I second that, and I would extend it to all 16x19 patterns in the TC line, including 95 and 97. Best I found was Luxilon 4G Soft, which was good at taming the launch angle, and provided good durability and tension maintenance.

Coming late to respond, but here it is: - if you found the TC97 too launchy and broke strings too fast, do not buy the TC100 as those characteristics will be way worse with that frame - the TC99 is what you should be looking for: more forgiving than a TC97, but with a much more manageable launch...

    The Official Angell Users Club

I’ve now clocked in 3 hours of singles with the TC99 against 3 of my regular hitting partners (+/- 4.5) over the past week, so I think I am in a position to provide my first impressions. To make this as useful as possible, I will compare its main characteristics against the other Angell frames...

What are you looking for in a string? Power or control, low or high launch angle?

Your experience mirrors mine, except that I have also spent time with the TC100. Of the other frames, my preference was the 16x19 pattern in the TC95 and the 18x19 in the TC97. The TC95 18x20 is nice, but in that pattern I think I like the more direct feel of the TC97. I also feel the TC95 (both...

Is there going to be a new TF40 this year?

I'm a bit puzzled at what they're trying to achieve specs wise between the 305g and the 315g version of this frame. According to their website, they both have the same balance at 325mm, which I understand on the 305g to get enough mass in the head for stability and power. But surely the 315g...

Anyone using Yonex strings in Non-Yonex rackets?

Worse. It is a known fact that a player - any player - automatically loses two levels (say, 5.0 to 4.0) if they start using a bag that's not of the same brand as their racquet.

Anyone using Yonex strings in Non-Yonex rackets?

I've used PTP in a number of non Yonex frames (Prince Phantom's, Angell's, Head Prestige) and it's a nice, soft poly with decent spin potential, at the price of an absolutely rubbish tension maintenance. If you were to stick with Yonex strings, Polytour Fire, which is also round, is better in...

    Round alternative to Solinco confidential

Precisely. The OP never mentioned a problem of comfort with Confidential, and Lynx Tour isn't stiffer. His issue is launch angle, and I feel Lynx Tour is better in this respect. Also agree on a softer poly in the crosses as a way to soften the string bed. Yonex Polytour fire works well in that...

    Round alternative to Solinco confidential

I would second Lynx Tour. Very predictable string, a good compromize between an aggressively shaped string like Confidential / Hyper G and a round string. If you really want a round string, try 4G Soft. It's expensive but one of the best around.

I think transitioning from a POG 107 to a 95 or 97 sq.in. frame is going to be a bridge (or two) too far in terms of tolerance on off-center shots. This leaves the TC 99 / 100 / 101 in contention, assuming you want to size down from your current 107 (the TC105 is probably going to be too...

Rumour - Remake Head Prestige Classic (PT10)

You could try Lynx Tour 18. I play the 17 in this frame and like it a lot, so if you're looking for a thinner string, it's a good candidate to try.

I've been playing with the Head Prestige Classic 2.0 for the past 8 months, and the Yonex Vcore 95 for most of 2023, so it's been a while since I've played with an Angell. But the TC99 has really intrigued me, especially that 18x19 pattern, so after a quick call with Paul yesterday, I've taken...

Surely they must add some weight in the head to achieve the desired weight / balance? Because if the lowest available static weight is 300g and the highest is 330g, adding 30g only in the handle would make the balance significantly more headlight than 12 points / 305mm, which is the most...

Rumour - Remake Head Prestige Classic (PT10)

I love the idea of having it in a 98sq.in., or even a 95, for that matter. Just a tad more pop and tolerance, while keeping the feel.

Alternative to Prince phantom 93p 14x18

Not sure you're still searching, but an Angell TC95 16x19 would be a very good alternative to the 93P 14x18. Perhaps get one with a more manageable static weight of 310 or 315g to avoid getting tired too quickly.

Alternative to Prince phantom pro 93p 14x18

The Yonex Vcore 95 with a bit of lead in the hoop would be right up your alley if you liked the 93P 14x18. Launch angle won't be as extreme, but still fairly high, really good pop, comfortable. If you want to stay with Prince, you could have a look at the ATS Textreme Tour in either 95...

The HEAD Prestige is BACK Back

Mate, last time you crashed your brand new car into a pole straight out of the dealership, did they replace it because it was new? And did you feel cheated when they didn't? It's completely unreasonable for you to expect any brand to replace a frame you have smashed on the floor, accidentally...

Head Speed Legend - Djokovic Signature

I think they are going in the right direction with the Prestige, and specifically the Prestige Pro. I just wish they offered it in a 18x19 pattern instead of 18x20, but then the purists would scream and this would be adding yet another model. Unless, of course, they did the rational thing and...

Head Speed Legend - Djokovic Signature

Frankly, we need more models from Head like we need a hole in the head (no pun intended). If anything, they need to reduce their offering, which is confusing and overlapping, and get back to what people expect a Prestige or a Radical to be.

It exists. It's called Head Radical.

Hyper G vs. Hyper G Soft

Same here. A bit more pop for the soft version, at the expense of reduced tension maintenance. I think I prefer the regular version, and I'd just drop a couple of pounds in tension if I wanted a bit more comfort.

Tennis Warehouse playtest: Hyper-G Round 1.25

I haven't seen the data for Hyper G Round, but here is the existing stiffness data for 16L (1.25) strings: - Hyper G: 218 - Hyper G Soft: 172 - YPTP Yellow: 181 This mirrors my experience with those strings, and I've played extensively with all 3. Hyper G is a middle of the road poly for...

Tennis Warehouse playtest: Hyper-G Round 1.25

I have played a lot with Hyper G, both regular and soft, in gauges 17 / 16L / 16 depending on the frame I was using. It is a string I generally like, with the caveat that the launch angle can at time be erratic in open string patterns. I think Hyper G Round is an attempt at providing a string...

    Powerful 18x20 racquets?

If I were you, I'd look at the Solinco Whiteout 18x20, with either a 5 or 10g butt cap module, and lead at 10 / 2 to compensate.

    The Official Angell Users Club

The 18x20 and 16x19 are completely different, so you'd have to qualify your question. In my view, the 18x20 is a pure control frame, whereas the 16x19 is more of a hybrid, having most of the characteristics of a control frame, but with a very open pattern which increases power at the expense of...
