    The dreaded EOY Rating thread

I trust the computer to put me at a competitive level and not let my ego put me in a higher level where I may bore my opponents.

    Wait, people actually appeal UP?

    Official 2022 ratings thread.

I am guessing this is answered somewhere, but will 2020 matches be included in the 2021 NTRP rankings? I am assuming so but IDK how that works with no advancement, etc. It won't affect me too much but it would be better without.

    Official 2022 ratings thread.

I have a terrible serve and, in Wisconsin especially, going outside means the big servers have to deal with sun, wind, cars, etc., so it equalizes it vs. indoors where they can drop bombs. Also, the indoor courts at most of the clubs need to be resurfaced and so they play a bit glassy and it...

Is it tomorrow or tonight at 8:30 PM? I see someone counting down the hours which, by my math, would appear to be 20:30 CT today but we are being told tomorrow.

I agree with @Moveforwardalways that if TR isn't trying to mimic NTRP, then that's fine and in some ways very valid. As a sometimes-captain, it would be valuable to know that a player like me is a 3.7 in mixed, 3.3-3.4 at 4.0 and 3.8-3.9 at 8.5 Combo. I obviously have strengths and Tennis...

    Official 2022 ratings thread.

A few random thoughts after reading this: 1. DQ'ing after an Appeal ("A") rating is extremely rare. A true self-rate starts out at 0.0 and generates a full dynamic rating each match. An Appealed player ("A") comes in with a weighted dynamic so it's harder to get out of range. The LLC/DLC...

Any experience with roster change after match has started? (USTA)

Interesting. Your local rules explicitly allow something our local rules explicitly prohibit. Our local rules are the most strict I've seen (injury not even a reason to allow change) and yours are the most lenient. I would say, in general, I agree with the National rules which allow the...

Any experience with roster change after match has started? (USTA)

I'll spare details, but I am not at all trusting of Team A Captain and even if this tragedy happened, I am comfortable my humanity is strong. My experience with sudden tragedies happening right at critical junctures is to be dubious. The match is 2-2, a much stronger player who was not...

Any experience with roster change after match has started? (USTA)

Respectfully disagree. I don't think captains should be allowed to use rain or the threat of rain to be able to change rosters, especially after a match has started and when they do it to substitute a stronger player in when it's 2-2. This is not World Team Tennis. You win or lose with who is...

Any experience with roster change after match has started? (USTA)

As I read the local rule above, assuming that Local rules trump Sectional/National when there is the deferral like our Section did, then even an injury would be precluded in our local rules.

Any experience with roster change after match has started? (USTA)

I am USTAMidwest and our rules are here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/ustaassets/assets/615/15/8_rules_-_2017_midwest_rules.pdf The best I found find in it was this section, which allows substitutions as the local league authorizes (see bold below). That would appear to me the same wording as...

Any experience with roster change after match has started? (USTA)

Here's the scenario: Team A playing Team B on Wed. 7/3 in an 18+ 4.0 Men's match in an outdoor league. There's rain in forecast late at night but Team A says looks like rain let's exchange rosters and do post-plays. Given that it's night before holiday, Team B agrees. I am Team C and I...

How Does Your Section Handle Self-Rates Who Create New Accounts?

To answer the questions: 1. His singles results are wins for the loss of 2-4 games against higher end 4.0 players but his doubles results are almost all match TB's. His singles results were against the better teams but I can't impugn anything nefarious. There is clearly a disparity between...

How Does Your Section Handle Self-Rates Who Create New Accounts?

Summary: A player in our local 18+ 4.0 Men's League last held a 5.0B rating 12 years ago. This summer he registered for a 4.0 team by creating a new account and rating solely off the chart. The rules state if you had a prior rating you have to rate at that and appeal. He didn't. On his...

Bizarre Foot Fault Ending to District/State Championship Match

I'm the OP. The very lovely Angela is correct, there were a lot of refs on this court. The ref for that bank was out there a lot and then the head ref did come out in the TB. IIR, and I could be wrong, at the time the foot fault was called by the head ref there may have actually been two refs...

Dealing with loss of speed ??

I had to have my hip replaced at 43 last year. Gulp and prior to that, speed was a huge part of my game. I don't know your age, but for me the saving grace as I returned back to tennis was the 40+ league because speed wasn't as important to me in that league as the 18+ ones. I also learned...

**Unofficial Official 2016 Year End Rating Thread**

I do like to win but I don't have the strokes or power to win at 4.5. I compete well at 4.0 because I'm mentally tough and just don't miss. At 4.5 the guys can hit a lot more clean winners which negates the strengths of my game: mental consistency and ball in the court consistency. And I...

**Unofficial Official 2016 Year End Rating Thread**

I am hoping to stay the same. I had an average 4.0 season in my closest local league but I played near work in a different city and went undefeated in their local league. I lost at state (districts) one badly and one close. Made it to ******* Sectionals and went 3-1 there and 3 of the players...

Anyone lose a lot of weight and have their game go down the toilet?

I do Pilates 5x per week, yoga 2x per week and run 35 miles per week, in addition to tennis and volleyball leagues. I'm definitely fit. I just wonder if maybe I'm doing too much and am fatigued during tennis -- but it doesn't feel that way.

Anyone lose a lot of weight and have their game go down the toilet?

So in the last 18 months I've gone from 300# to about 165#. I used to be a solid 4.0, hovering on the edge of 4.5. I went .500 at 4.5 local leagues in 2012 and went undefeated at 4.0, including a combined 6-0 at Districts and Sectionals (Mid-West). I am now faster, fitter and have much more...

Post the most absurd 2010 NTRP rating examples - no names!

We have a guy in our local leagues who went 1-23 as a 4.0 based upon his Mixed rating from last year. This year he got a 4.0 C rating and was denied his appeal. The only match he won was in a 6.5 Mixed Combo league with a 2.5 partner, and that match didn't even count towards his rating. I have...

Do tri-level league matches count towards your rating?

Tri-level singles and same-sex doubles matches count towards DTRP and NTRP in our Section but the Benchmarking rules don't apply. Here's a player in my area who only played Tri-level matches and has a 2010 NTRP Rating as a result...

Is there really a 6 or more matches appeal auto-deny rule?

Of the only two players in my ~1,300 rated member area that won an appeal one was a guy who played 6 mixed matches (new member) and the other was a woman who played 3 women's matches. My belief is, strongly, that the 6 match limit is definitely still being enforced, although the computer has...

    "C" should be a "B"

The B player who "won" his appeal yesterday from 4.5B down to 4.0A is back at 4.5B today. It appears the correction went through. For those who knew of B's that appealed down and won, did you see that in your area as well?

    2010 Ratings: What's The Damage?

I think Elena Dementieva's lack of a grand slam title speaks volumes about the importance of at least a decent serve. If you don't even see the returns because they are blasting them past you at 4.0, it is going to be tough to hold, and hence win, at 4.5. I would love to see Fed dink his...

    "C" should be a "B"

As per the other thread, the USTA has identified an issue with certain Benchmark rating appeals being successful. They are going to correct the error and those erroneously granted appeals are going to be reversed. It is going to be sticky.
