What factor is most limiting to one's tennis growth/progression?

How much of reading the ball is genetic--just how fast the eyes can react and feed the brain info vs. seeing enough tennis to identify patterns to understand how the ball moves?

What factor is most limiting to one's tennis growth/progression?

I wonder in the futures level if you sees guys like this. They have great strokes but lack the fitness and speed. So they win a lot of free points and hold serve easy but can't break serve to safe their lifes.

What factor is most limiting to one's tennis growth/progression?

I agree like 99% But I still feel if I have the movment of a world class tennis player and the strokes of a 3.0 player, I might be able to play 4.5 or 5.0. Just outlasting so many good rec players. If I have the ball reading ability of 2.0 with 5.0 strokes, I might be stuck being the best 2.0...

What factor is most limiting to one's tennis growth/progression?

I think this is a good summary of the core aspects of tennis. But I still feel you need #2 at a high level in order to be successful with 1 and 3. #2 directly feeds #1 and #3. But getting more fit won't help you read the ball better, having better techinque qon't help you read the ball...

What factor is most limiting to one's tennis growth/progression?

As I'm enjoying the Australian Open and watching these athlete blast serves, blister groundstrokes and cover depths of the court that are off camera, I sometimes wonder would I even be able to see the ball coming at me? It then makes me think, even if I had perfect strokes are their some...

    Wertheim Removed From TC

Oddly I think you are hitting around an odd occurence happening in the world that is reflected in the coverage of tennis. Wertheim gets in trouble for an off screen comment, that he admits was stupid and even making fun of himself. But then we have other commentators joking about Tiafoe being...

    Tsitsipas needs to do something

Tennis at the top is such a tough sport. This might just be the best he can be. Not sure any changes will really make big changes. We've been so fortunate with the Big 3 and now Sinner/Alcaraz, that it just seems guys can keep getting better as the game evovles, some just can't. I think...

    Pro Tennis Alternate Scenarios

Nadal is just a top 100 player with no wins over Federer. Without Nadal, Federer and Djokovic are happy to win 17 and 19 slams respectively. Both retiring earlier. Fed might even have grabbed a CYGS Inconsequential. This was a set up from the start. Maybe gets a few more wins off Nadal as...

The decline of Roddick's FH after 2008 Rome SF

I'll also add that shoulder surgeries can be more of a gamble compared to knees. So they dig in his shoulder, he takes 6-12 weeks off and then is playing his best or he takes 6-12 weeks off and is worse off.

The decline of Roddick's FH after 2008 Rome SF

Interesting how Roddick noted the high balls were hard for him to drive after his shoulder tear. Seems the theme for Gilbert after seeing him handle Gauff is to focus on maximizing the tools they have. Find strategies that emphasize those strenghts. Is this because it is so hard to change pros...

    My Blades are dying...possible replacements?

Got some V8 on sale. Played with it last night. Overall played pretty well with it. Seemed a little more lively in feel compared to my 7, but at the same time seemed a little less powerful. Also, the but cap seems much more flared compared to V6 and V7? Did anyone else notice this with...

    V7/V8 Blade 98 16x19 tie offs

I just got a pair of V*s and was stringing them tonight. Wilson says: Tie off mains at 5H (seems no room/grommet not meant to). For 2 pc tie off crosses at 9H and 6T (I also thought this was a stretch). I wound up using 6H for the mains. 9H for the start tie of crosses and then used 11T for...

Hunting for a new pair of tennis shoes, been about 4 years since I bought a pair.

How much time do you spend on court? My concern with barefoot shoes is running on hard court is different then running barefoot on natural surfaces. Also proper grip to the court.

Maya Joint forfeits $210,000 US Open Prize Money in order to stay eligible for USA College

I know who this lady is. Don't really know any other US Gymnasts until the olympics are on, Then forget who they are afterwards. Marketing and image is what sells.

What would Federer play like today if he grew up alongside Sinnercaraz?

It would be a fun project to watch those 651 matches!

What can PTPA do useful in 2025 ?

Look at all the hype Kyrgios and Djoker brought to doubles this past week. We see clips poppin up all about ti. Yet, their can be some monster doubles matches that would never pop up on a media feed because it is just doubles players in the line-up. How many of us can name the top ten...

Maya Joint forfeits $210,000 US Open Prize Money in order to stay eligible for USA College

US colleges typically run 20K-90K a year (tuition, board, food, etc.). But, if she is on the tennis team of a D1 school she would probably get a full scholarship. So if she goes to a prestigious school 4 years at a good D1 could be worth around $240K. Not sure about #2. my guess is that if...

What would Federer play like today if he grew up alongside Sinnercaraz?

I wonder how that percentage increases or decreases over the course of his career. I felt that when he was dominating early in his career he was hitting a lot of winners off his backhand drive. Still using the slice to draw guys in, but then magnificent passes from either his FH or BH. As he...

What can PTPA do useful in 2025 ?

You would think so. But it seems most attempts to promote doubles has failed. Even in the hayday of the Bryan Brothers, they often played to almost empty stadiums. It's so weird it doesn't draw more viewers since most people play dubs over singles.

What can PTPA do useful in 2025 ?

The reality is tennis is very top heavy in regard to players income. It is hard to surive outside the top 100 as a singles player. Not even sure how doubles players make a living. As independent contractors, they get a lot of freedom of what they choose to do, but don't get any of the benefits...

Maya Joint forfeits $210,000 US Open Prize Money in order to stay eligible for USA College

Ironically, if the NCAA allowed indvidual sports to earn money outside of the college matches, it might really bolster the level of tennis at the college level. I wonder how many pros in the 200-400's would play college and pro tennis. Maybe even some of the younger players up and comping...

At the slam level, who do you think between Federer, Nadal and Djokovic has achieved less than they could have?

You could argue that you can control injuries. Maybe Fed and Djokovic used training regiments that reduced injury risk, played a schedule to maximize recovery and made strategic decisions on court when to go for broke and when to take it easy. You could argue Nadal chose a style that was hard...

What would Federer play like today if he grew up alongside Sinnercaraz?

When I watch Fed highlights I'm always amazed how much he was able to hug the baseline. Always found a way to stay close to it when playing groundies and then finding ways to move in ASAP. I wonder if he grew up now would he be like everyone else and stand 15 feet back or would he be...

Czech Nikola Bartunkova returns to tennis after 6 months ban for accidentally consuming trimetazidine

When you say thresholds do you mean making the tests less sensitive so low levels don't return a positive test? If we side with the athletes, they are all getting popped by contaminants, so no intent of misuse and no real benefits to the sport, so a higher threshold to consider one doping makes...

Wimbledon winner Purcell suspended for anti-doping violation

IV infusions are included on the Prohibited List mainly because some athletes could use this Prohibited Method to: a) enhance their performance by increasing plasma volume levels; b) mask the use of a Prohibited Substance; c) distort the values of their Athlete Biological Passport. Infusions or...

Czech Nikola Bartunkova returns to tennis after 6 months ban for accidentally consuming trimetazidine

I know that the athletes with more access to attorneys (money), can work quicker with the tribunal to prove their innocence. I think there is a 10 day window that after they are notified they can plead their case. In the past for players with less resources it has been difficult to get the...

Czech Nikola Bartunkova returns to tennis after 6 months ban for accidentally consuming trimetazidine

My guess if all supplements were banned substances for athletes, all of a sudden star player X who pops positive for zambonium will have eaten contaminated strawberries. "It was found that the strawberries she ate, although organically farmed, were next to a pharamceutical company that was...

School suggestions for academics w good club programs, possibly D3 team

I agree with others that if his primary goal is academics that is what should be his main drive in picking his school. But, I also think if he was involved in Club Tennis or a easy going D3 school, the structure and support provided by a team might be a great way to balance out academics and...
