Help retiring from Vcore 95 2023

Yeah. I put 2 grams at 12 and it felt way better. At first I tried it at 10 and 2 (ish) because of the head shape but it seemed to throw it totally off and felt weird. After putting it at 12, the balance felt better and it gave it a bit more incremental free power.

Costco needs to stop selling Penn Championship balls.

I hate the Costco Penn's but I've learned to live with them because everyone buys them. They go dead in 1-2 sessions. They're slowed and don't bounce as high. Sometimes I get used to half dead balls because this is what people hit with. And then I'll play a match with someone who'll use real...

Costco needs to stop selling Penn Championship balls.

How much do they sell for? I wish our Costco's (US) sold the Wilson USO's!

    New bag recommendation

Just pulled the trigger on a ADV Pro v3. They're pricey but my friend has one and I really like how everything is organized (cushioned and insulated racket pockets, shoe pocket, lots of small pockets to store stuff from overgrips to phone/keys, lined pocket for sunglasses, separate compartments...

Help retiring from Vcore 95 2023

The VC95 feels good on serves because I can really whip it through the air. It doesn't feel as stable on volleys like my other rackets. I've demoed the TF40 315 and I fell in love with it. Agreed, super whippy. But it didn't have enough heft and stability on heavy returns so definitely felt like...

Weiss CANNON Blue Rock N Power

46/44 in my Pure Strike VS. I typically string 48-50 in my mains. But I figured it was so stiff that I should go lower so that I wouldn't kill my arm. Yeah, I always try new sets in full bed just to get a feel but I think it would be better as a hybrid to balance out the stiffness and spin with...

Laver Cup to San Francisco in '25

Why is it the worst place? The bay area probably has the biggest tennis community except for LA. And LA has Indian Springs. It is also home to the biggest tech companies in the world and has some very wealthy communities that play tennis. This matters if you want to want to have some wealthy...

Weiss CANNON Blue Rock N Power

Tried Rock'n Power for the first time. When I opened the package, I thought it was some off brand replacement from China because the strings felt so plasticky it must've come from some toy factory. The edges were so sharp I thought I'd cut my fingers. And It was so thick, I had a hard time...

Laver Cup to San Francisco in '25

lavercup.com isn't selling tickets for San Francisco but if you go to places like Stubhub you can see a bunch of tickets already on sale. Are these legit tickets? How did these people already buy tickets?

USTA is moving the needle in the wrong direction

The fact is that the US Open is hitting record attendance despite prices. This is inflation at work. It's like snowboarding on the West Coast insane prices and busiest its ever been.

    Tecnifibre TF40 315

Interesting that they went a bit more adventurous on the aesthetic, though I'm not sure I prefer it to the red/white/blue from before.

To confirm, you played with the 300g version not the 320g?

    Wilson x RF Aug 8, 2024

I agree that Wilson has marketed RF really well. But they've also taken on a pretty ambitious goal with spinning off the RF brand separately like how Nike did it with Jordan. I'm no marketer, but I imagine there's some risk is generating a new brand like this. So far it seems like they've done...

    Wilson x RF Aug 8, 2024

The guy just had great technique though. Hitting T and corner on serves. Clean put-aways. This racket isn't going to make people suddenly have great technique.

What makes a rackets swing "through" more?

Specs only tell you part of the story. What they don't tell you about is racket construction. Look at the head of a Yonex racket vs a Babolat vs the various Wilson rackets. If you look at the beam width, they wary. Then look at the beam thickness, they also highly vary. Thin beam rackets...

Quality of all balls went down during covid

If you listen to the podcast, they basically said that tennis balls don't generate a lot of profit. It could be the case that raw costs have gone up with inflation and in order to keep costs down they're taking measures.

Quality of all balls went down during covid

I was listening to the TennisNerd's podcast episode from today where he has someone from Head who's in charge of their balls. It's a good deep dive into balls, the different quality balls, recommended balls to use based on players demand and a breakdown on what can make balls different. One...

Official Babolat Strike VS 2022 thread

Got one new off of another site. Easier to use than my Vcore 95 but not as easy as my Gravity or Speed MP (100 sq in). Although spec-ed as headlight, it’s not as whippy as I’d expect. Instead, it really has some boom to it if you hit it true — hitting the sweet spot will be obvious. It has some...

Who is in better form and favourite? Golden boy Sinner or Carlos?

Sinner has been playing the most consistent and has been maintaining top form. Alcaraz is looking better than he was previously but his performance can be either up or down. If Alcaraz plays in top form, I see it coming down to a few key points and a game here or there being the difference...

Apparently he was spotted watching Stanford compete yesterday. I guess the rumors of him being in the Bay Area were true.

Laver Cup to San Francisco in '25

Spot on. It has its issues. But it’s still one of the most beautiful places to visit and live. And being a sports fan in general, visitors from nearby states often choose it as a destination to travel to and make a long weekend out of it.

Laver Cup to San Francisco in '25

SoCal people will definitely fly up. Also anywhere in the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, Vancouver) and other western states are an easy flight. People will make a trip to SF out of it.

This. Bay Area is a tennis dessert as far as big tourneys go.

Netflix loses future viewer of the "Netflix Slam"

It was hyped a bunch by Netflix so I guess I just expected much more excitement. But like any game of no consequence, it wasn’t as dramatic as the real thing. With that said, I’m all for more tennis, more coverage and growing of the sport especially in the US. I would rather they have done it...

    Ultimate string of choice !

Just tried Razor Code Blue 1.25 at 48 lbs and definitely enjoying that crisp, lively feel. I've only hit with it once with my machine so I need to see how it does in match play.

Beginner stringer question: Strings audibly moving on first hit

I'm a relative beginner stringer. I've done about 3-4 string jobs on my own rackets now. One thing I've noticed is that after I string them and I take them out for the first hit, I can hear the strings crackling as if they're adjusting into place. With my last string job, my clamp on the crosses...

Netflix loses future viewer of the "Netflix Slam"

I was really excited about it but honestly found it pretty boring. Love both players but it just looked like they were practicing until the tiebreaker. Nadal hit one shot that was amazing. Also there were no stakes. Clearly both were playing super conservatively to not get injured and stay 100%...

Rublev appeals his DQ and has his points and prize money reinstated

This is pro sports not an IT tech job. Comparing it to a workplace is dumb and arbitrary. Why not compare it to a church or a funeral? See other pro sports where adrenaline is high, calls are are made and there is more and more sophisticated technology and a clear set of rules to govern the game...
