Would you pick a faster or slower hard court to play on?

Go try out Gunston park if you want a fast outdoor court

    Kinetic chain a myth?

Most people lose because their serves and returns are garbage, their movement is bad and their shot selection is bad. Don’t worry about the kinetic chain, get a good serve. Practice moving up to a short return and hitting that short return to a corner. Get a hitting partner to serve to you...

Righty 2 handed backhand players: do you have callouses under the ring and middle fingers?

Yes, on my left hand. My right hand has callouses under my pinky, ring and middle finger as well as a couple in the palm.

Righty 2 handed backhand players: do you have callouses under the ring and middle fingers?

I get them under my ring finger, not my middle finger. I also get one further down closer to the palm sort of in the middle of my index and middle finger.

(Poll) TTW players: do you guys eat more BEFORE or AFTER a match?

I don’t like eating closer than 2 hours before a match unless it’s extremely light. It may just be in my head but I really feel good in my stomach while I’m playing. I play a big tournament every year where I play a ton of matches. This year I played 1 singles Friday, 2 singles / 3 dubs...

Do I need to go on a losing steak before playing my best tennis?

I’m not sure this is the answer you want but most tennis matches are won by your opponent making more mistakes. Not by you hitting winners.

Heavy balls vs high pace balls

This is another one of those debates over feel vs. real. Heaviness feels the way the OP described and slice can cause the effect Curious mentioned. But really it’s just about the ball bouncing in a place we don’t expect it causing us to hit off center, off balance and to adjust the swing path at...

The big 3 are so intrinsically connected, it is ever possible to put them in separate tiers?

H2h is a bad metric for determining the GOAT because it can’t be applied across “all time.”

The big 3 are so intrinsically connected, it is ever possible to put them in separate tiers?

That’s a fair point, but the OP did ask if it was POSSIBLE for them to be separated into tiers. And I laid out reasonable criteria that would do so.

The big 3 are so intrinsically connected, it is ever possible to put them in separate tiers?

They’ll always be connected but they’re in 3 separate tiers. Djokovic is the best, Nadal is the second best and Federer is the 3rd best. I’m a HUGE fed fan (and not a Nadal nor Djokovic fan) but it’s time to cede that he’s not the goat. Back when he led the slam race and held so many...

I’m a 5.0 and the most fun way to play is the way that wins the match on that day.

    injury free tennis

I get that but let’s say it was some more nefarious reason. I would make up the most probable excuse I could think of. Slipped in the bathroom drawing a bath for my kids is a very strange excuse to make as opposed to I’m an elite athlete who goes hard every day and I hurt myself in practice.

    injury free tennis

Sure, but I don’t see an obvious reason slipped in the bath is better than I hurt myself training.

    injury free tennis

Why make up a story about slipping when you could just say you hurt it training?

    Pirate Ship Tennis

I tried to improve how early I prepped and I felt I had a lot of trouble timing the ball as well as I used to. This wasn’t just a single practice, I was trying to improve my prep for about 6 months and it got way faster. I just simply wasn’t striking the ball as well as measured by having more...

    Pirate Ship Tennis

This is a highly insightful post imo. The balls that look low from the overhead television view are a lot higher than they look. The average rally ball is quite high over the net. But even clean winners that are flat tend to not be clipping the tape. I was just at the Citi Open this past...

    Pirate Ship Tennis

I’ll add a rally to the mix. We each only hit 15 shots but since it’s a competitive point maybe we can count it? .625 shots per second. 22:35 point starts

Playing people who camp out on the corner to hit forehands

There's no other option than hitting to their forehand. Hit a loopy deep ball there to give yourself plenty of margin and time to recover where you need to on the court. A high deep ball will be difficult to really punish. Then hopefully they'll have opened up their backhand.

My Experience at Maine’s Largest Tournament

Yeah like Federer in the 2017 AO. 3 five setters… That’s just so much tennis especially on a surgically repaired knee. Definitely mad respect for what all those guys do in slams.

Put yourself in a competitive setting more often, particularly in practice. It’s just like public speaking, the more you practice the material the more relaxed you feel when you deliver it. More physical stuff: take deep breaths. Have a repeated ritual.

My Experience at Maine’s Largest Tournament

It’s interesting to navigate. You don’t have the option to play full out throughout every match. You have to figure out the moments when you can let off the gas a little bit. You also need to be mindful of when your opponent(s) is losing a bit of steam or hitting a second wind. Prior to 2019 it...

My Experience at Maine’s Largest Tournament

Well things are definitely trending the way you’d like to see them from what I’ve seen. Very few tournaments have a full third set anymore. I’ve also seen more tournaments switching to a week long format. That can be tough to get competition from out of state though which is one of my complaints...

My Experience at Maine’s Largest Tournament

Maine’s largest tennis tournament is a cancer charity event that takes place each year. It has been going on for over 30 years now. This year 153 people signed up across many different divisions. I played men’s singles and doubles. Men’s singles starts Friday and unfortunately I have to play...
