    The gut/poly thread

I tried VS 1.30 mains, PTS 1.25 crosses, 55m/50x tension. Yonex Percept 100 (16x19). It was toast after about 8 hours. Since then I’ve switched to full bed Rexis Speed 1.25 and have been really happy with it, I’ve tried a few other multis and nothing else has given me the same mix of comfort and...

    The gut/poly thread

If I was stringing myself I probably would have tried it. My stringer didn’t want to do it and I didn’t push, I just switched to a multi with poly fibers and it seems to be a better compromise for me.

    Adidas Cybersonic

Got my Cybersonics and played a match in them yesterday. I would say they run very slightly small to size, I am normally a 10.5 in Nike/Asics and also went with 10.5 in these. I would say fit is something like 1/4 size smaller than my old Speed FF2's. They are fairly snug with my regular Thorlo...

    Adidas Cybersonic

I have a pair of these arriving today, seems like they'll work well for my narrow foot. The design ticks all the right boxes for me, except for the goofy external shank wrapping around the heel. But we'll see.

Suggestions for Multi Tensions (Many kinds of multifilaments)

It's fine, personally I like to start at 50lbs and go from there. Finding that with modern racquets I'm preferring lower tensions than I used to, even with multis.

How many of us use an insert?

The regular old Dr. Scholl's sport insoles totally solved my blister issues in my last pair of Asics. The shoes were already about halfway through their life, so I didn't want to spend a lot. For <$20 it totally transformed them. Trying out the Move Game Day Pros in my next pair of shoes, I...

    Diadora B.Icon 2

Not totally sure, I sent in for a return for TW store credit. They’ve got these in stock at my local big box sporting store, I will probably try on the next size up with Thorlos and see how they feel. I do really like the way the shoes feel in general, I could just tell I was gonna have issues...

    Diadora B.Icon 2

Ok, need to retract my earlier comment on fit. I tried on again this evening with my usual Thorlos and the fit is way too tight in the toes, gonna cause issues for sure. I usually play in the evenings, definitely a bad idea to try on shoes in the morning! Looks like 1/2 size up would be needed...

Scooped up a pair of these in the blue/black/yellow colorway as a replacement for my ASICS Speed FF2’s. Fit seems very similar, same size as the Speed FF2’s and a similar overall width. I have narrow feet and these are a good match, they would not be good if you are even a little above medium...

    The gut/poly thread

I tried a variety of hybrid setups last summer, at the time I was mostly using Yonex PTP and mixing with Dynawire, Babolat and Wilson Syn Guts, X1 Biphase, Multifeel, Velocity. All the hybrids were in the 50-54 pound range, with the poly 2-3lbs lower than the syngut/multi. Since then I’ve been...

How does adding 2 g of weight total at 3&9 affect a racquet's swing weight and how does 2g at 12 affect swing weight?

I find the change in feel with lead at 3/9 to be more drastic than lead at 12. Lead at 12 just makes the racquet feel heavier in general and gives the sensation of more power, especially on serve. It feels like the same racquet, just beefed up. Lead at 9/3 changes the entire feel of the racquet...

    The gut/poly thread

Yonex Percept 100, 55m/50x. Haven’t tried any other gut/poly hybrids. I tried a few poly/syngut and poly/multi hybrids last year, but otherwise I’ve mainly played full poly setups. Since my arm has been bugging me I switched to Rexis Speed, which has worked out really well so far.

    The gut/poly thread

I'm only playing 1-2X per week and rotating between racquets, so it takes a while to get some real playtime on each string job. I just hit about 8 hours of play on my VS / Poly Tour Strike hybrid, and it's cooked. Still plays fine, good spin and power. But, it's really uncomfortably firm. Arm...

    Tennis Warehouse Playtest - Gamma Sapphire 1.23 & 1.28

Which Gauge did you receive? 1.28mm Tension(s) used for playtest 48lbs, same in mains/crosses. Strung professionally at the shop I typically use, by the same guy as usual. Regular string setup Lynx Tour 17 at 48lbs, although recently I've been experimenting with gut/poly. My other racquet...

2023 Yonex VCore Pro Racquets / 2024 Percept Racquets

I didn't care for lead at 3/9 on my Percept at all, I felt like it seriously reduced the maneuverability. I was always too slow to square up the racquet, especially on quick volleys. Lead at 12 worked great to adjust the overall feel and add more pop to serves.

How to Find Best String and Tension in Ten Restrings

I'm an all-court player, used to be more of an aggressive serve & volley style but lately sitting back at the baseline more than I should. After about a year back in the game, I am still building the confidence to come in to the net as aggressively/often as I should. Surprising to hear that you...

How to Find Best String and Tension in Ten Restrings

I would start with a relatively neutral, round poly and try tensions with bigger gaps. You may be surprised to see which direction you want to go. I see most people are stringing polys in the 45-50lb range nowadays (myself included) and trending lower. Before you start hybriding, you might want...

    Tennis Warehouse Playtest - Gamma Sapphire 1.23 & 1.28

I’ve got about 4hrs total on my Sapphire 1.28 and feel like it might already be cooked. The feel is still ok, somewhat firm, I don’t get the pocketing sensation that some have stated. But not uncomfortable. However, my ball control is all over the place. Tonight I felt like I needed to take...

2023 Yonex VCore Pro Racquets / 2024 Percept Racquets

They are very close. I found the regular 100 to have a tiny bit more spin and launch. But it could have even been differences in the demo string job. I hit the regular 100 a little better on groundstrokes the day I demoed, so I bought it and added a little weight. Done.

Is 54 lbs Too Tight for Natural Gut?

My normal poly tension is 48lbs, switching to gut/poly hybrid I went 55/50 and the overall stringbed stiffness is similar on the first few plays.

    Poly Tour Drive?

I tried it as a hybrid with PTP in the crosses. I felt like it played OK, decent spin but less than I was expecting for how sharp the string feels. It played quite firm and after the first 4-5 hours started to get firmer and firmer. I cut it out somewhere around hour 6-7 because it was getting...

2023 Yonex VCore Pro Racquets / 2024 Percept Racquets

Prime Tour is my go-to OG, the green matches the Percept fairly well but I prefer how the grey looks. It starts off tacky but the tackiness wears off after about 30 min of hitting, and then it’s more of a grippy absorbent feel. As a former Tourna Grip guy I love it because it reminds me a bit...

    Yonex Power Cushion Eclipsion 5

I'm interested in these as an alternative to the Asics Speed FF series. Looking for something with a tiny bit more stability but still relatively fast and narrow to medium width. These might fit the bill. Surprised to see no real reviews or videos out there yet.

Head Lynx Tour for really advanced teenager

I think "more power" and "more spin" are probably contradictory in this case. Most strings that significantly increase spin are going to be the same or even lower-powered. Most strings that add significant power are going to decrease spin over full-bed Lynx Tour. I think Lynx Tour is a typical...

Head Lynx Tour for really advanced teenager

Depends on why you want to hybrid. What needs to be improved over full-bed Lynx Tour?

    Tennis Warehouse Playtest - Gamma Sapphire 1.23 & 1.28

Interesting first time out with the Sapphire 1.28. I find that most poly strings have an unpleasant break-in period for the first hour or two. This was the most extreme example I've encountered; it was one of the harshest strings I've played with for the first 30 minutes, especially if I missed...

    Tennis Warehouse Playtest - Gamma Sapphire 1.23 & 1.28

Got my Sapphire 16/1.28 strung at 48lbs in my Percept 100, looks pretty good! Feels quite slick, easy to straighten out. Plan to hit with it tomorrow.

    Tennis Warehouse Playtest - Gamma Sapphire 1.23 & 1.28

Happy to be a part of the playtest! I definitely don't feel great about throwing a bunch of plastic string in the garbage every few weeks. Will be interesting to see how it plays, I have also been playing mostly shaped polys and wondering if switching back to round will give me some more...

‘No hit’ zone in middle - avoid this target in singles

This is great advice and something I've been focusing on lately. It's very true that most rallies at my level (3.5-4.0) are going middle-middle. Getting the opponent on the run is way more likely to lead to errors or at least short balls, even if I don't put a lot of pace on them. My first...
