I certainly enjoy singles more than doubles, but I doubt that is true. The USTA provides minimal singles opportunities and plenty of doubles play. Spring NTRP has 2 singles lines & 3 doubles Summer Mixed is all doubles...and painful to watch Fall Combo is all doubles Tournament...

You can't call a 1st serve out because it can be advantagous to the server to do so (return winner, etc). Any other shot, you may call out as there is zero benefit to a player that does this. It's also referred to as sportsmanship.

It is definately hit or miss. I wish the USTA sent you an online survey afterwards & the TD's that score too low be suspended from hosting. The shotty tournaments really put a bad taste in the mouth of players & discourage them from playing in the 90% of events that are well run.

Part of being a captain is being a bad guy. Frankly, just tell him that you don't think they make a good team & you are going to play him with someone else. Worst case scenario...he quits your team & you have one less weak player to figure into a lineup.

I can see how it would be more stable, but I would have to practice a ton to be able to play 2HBH volleys. Of course, I was originally a racquetball player so I use one hand on all strokes naturally.

I'd say build 6 clay & 2 hard courts. The old farts will be happy with the soft surface & the kids can still play on hard court, with a place to cross train for their clay tournaments. Grass is unrealistic in Canada.

Crosscourt covers the middle is the higher percentage play. If there is a disparity in ability, then maybe the stronger player should try to cover more & thus take the middle. I don't think forehand or backhand should make the rule.

At 6-all in any set I believe that it was so close that a 7-point tiebreaker is fine to decide it. Those types of sets normally come down to a point either way so it doesn't matter to me whether that is in a tiebreaker or during additional games. Good attitude...it's "a skill to work on"...
