Wimbledon 2007 and 2008, best back-to-back Wimbledon finals of all time?

Interesting thing about those two finals is that the mental side was reversed: In 2007 Rafa was still a bit awed by Federer's grass-court record, and despite having a slight edge in the baseline rallies, he got nervous and lost confidence down the stretch. 2008, coming just after Nadal's...

    Gut/poly - what am I doing wrong?

Although gut/poly setups tested in the TW University lab have shown some of the lowest string-on-string coefficients measured, these setups have never been directly tested for spin potential. That is, while TWU has compared various poly strings with various natural guts, synthetic guts and...

    Nadal and small Handles

The small grip allows the racquet to rotate an additional amount in the hand during the rapid transition from takeback to forward swing (the "flip" as Macci calls it). This additional rotation puts the head of the racquet further behind him (toward the side fence to his right for a lefty like...

Can anyone recommend a reliable resource to repaint tennis frames?

BHBH, You may be onto a good lead already, but there were a couple threads a year or so ago about a process for stripping paint involving bombarding with plastic pellets. I wish I could remember the name for it, but it definitely sounded like the way to go in terms of stripping - all the paint...

    String Advice for a Maestro

Syngut mains snap very fast for me sliding on poly crosses. Otherwise, this config plays pretty well. For me, gut/poly is a better option because the gut mains last long enough to justify their cost. Gut/poly is also the most consistent poly-based setup over the lifespan of the stringjob that...

Will very low tension causes racket vibration...

Yeah, like Shroud said, strings at low tensions can vibrate at a frequency that resonates with the vibration frequency of the racquet. That said, I'm a big fan of low tension poly. If I can't afford gut/poly (at mid-tension) my second favorite setup is a slick copoly at 35-40. But I would...

    Great interview with Edberg

Apologies if this has been posted already. Interesting that Edberg says that, if he had it to do over again, he would have stayed at the baseline more often because serve-and-volley all the time was too predictable, even in the 90s.

Alternatives to stapling the butt cap?

Handle foam is made of polyurethane so polyurethane glue works well - Gorilla Glue is the most widely available in the US. You can also use clear packing tape stretched very tight and wound twice around from bottom of cap. This tape works well for a long time and is easily reversible.

Wilson releasing Pro Staff 97S for Dimitrov (specs. included)

Adding mass to the handle is unlikely to help. You're having problems with the high swingweight, not the long balance.

Agassi vs. Djokovic would of been grand

Djokovic is a significantly better player. Agassi is an all-time great, but Nole is in the very top-tier, in terms of level of play, IMHO. Agassi has said several times, as have others of that era (notably Lendl) that the top guys today play at a higher level then the 90s guys did. BTW...

Best Ways To Make Yonex Grip Like A Prince

Gaffer tape on bare handle. You need to put it on the four narrowest bevels (2, 4, 6, 8). But, Prince actually has different grip shapes for smaller and larger handle sizes. The above will work if you're trying to match a larger prince grip size (L3 or larger). To be precise, you'd want...

    Switch now or later?

I disagree. I think your friend, and you, should just stick with your APDs and learn how to play tennis. Worrying about racquets before you have solid, repeatable, sound technique and movement is a total waste of time. Just play, have fun and improve. Racquets and strings are the last thing...

How similar is Federers real racket to retail version?

Peter, what layup modifications needed to be made to make the lighter PS97? Obviously it's got less mass in the handle, which is easy to explain. But it's also a bit more flexible and has less mass in the head (lower swingweight). Does Wilson achieve this by reducing the number of...

Grip size decreasing as skill increases?

I have a feeling that both Fed and Nadal use small grips because they never up-sized as they got older. Using the one-finger rule they were probably fitted in their early teens and just stuck with that size as they grew. Accidental. But it may not be coincidental that these two developed the...

    VCore Tour F

Let's assume that the fins actually do something. Then, yes, I would not want to put lead on them. But as you say, you can always tuck the lead under the bumper if your test with lead on the fins is positive. You need the lead at the tip, too - lead any lower on the hoop and you won't get the...

Hey, Serb4Life, how did you like Tour XT?

what is causing high launch angle?

I've used Silverstring crosses with gut mains. Works well. Good comfort and feel. Personally, I would choose it over 4G - 4G is Much stiffer - but it does not hold tension as well as 4G does. Going from 4G crosses to Silverstring crosses I would up the tension by maybe 5 pounds.

    VCore Tour F

Edberg, I would think leading up a VCTF 93 to match your VCT 89 would provide a very interesting comparison. Lead at 12 and buttcap would get you there pretty easy. (This would also soften the frame.)

    Need the anti-spin racquet.

Ashaway Zyex Dynamite is the least spin-friendly string yet tested in TW University experiments. You might want to try that. It's also very arm-friendly. (Ashwaway's Monogut ZX, also a Zyex string, is completely different and pretty spin-friendly.)

    Prince Tour XT?

Hey Rabbit, many thanks for your detailed impressions. Sounds like an awesome string. I'm going to order some up and will try it in a full bed. I'm normally a gut/poly guy, but the lab results I posted in the OP show that XT's crucial specs - stiffness, energy return - are identical to OGSM...

what is causing high launch angle?

It certainly can, and does. See this paper, which reports on experiments with a variety of multifilament and copoly strings in various patterns. The variation in rebound angle (see section 2B-4, "average rebound angle vs. racquet) was about 6 degrees from the most flat-hitting multi and the...

what is causing high launch angle?

4G dents and notches pretty badly compared to other poly crosses with gut mains. When the crosses dent the mains have a harder time sliding freely to snap back into place. If the gut mains manage to slide sideways during impact, but then fail to snap back into place, you get less spin and a...

    Prince Tour XT?

Thanks Toby. Feel and control are important to me too, but playability duration is a big for me as well. Notching and denting quickly destroy the feel, spin potential (and thus control) and comfort of copoly stringbeds. People typically focus on tension loss with copoly strings, but I think...
