (Guess over 100mph) but its very inconsistent- almost lucky to go in. If I stay ultra balanced and slow It goes in more with more control and probably low 90's. I now spend lots of time trying...
