Does the "up together"(as opposed to "delayed arm") leads to less erratic tosses and better extension, but trades power?

I've helped hundreds of players by getting them to focus on 2 simple aspects of their service toss ... ... ... FIRST ... is to start with the tossing hand down just above thigh level ... and to come UP ONLY to release ... NOT down and then changing direction upward ... ... ... and SECOND ...

Back Care - One or Two Handed Backhand

The non-dominant arm coming around on a 2HBH forces the spine into more twisted positions ... whereas a good 1HBH keeps the spine more straight by design. ~ MG

    Lost my forehand suddenly

Just keep in mind that even though your forehand backswing is smaller or more compact ... you still need your racket handle butt cap fully aimed at the right net post at the start of the forward swing. The backswing being smaller gives you less natural "whip" lag ... so you'll have to doing it...

    High School Tennis-Late Starter

Play each ball for THAT ball ... not for the score ... and not for your dad. Focus on your process only ... which hopefully your coach has given you a good techincal understanding of. Get as many matches as you can with the best players ... and with lesser players work mostly on your...

Building a tennis serve with a coach

On your serve ... the main components look pretty good. There's just a bit of jerky motion in the toss and an unconscious shoulder orientation and rotation (opening of the body). Start on the duece side ... line up at ready position shoulder-to-shoulder-to-target ... and you will work on...

Do I really have to hit with topspin?

Your "default" groundstrokes should be topspin ... flat and slice groundstrokes being situational, when necessary. If your topspin strokes are unreliable, you should take a few lessons from an eagle-eyed pro. All the YouTube "instruction" in the world won't identify your specific issues ... and...

    Is serve a throwing motion?

Serving and throwing are not even close to the same thing. The main difference being ... when throwing, the elbow goes mainly AROUND the shoulder ... and when serving, the elbow goes mainly OVER the shoulder. ~ MG

Looking for some advice on my backhand once again

On your 1HBH ... ... ... The first thing I notice when you are facing the camera ... is that you are waiting with a backhand grip on consecutive balls ... with no true back-to-center ready position or grip change. Did a pro teach you this ... or do you just not find it that important to...

Best way to learn tennis on my own?

Sorry ... it doesn't really work like that ... as in through smartly structured (or even generally "intelligent") remote programs for developing good tennis technique. The free stuff is just too all over the place ... and the subscription stuff doesn't take into account YOUR UNIQUE needs. While...

    How do I motivate myself?

Falling apart ... losing motivation ... or pumping yourself up ... are all normal emotion-based responses to whatever the mind is concerned about ... and that is ... for most players ... the "score" ... which is basically just a quantification of past (and future) events. The problem ... is that...

Semiwestern 1HBH grip helped with contact point, and now I want to keep it.

The only players with 1HBH's that might "appear" to benefit from a SW grip ... are those who typically position too close to the line of the approaching ball ... don't swing (supinate) out at a diagonal across that line ... instead leading with their elbows as they swing across their bodies ...

Best sport to help with tennis, besides tennis.

It depends on how good you might want to get ... and work towards. Drill recovering back to center

    Drill recovering back to center

    Drill recovering back to center

    Adding pace to my forehand

Even without seeing you hit ... I suspect you are not taking the same backswing when you have to move ... versus when you have "sweet spot" balls coming at you. The two most common issues being not taking the racquet head far enough back ... or down low enough. Next time you practice hitting...

Topspin One handed backhand forward swing

What I really don't like about these shadow swings ... is that your racquet head doesn't reach its low point until half way through the forward swing ... when it reaches your front thigh. This is WAY too late to get any real low-to-high topspin. The lowering of the front shoulder actually...
