    The English Let

It happens in the US for sure and I'll tell my opponent, politely of course, that if they are not sure, then the ball is in, period. I tell them to go read 'The code'. I don't get mad about it the first time they do it, but I just assume they don't know any better and will appreciate being told...

    NTRP rating please

The strokes look nice, I wasn't trying to bash them, but this is his highlight reel so this is the best of it I assume. The main problem is that there are no extended rallies at all. Without seeing more, why should I think they are any better than 3.5 at best? If these guys are 3.5 or better...

    NTRP rating please

    I would guess a strong 3.0 to 3.5.

    Ever chew gum while playing?

I do. I chew gum constantly, and it gives me something to direct my nervous energy into. After several games, I spit it out and don't want another, but I like having a pretty fresh piece when I start. Orbit gum is great and last for a good amount of time.

How many of you live in North Carolina?

I'm a 3.0 in Greensboro, NC. And if you are looking for players then we have almost 70 NC players wanting to play signed up and looking for tennis partners at www.TennisPulse.org. Most around Greensboro and High Point, but there are others some in Asheville, RDU, and Wilmington. Looks like...

    Saddlebrook and NBTA

If you are in Orlando, then this is a nice place (http://www.star-island.com/) its in kissimee, which is only 5-10 minutes from Orlando. We stayed here back in October and it was really nice. I'm going to be back down there in late June. When is your trip?

New to League Play - A little nervous

Congrats Congrats brandonw. Sounds like a decent first match. Actually sounds a lot better than most of my matches this week, so I'm glad to hear you got that one behind you and got a little more experience in.

New to League Play - A little nervous

Brandonw, I think one thing I see over and over from the 'new guy' (including me when I new), was that the new guy often causes lots of problems for the court next door. 1) Don't run after your wild balls on the next court! They'll get them for you. 2) Don't run behind another court during a...

    I'm having withdrawals..

OP, I'm feelin' ya. Its been raining for like the last 10 days it seems like. I got on the court this past Tuesday, but I'm so depressed sitting inside watching these gray skies and rain. Today, i was going to break down and buy a Wii so atleast I could play a little virtual tennis, but you...

    Stretching Pros & Cons? [Merged]

Thanks Rickson. I don't re-warm up to do my stretches. I'll make an effort to not be in such a rush to leave after my matches, and try to spend atleast a little time stretching while I'm still warm. Thanks for the advice.

    Hitting Partners wanted

You would drive 4 hours to play? Geez man, is there no one up there that plays other than you? I'm working on a site called TennisPulse.org to help people find partners. We've got some NY'ers but I don't think any are in your immediate area. If you want to join (no charges at all), then...

Convincing Parents to Buy Me a New Racquet

Grandma... If that fails, try to see if they will at least match you and you pay 1/2 or 1/3, and they pay the rest. They may just want to see that you want it bad enough to work for it. If they just can't afford it, then give them a break. They may need to worry about serious money issues...

    Hitting Partners in Greensboro, Nc

Jon, I'm in Greensboro too, but not a 4.0. Checkout www.TennisPulse.org to find local tennis partners , and TW Moderators, PLEASE don't ban me for soliciting. I'm answering the question, and this site doesn't sell anything, and doesn't cost anything so I don't know how it could be soliciting...

bad toe jamming in barricade V's

Maybe if they are new you just need to wear them a few more times. I was having toe jamming the first couple matches I played in mine, but since they broke in, no more problems. Also mine are about 1/2 size too big so I keep them tied really tight to keep my heel anchored at that back of the shoe.

Maybe singles isn't so bad after all

I usually play doubles and like it when I'm playing with someone I've played with many times. Once I know my partner well enough to know what to expect, it is enjoyable. I think doubles is more fun from a social POV, but singles is more fun from a competitive POV. Hell, as long as I'm playing...

    Stretching Pros & Cons? [Merged]

I had been really sore after playing for the last few months and I was always stretchinch before playing. So a couple weeks ago I saw this thread and decided to try skipping stretching before playing. I do warm up slowly and basically just try to get warm instead of stretching. I'm happy...

    forehand takeback

My coach/teacher told me to get my racquet back as soon as I see its for my forehand. This feels ridiculous to me. I have the racquest back, running 1/2 way across the court (back the whole time), and then hit the ball. But you know what? My forehands got better. I'm not that extreme with it...

    Sunglasses?

I love my Oakleys. They have blue lenses but not sure if they work differently than the Bolle blue lenses. Oakleys have such clarity and lack of distortion and never seem to slip. It can be a battle to keep the sweat off the lenses, but so far, I'd rather keep cleaning the sweat off rather...

    School racquets suck

That's great!!! LMAO.. My grandfather was born in 1915. He loved tennis as a kid and although poor, and hit by the depression, he had a friend with a tennis court at his house. (A flat grass court I imagine.) They had racquets but no money due to the depression. He says they played until the...

Going to Orlando, FL for a week in April 2008, looking for tennis

this is off topic, but I saw this last reponse about Star Island and I had to say this. After 20 years of not playing tennis, we went on vacation last October and stayed at Star Island in Kissimee, and I played every day while there with my nephew. They had nice hardcourts. This was a turning...

Players who warm up forever - annoying?

I usually try to show up early to warm up my serves on an empty court so I don't drag out the 'official' warm up time. If I do this, I'm fine with 5-10 minutes of baseline warm up. I don't need to warm up volleys or overheads. Even if I can't warm up my serves early, 10 minutes is more than...

    Getting Nervous

I agree that the Inner Game of Tennis is a great book for getting you through the mental issues of winning. Try not to think of this match as being real. Think of where you want to be next year or 4 years from now, playing professional or whatever (dream big). Now this match is just a...

0.8735 plus or minus .0004 ... That is a big difference. I really liked the drawing.

    Best tennis facility features

I like what slice BH said. Do you have places like this in your area? Around here we don't have anything like that but sounds like somewhere I'd go hang out all day and never leave. How much would people pay for courts like that? Monthy fees or per use fees? I don't know that it would fly...
