Thought you guys might be interested...

My daughter's coach, Tom Allsopp (who's been mentioned by other members here before on his YouTube video's, TPA Tennis) is taking one of his students, Nitzan Ricklis across the country in a van playing tourneys and training as they go from CA to Vermont. Nitzan is a 13 utr and plays #1 at USF...

    Tennis Strategy...little help

Hey All: There is a tennis strategy that was written on here before, but I forgot what it was called. Basically, you go cross court until you get a short ball, when you get the short ball, you go straight (mainly down the line). There's more to it and everything, but does anyone remember the...

    How to Spot Talent?

How could you say that when looking at someone like Coco Gauff? You honestly think tennis is a later specialization sport? Look at tennisrecruiting.net. The top girls that are seniors were the top kids as freshman....and those same girls were the top kids in 6th grade. It's a trip. Top rankings...

    U12 U14.. utr ratings

It's very accurate, even for younger players. The only real inaccuracy I see is when I younger player (talking 10-11ish), that isn't big enough to handle pace of older players, only plays younger plays and beats younger (and inferior) players like a drum, then it's inflated.

    How to Spot Talent?

I know it. Also, I am talking about top level kids, no rec players or high school players. Sorry Ash, it's results. In tennis, results matter, 100%. My kid is a top ranked player and pretty much has been since they were 8. It's all the same kids. Some have burned out, but the ones that are...

    Mental Performance Training

Yep, found a guy who was number 1 in the world at doubles and we start training with him next month. About the same cost as the mental coach. Sorry for not being detailed, just I have seen things get a little out of hand here.

    Mental Performance Training

My kids mechanics suck with anything continental, except serve. Terrible volleys, slice, drop shot, defensive lob, etc. They work hours and hours on pattern hitting, etc. My kid is top 10 in section and highly ranked nationally, but could be so much better if they could mix it up. According to...

    Mental Performance Training

Oh boy, this is the best thing I have read all day. Likely, because it confirms in my belief. I am having issues with my kids coach, and he blames the mental part and I point to the technical part. Basically, my kids continental grip (except serve) needs work along with my kids consistency. The...

    Junior Tennis on a budget...

Oh, I agree, but I can spend half of what I am spending and all of your points would remain the same. I played in college and my kids are on track to as well. This whole thing is hard and expensive. You can’t just do lessons, sometimes clinics are a waste of time and money, and you have to make...

    Junior Tennis on a budget...

I spend too much $ for my kids and tennis. They are really good, but aint going pro. The whole journey is fun, but its an expensive hobby.

    Junior Summer Tennis Camp

Tompkins Tennis at Pebble Beach is a good one, IMO. Did you check with JMG in Sacto? They have a bunch of the top players. Advantage in Irvine as well? I think Florida might be a waste.

Why do Juniors tend to have a one-dimensional game?

Just got back from Tucson where my kid played at Winter Nationals and I was pretty impressed with the level of play there. The smaller boys are pretty darn crafty and the larger ones can really pound it. With girls, the majority is baseline play, no doubt. Someone mentioned the USTA and their...

Junior Tournaments/Match play effect vs Technical development

Every kid is different, but I do feel that have some sort of tournament experience is beneficial. My daughter is starting to come into her own in the (12-14) range and we are doing the national tournament route, but not as intense as others. She is starting to take it to the next level while...

Parents who waste untold thousands on coaching

I apologize, I do not mean to be aggressive nor I am thinking that I am being aggressive in my posting. But, to my point: Cori Gauff's UTR is 12.06 Whitney Osuigwe's UTR is 12.30 No one is debating that these girls are freaking awesome, the UTR confirms that.

Yeah, Claire Liu went on to win the Wimbledon Juniors and became the number 1 junior in the world.

Parents who waste untold thousands on coaching

C'mon man. So ridiculous. Your girl would only destroy Lee if she had a 12 UTR, which she obviously doesn't. The great thing about the UTR is that it doesn't ********. No one is training differently, say NCAA vs. Pro. No one. Everyone trains to be a pro then the cards will fall into place...

Volynets is tiny. Bad comp. Also, your girl isn't beating Lee.

Dude, this is high level, Division 1 female tennis. The winner has a 10.68 UTR, as a Soph in High School.

    One handed backhand for juniors...

Yeah, this Shapovalov video is insane. He is basically the same age, but looks like an adult racket (I do agree with you on the racket part).

    One handed backhand for juniors...

Sorry, I'm not debating the one vs. the two. He wants to play with one. Which is the best way to implement it?

    One handed backhand for juniors...

Sorry, thought I posted this. For example, Pete Sampras (along with myself and thousands of others) started with a 2 and then as they matured went to a 1.

Yes, I don't want to debate it, just if you had to teach it, what would it be.

    One handed backhand for juniors...

I would like to crowd source my dilemma here. So, I have an 8 year old boy that is a very talented tennis player (not to brag, just point out that he can handle a lot) who is already playing full court, yellow ball, and plays 2 out of 3 sets, tiebreakers, everything. His UTR is a low 4. I'm...

    UTR what’s yours?

Yeah, I don't see anyone playing cautious because of their UTR. In fact, I've seen more kids (especially the usual cautious ones) hit harder and go for winners. They realized that their ranking might be high, but their UTR wasn't, so they stepped up their game. I think it's great, but then...

    UTR what’s yours?

I agree. I think it's great, especially to show progress of the kids. Also, you very rarely see huge upsets with UTR, it's very, very accurate. It is way better than rankings, it totally (mostly) eliminates the need to chase points, which is awesome. I wasn't a believer at first, now I think...

    UTR what’s yours?

It's based on everything, 8 game pro-sets and shortened 6 game pro sets. Every Game counts.

    UTR what’s yours?

    Males: UTR 8.0-9.4 = 4.5 NTRP UTR 9.5-10.9 = 5.0 NTRP UTR 11 above = 5.5+ Opens Females: UTR 6.6-7.4 = 4.5 NTRP UTR 7.5-8.9 = 5.0 NTRP UTR 9 above = 5.5+ Opens

    How to Spot Talent?

Yes, the thing that was broken is the kid didn't have TALENT.

    How to Spot Talent?

Gotta disagree with this one. I used to think this, but not any more. You can work 5 hours a day, home school your kid, have him/her be totally into it, and get the best instruction around and your kid could still suck. I've seen it.
