Unpopular opinion: Tsitsipas was never close to win French Open 2021.

Agreed, reminds me to some extent of Sinner-Djokovic 2022. Jannik won the first two sets but was never close to winning that match. Ironically in pure performance he was much closer in 2023 despite losing in straight sets Medvedev-Sinner in the Australian Open 2024 was also quite similar.

Joao Fonseca and Damage Down the Line

You mean his top 128? Well I love stats. Everybody can have his opinions but things like Elo help us to do better. Crazy that Fonseca won 33 against 19 points in the 5-8 rallies, scoring 16 winners to Rublev's 4. Show his ability to dominate baseline rallies, no clear weak points to attack for...

Joao Fonseca and Damage Down the Line

Nice ad hominem at somebody who has been proven right - again. Damage down the line indeed.

Nishesh Basavareddy will be Top 10

High backhand and good forehand potency numbers, he really does a Djokovic impression. Obviously against weaker opposition, but still very impressive. Serve and stamina still lacking.

2025 Australian Open - General Discussion for Men's Singles

Agreed. Fonseca looks especially good in the longer rallies. Great movement and brutal ball-striking with great hands is a deadly combination.

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Possibly but it will be increasingly reflected. FAA is moving very well which is, among other things, key to protect his weak backhand.

    Hubi Hubi Do

Hubi looking good so far this year. As a superb server he should have a longish prime.

How far will Jannik Sinner hard court set streak go?

Indeed. Lots of stupid speculation into the other direction. Could have been one of the greatest seasons of the last decades without that contamination. Of course we will never know, but it is fair to point also that possibility out.

    Tsitsipas needs to do something

Feels like the whole tour has become aware that his backhand can break down and is targeting it mercilessly. Only on slowish clay can he protect it to a very large extent by running around it. Michelsen can resist the inside-out and threaten down-the-line...

The great Tennis Bake Off - visiting the ATP bakery!

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

It might look so at a quick glance but it was the last 52 weeks. I agree that a tall player with a weak backhand should invest more into the bh slice, especially cross-court. Federer could break the sidelines due to a fantastic hand and by taking it so early.

2025 Australian Open - General Discussion for Men's Singles

The conditions also helped Jarry to roll the dice by going for it. We are seeing this type of ‘big boy’ tennis much more than during the dominance of the big3 and for good tactical reasons. Sinner was playing well enough against this tricky and cold opponent.

The Zverev vs the Tsitsipas serve

Overall Zverev's hold percentage gets dragged down a fair bit by his forehand and volleys, while for Tsitispas it is the other way around. As an isolated shot the serve of Sascha is clearly better.

How good can Lleyton Hewitt's son become ?

The most common advantage of being the kid of a first class player ought to be learning great fundamentals from early on, so it is indeed strange. Korda comes to my mind with his almost too beautiful strokes which seem to lack fire.

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Tennis Insights confirms my impression that he was able to run even more than usual around the backhand. Korda can not pressure easily and FAA seems to be in good physical shape!

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Congratulations to FAA, good run and finally the first outdoor title! Korda has those beautiful classic strokes but where is the power? He should have similar biomechanics to Sinner but the weight of shot is so markedly inferior. FAA got a lot of space and time to work his forehand and suffered...

Should players avoid shaking hands with Sinner?

Another thread throwing out a question which could have been answered by reading the ITIA report and some of the links. Kissing beautiful Johaug after she smeared her lips to treat a sunburn could or having more fun with a woman who treated a particular area did contaminate another athlete...

    Monfils the Highlander of tennis

Nice appreciation of a great athlete! Monfils strikes me as the prototype of the modern tennis athlete. Tall & lanky, flexible, one of the greatest movers we have seen and long-lasting.

How many times was Sinner tested in 2024?

The 'system Armstrong' was monumental in scale. Mountains and mountains of evidence supporting this almost incredible level of cheating from multiple angles. Now we have smallest traces of well-documented contamination and some baseless insinuation born on the wings of fantasy.

TAS – Sinner: WADA appeal hearing to be examined on April 16 and 17

As written before, the ITIA decision on the complex case and theWADA appeal have put CAS in a tough spot: 1) In lay terms it is correct to make the athlete fully responsible for his body and what is found there. 2) The recent ability to find two grains in an olympic swimming pool changed the...

Raducanu doesn't spray her swollen insect-bitten hand and ankle due to fear of positive doping test

Shows that many players know now that every medication is a potential source of contamination. If you get treated by somebody, you need would need to have both the opened bottle and ideally an unopened one of the same lot to prove the source without any doubt. Fun times.

How many times was Sinner tested in 2024?

Unable to spot talent or to look up stats and proud of it, thus fantasising about a Berdych ceiling for Sinner. The inability to concede errors of judgment is a basis for further nonsense.

How many times was Sinner tested in 2024?

I think it was in 2020, but his ballstriking stood really out and his backhand's ability to handle the Rafa forehand. How boyish and frail he looked - quite typical for lads with a very late growth spurt. His athleticism has been improving steadily over the years and his big serve change in...

How many times was Sinner tested in 2024?

Shows again how little you know about that particular case. Many have been oblivious how much progress he has been making for most of 2023, ignoring the data and focusing on some outcomes. Ironically Wimbledon 2023 was arguably the best straight set loss of his career at a major with a dominance...
