    Edberg Chang RG 1989

Are you referring to him serving underhand? That’s not cheating. Poor sportsmanship, but not cheating. What do you mean juicy bananas? I still don’t understand why you have to mention his race. Why can’t he just be a cheater and not a “Chinese cheater”. Race has nothing to do with it. You sound...

How did Boris Becker win "only" six Slams?

Agreed. I watched that match countless times. Edberg started playing lights out. Mecir did not collapse. Awesome match, great tennis at the highest caliber. The last 3 sets I would say was top 10 highest level that I've seen Edberg play. Almost at the zone/level of his beat down of Jim C...

    Edberg Chang RG 1989

Why do you have to mention that he's Chinese in a negative tone? Also, when did he cheat? What are you referring too?

Can your USTA Rating get bump down during the year

Does anyone know if you can get bump down during the year? Specifically if you have a bunch of bad loses would the computer bump you down? Or could you automatically appeal via computer and get bumped down? I know of people getting bumped up with a big win but does it happen in reverse. Say...

Was Wilander A Pusher In His Day?

I would say Wilander was the second best. Connors would be the best.

    Bjorn Borg versus Mats Wilander....

My point was none were Shameful loses considering Borg was a pup. Same goes to the Wilander lost to Noah. Should Borg have won those and should Wilander have beaten Noah? Well yeah. But I wouldn't say they were shameful loses.

    Why couldn't Wilander crack Wimbledon?

Yup. When I asked Mats this question he told me he always went to the AO early to prepare and get used to playing on the grass while he didn't have that chance at Wimbledon. Plus, he said some of his loses at Wimbledon was just due to the other guys (eg. Cash) just playing to well. That...

    Bjorn Borg versus Mats Wilander....

Disagree. If Wilander could handle Lendl's power he could handle Borg's The difference is Borg was mentally tougher then Lendl. Wilander wouldn't be able to mentally bully Borg the way he did to Lendl in those big matches. Almost all the top players had a better game, and more talent then...

    Bjorn Borg versus Mats Wilander....

Kiki, I was surprise to see this written by you. You are one of the astute poster we have here. Come on, give Wilander a break dude. The guy was only 18 years old. He had a great '83 by grinding and competing but he was no where near his prime. It was a perfect storm for Noah to win that...

    Bjorn Borg versus Mats Wilander....

Borg have lost to "choke-up-on-the-grip-lousy-groundstrokes" at the '82 Monte Carlo. Score was 6-1, 6-2 . That's on clay buddy. Granted Borg wasn't playing much in '82. You do know that Noah beat Lendl on his way to winning the '82 French right, Jeez. Give a 18 year old Wilander a break.

    Bjorn Borg versus Mats Wilander....

Wilander told me the same thing. But I asked him how '88 Wilander would do against Borg. His respond was he would beat Borg. He elaborated by saying '88 Mats was miles a head of '82 Mats and it "wasn't even close." Also, he said that every 6-8 years the game moves forward. He could only...

Thanks for correction, can't believe my memory let me down.

    Stats for 1988 FO Final(Wilander-Leconte)

When I had a chance to talk to him, Mats said that was probably the worst lost of his career. I was expecting a grand slam final lost, like the '87 USO, but he said that lost to Steeb hurt the most. Weird how he lost again to Steeb the following year in '89 Davis Cup final also.

Lendl v McEnroe - who was the greater player?

I believe it was Don Budge that told him that. Also told him to attack and try to get to the net as soon as possible.

    Ivan Lendl's Slam Finals Record

I would rank Lendl 2nd to the bottom. The last would be Agassi. Lets be clear, all of them had great mental toughness. Its just those other guys had greater toughness

    The best backhand ever?

I really like this list. However, I would easily take Murray's, Mecir's, and Wilander's backhand over guys like Lendl and Vilas. I think all three hand better return of serves off that wing, better passing shots, and better lobs. Maybe they didn't quite hit with as much pace as say Lendl (esp...

    Peak Play GOATS

Great list I would add Becker vs Edberg and Wilander Davis Cup finals '89 (I think only god mode Fed/Sampras/or Mac could even compete against Becker that weekend on that fast indoor court) Edberg vs Jim C USO final '91 Edberg vs Wilander AO semi '90 Sampras vs Becker Masters final '94 and...

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

I actually asked him since he lives in the US would he ever consider working for ESPN tennis coverage instead of Eurosport. His reply, "I don't think they would hire me because I'm not American." But I reminded him that Cahill isn't American. His reply, "yeah but he wasn't a great player."...

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

Glad you guys have enjoyed the post. If any of you guys have the chance I would totally recommend doing the Wilander on Wheels fantasy. Awesome experience. I met him briefly years ago at a Wilander vs Borg exo, but WOW was a dream come true. Being able to hit with him and chill with him at...

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

I would say a good 5-8 feet, it would be hit with decent pace and drop a few feet from the baseline.

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

Yeah, I totally forgot to ask him about Mecir. However, in various interviews, Mats is on record stating that he couldn't figure out how to beat the Big Cat.

Greatest of all time? - Accomplishment wise you have to go with Fed - But in truth, you really can’t say who’s the greatest of all time. To many variable; different eras, conditions, competition, grand slams (who played them, importance of them), etc……… - Talent wise from what I saw Laver...

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

What was your game plan against the following? a. Lendl: Very tough if he’s serving well. Have to mix it up. Try to get inside his head. The thing about Lendl was I knew he would always play the same way. It was up to me to adjust. b. Becker: Make him hit as many balls as possible...

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

He answered these questions (paraphrase): Create your perfect player (I allowed him to pick himself) - Forehand: Fed o Not the biggest but overall the best - Backhand: Djoker o Why no Agassi and Connors? • Because Djoker can do more with the ball from a defensive position. Plus on the...

Got to hit with Wilander and also Q and A

He still hits a very clean ball. He doesn’t hit out much but when he does he can really rip it. His average ball has a lot of spin and is hit with a lot of depth but isn’t very heavy compared to a lot of guys. When he rips it his ball does have a lot of topspin that dips very quickly and...

    Wilander quick on the court?

Yeah both had very similar games. I would say Rafter had the better serve, Cash slightly better volleys (had more sting), while Rafter had better groundies.

    Has Nadal surpassed Borg yet?

After reading all the arguments its quite clear that Borg is still slightly ahead and I'm a huge Nadal fan. Being objective he's not at Borg's level YET. I think it's a little weird that people don't see that. Come on people, can anyone every change their minds when good evidence trumps...

Best player to never win a Slam - Miloslav Mecir

I'm a huge Mecir fan but I don't think you are giving Murray enough credit. As for that Semi between Mecir and Edberg I actually thought Edberg raised his game to break through in the final 3 sets.
