You can win 20 slams - choose your distribution

AO: 1 RG: 1 W: 17 USO: 1 With "only" 20 majors I'll never be talked about as the GOAT but with 17 Wimbledon crowns I'll probably have a record that will never be broken! Plus I'd be in the exclusive club that won at each major.

Has Alcaraz killed the academy myth of the ideal tennis player?

OP's academy - court one (how to get more boom in your serve); court two (how to run around your backhand); court three (how to get leg lengthening surgery) ...

What is the oldest tennis match you have watched live on TV that you still remember vividly?

Ken Rosewall winning the 1970 US Open on the worn out grass at Forest Hills. Bud Collins, who called the match, was only about five years older than Rosewall who, at 35, was quite old for a top flight player at that time.

    A question for the scholars

Feliciano Lopez (1997 - current) also overlapped with Christian Ruud (1991-2001 - highest rank #39) and Casper Ruud (2015 - current - highest rank #2). I know Feliciano played Casper recently and there's a good chance he played Christian earlier in his career.

    A question for the scholars

Jimmy Connors played from 1972-1996. His career would have overlapped with Fred Stolle (1966-1976 - highest rank #1) and his son Sandon Stolle (1991-2003 - highest rank #50). There is a decent chance Connors would have played both at some point in his long career.

Rafa: "not having one of the best players of the history in the draw of Grand Slam is always an important miss, no?”

So you must also believe that people are forced to go to medical school if they want to be doctors; or that you are forced to get a license if you want to drive legally or even that you are forced to wear clothing if you want to walk around in public. The fact is that many, many activities have...

Rafa: "not having one of the best players of the history in the draw of Grand Slam is always an important miss, no?”

Come on! Novak is not being forced to get a vaccine. In fact, to this day Novak remains unvaccinated. His choice. If he wanted to travel to the US for the Open, he would follow the law and get the vaccine like every other non-citizen player. It's not like he was unaware of the US travel...

Rafa: "not having one of the best players of the history in the draw of Grand Slam is always an important miss, no?”

True. Novak chose not to play. A player injured so badly that they cannot play doesn't have a choice.

Reaction To Tennis Channel Showing Pickleball Instead of the WTA Citi Open Final

You can always have an announcer free match. Just push the mute button! I promise you, especially if you like to multitask while watching, good announcers enhance the viewing experience. I think TC+'s no announcers for male matches is the worst of both worlds and results in a lot of...

Reaction To Tennis Channel Showing Pickleball Instead of the WTA Citi Open Final

TC+ has lots of its own issues. For instance, if you thought you'd get regular TC with your subscription to TC+ you don't. This results in big matches, like prime-time finals shown on TC, not being available on TC+. Men's night-time matches are often not shown on TC+; instead you get...

    New ATP top 10 rankings

Look at you making logical sense. The ATP, an organization chartered in 1972 to protect the interest of professional tennis players, changed the rules about awarding points to anoint Medvedev as the #1 player in the world. What's to complain about, the ATP is just protecting the interests of...

Coach - Is that the Smasher in the picture? I wasn't aware that Laver ever used the Spalding Smasher. I recall Pancho Gonzalez playing with that racket for a time, but not the Rocket.

Wow! The fastest bullets travel at just over 4000 feet per second which is slower than this 2931 mph serve. I'm guessing body serves will win this server lots of matches! ;)

Are two master 1000s equal a slam?

I generally agree with all you've said. I would add that Roddick finished in the top 10 for 9 consecutive years which is a very high level of consistency, excellence and durability at the top of the game in modern tennis. HOF-caliber, absolutely. But I'm sticking to my guns that the way...

Are two master 1000s equal a slam?

I think what many posters are recognizing is that Masters titles are an enviable achievement and a great accomplishment but if one wants to be considered "great" you must have a Slam title on your resume'. Since Gaston Gaudio has ben tossed about a lot in this thread, I'll give an example from...

Are two master 1000s equal a slam?

The slam is the only reason Gaudio is remembered. Do you think he would be talked about at all if he had five masters titles but no slam? Obviously not. The slam is all that matters. Should it be that way, probably not. Five masters titles is a massive achievement. Is it that way, yes! A slam...

Are two master 1000s equal a slam?

Objectively, no! Masters titles are an astounding tennis achievement. In reality, they are almost as hard to win as Majors. But, in modern tennis, especially since the rise of the "big 3", Major titles have become by far the most important measuring stick. Majors are now viewed as...

Are two master 1000s equal a slam?

I guess i should have included that I'm not aware of any modern player without at least one singles major being inducted into the players Hall of Fame. In other words, Zverev will not get in without a major even if he wins more 5 masters titles; Thiem, on the other hand, might have already done...
