New TW Playtest Format - Check out our new review of the Wilson Pro Staff Six.One 95 v14!

I've been playing with the six.one 95 16x18 (purchased new in 2015), and I think I finally need to switch. Bummed that this only comes in an 18x20, and not a more open string pattern.

Fitness programs as you get older

Yea - this is my challenge. Last couple years, I've felt like I'm struggling to find a balance between avoiding overtraining (which, in hindsight, I think I did the majority of youth and college career), but still training enough to avoid discomfort/injury. Fortunately, other than a freak...

Fitness programs as you get older

That's fair - To clarify I'm looking for ways to decrease recovery time so I can play tennis more often and still avoid injury. 10 years ago I could hit 3x per week and lift 3x per week no problem. Now, I can lift 3x per week and do cardio on my off days, but if I play tennis (instead of...

Fitness programs as you get older

I'm not out of shape - I'm running 6:30 minute miles and doing pullups with a 45 lb plate hanging from my waste. I can do a 4' box jump. My resting heart rate is in the low 50's. I don't have my 6-pack anymore (#dadlife), but I'm not out of shape. That said, I'm not quite in 'tennis shape' any...

Fitness programs as you get older

Played junior tennis and then dabbled in college. Looking at all my workouts from that 15 year period, everything is HIIT or Core work. Fast forward to my early-mid-30's, and I can't train like that anymore. After 2 hours of doubles (4.5/5.0 these days) I'm too sore to workout for the next 2 or...

    Storing/Concealing your stringing machine

I bought an Alpha Revo 4000 Stringing Machine when I was in high school, and I still have today, over a decade later. While it's still working great and has probably saved/made me thousands of dollars over the past 12+ years, even I will admit that it's not the prettiest appliance. I'm about to...

    Mannarino's Clothing Sponsor?

Trying to figure out what brand Mannarino was wearing at 's-Hertogenbosch open. There were clearly logos on the shorts, and some pattern on the shirt, but I didn't recognize the brand. Pic of Shirt below. Shorts also had a logo on his left side, but I couldn't find a pic online.

    Queuing in Wimbledon

None of the other slams have issues with grounds passes being super expensive. I'm ok if you want to keep the queue for show courts. Just bring a couple bottles of booze, some solo cups, and get some drinking games going. We only brought a couple flasks of whiskey, in hindsight, I would have...

    Queuing in Wimbledon

They really do love to queue. Was in London for 5 days, they ****ing queue EVERYWHERE. It's like they've never heard of appointments, or booking in advanced.

    Queuing in Wimbledon

Well, I have successfully queued for a grounds pass. It wasn't that bad, although I do wish I brought more alcohol with me. Also snuck into Court 1 and caught the last set of Wawrinka's second round match. It was a lot of fun, wish I got in earlier. Might write up a quick guide to queuing in...

    Queuing in Wimbledon

Aussie open is probably in much lesser demand than Wimbledon. I've never been to a grand slam before, but Wimbledon is the most prestigious grand slam (arguably the most prestigious event in sports). The queue is a way to keep the prices in check so any tennis fan can go.

    Queuing in Wimbledon

So if I get there by 6.30, you're fairly certain that I can get grounds passes and inside by 11.30?

    Queuing in Wimbledon

Give me your advice for Wimbledon Queuing. What time must I get there, how to plan it, etc. Edit: just want grounds passes at a reasonable price with minimal effort. I realize that one of theses two has to give, but, trying to minimize both.

There is needs to be a WATCH on court.

I'm very much in favor of a "shot clock" in tennis. I actually think it would make the game more fun to watch.

Buying a racquet with the intent of modifying

Welp, settled on the Wilson six.one 95, no lead needed. Thanks for all the help though.

Kirschbaum Synthetic Gut 15 - thoughts?

Welp, went ahead and bought a reel. Will report back after first hit.

People are giving too much atention to strings

Disagree. Strings are the part of the racquet that actually touches the ball. Equally as important as a racquet's weight, grip shape or feel. Of course, none of these things really matter :-)

Kirschbaum Synthetic Gut 15 - thoughts?

Currently play with k95's with full synthetic (a babolat 16 gauge) . They're breaking way too much (break strings on at least one racquet every time I play). I'm getting new sticks (Wilson 6.1 95, 16x18) and thinking about putting a 15 gauge synthetic gut in. I don't like the feel of poly in...

Buying a racquet with the intent of modifying

Regarding racquet matching - If I regrip a demo, will they throw the same grip on there too?

Buying a racquet with the intent of modifying

I'm a firm believe that arm injuries are caused by poor technique (whether that be tennis, working out, or some other motion one routinely repeats), not tennis racquets. This will not factor into my decision.

Buying a racquet with the intent of modifying

Really? If I mod a racquet to my liking, TW will mod two-three more to match the first and send me more just like it? Where do I find this service?!

Buying a racquet with the intent of modifying

I think my concern is that I'm buying racquets without knowing if the customization will do the trick. I guess I could just throw some lead tape on the demo and then take it off before I mail it back.

Buying a racquet with the intent of modifying

Demoing racquets for the first time in 7ish years. Played with K95 16x18, have been demoed 20ish racquets over the past 4ish weeks. I've narrowed my search down to two sticks: the Head Prestige Pro or the Babolat Pure Strike Tour. I think I'm leaning towards the Pure Strike Tour, but...

How do you flip the switch for social vs. competitive mixed doubles?

Used to work at a country club when I was a kid, sometimes I had to sub-in for old lady's who couldn't make it their doubles league - similar concept, you need to keep it 'competitive' but you can't 'play to win' This can actually be good practice for you. Still hit your full stroke, but...

    The Definition of Tennis Talent

Talent is a skill that can sometimes be practiced, but can never be taught. I would agree with sureshs: But I would rearrange such that Talent x Effort = Achievements Things like touch, coordination (Agassi's ability to take EVERY ball a split second after the bounce), speed, are all...

NCst and Clemson have a lot of competition to recruit those blue chips (UNC, NCst, USCe, Clemson, UGA, GT, ECU, and UT are all within driving distance of NC/SC . Given the historical prestige of FSU's football program (only program ever to finish ranked in the AP top 5 14 YEARS IN A ROW)...

    Good tennis for the traveler

Wow, thanks for all the input! Looks like I'll be traveling Mon-Thurs, but be in the same city for those 4 days, and return to the same place pretty regularly, so I might be able to join a USTA League in whatever city I'm in? Networking is a great idea, not sure why that never occurred to...

    Good tennis for the traveler

So I'm graduating soon, leaving the ranks of college tennis and entering the world of USTA leagues. In all likelihood my job is going to be about 75% travel. Are their leagues/organizations that help organize matches for people who travel for work? TIA

If Nadal loses to Djokovic tommorow.

Not sure why, but Djoker hasn't impressed me the way Fed did in '04. Fed looked like he was treeing every single match, Djoker seems to be playing within himself, which might actually be more impressive... Anyways, I don't see Djoker winning 12+ Slams. Could be wrong. I see him getting 5-8...

Most Impressive Pro Up Close and Why?

Saw Delpo hit at the 08 Legg Mason I think? If I recall, he just broke the top 20. Never seen anyone hit a ball harder.
