[POLL] Is Djokovic better on clay or Nadal on hard outdoor?

That's my line of thinking too. Djokovic would have 4-6 more French Opens if you remove Nadal. Nadal would have 1-3 more hard court slams if you take away Djokovic, and that’s spread across 2 hard courts slams as well.

[POLL] Is Djokovic better on clay or Nadal on hard outdoor?

As others have pointed out: Nadal has the higher peak level on hard (on possibly on grass for whatever it's worth), but Djokovic definitely has the higher floor/base level on clay. Djoker never peaked on clay like Rafa did at some of the HC slams he won, or 2008 Olympics. But Rafa has a 50%...

Important match where Federer beat Nadal/Djokovic from the baseline without his serve?

Fed outplayed Djoker from the baseline in both USO 08 and 09. Not really "important" matches but the aforementioned IW 2012 match vs Rafa. Also the 2014 Shanghai match against Djokovic Fed only won 68.6% of first serves but won by playing stunning tennis from the baseline.

We have to believe in Novak Djokovic

Nobody has ever beat the top 3 players in the world on route to winning a slam - at least not in the open era. This would be quite a feat for Novak indeed.

At the slam level, who do you think between Federer, Nadal and Djokovic has achieved less than they could have?

Nadal should have 40 slams? Really? Which of the slams that he missed or withdrew from do you think he would have won? The only ones that stick out to me are 2009 Wimby and maybe 2016 Roland Garros. 2004 RG and UO 2012 perhaps but that's a long shot.

My bad, but I can confirm that this is the longest gap :)

    Longest title drought for ATP?

@The Green Mile I was genuinely curious about this so I did some more digging. Phil Dent won Sydney Outdoor in Jan 1971 and his next title was Brisbane in October of 1979. A period of over 8.5 years - this seems to be the biggest title gap in the open era, unless I missed something.

    Longest title drought for ATP?

Dimitrov's 7 year gap was the longest one that I could find as well. You are right that Fucsovics has a 6 year gap, as do a few other players (Ram, Rochus, Magnus Larsson, Ferrero, Nieminen, Feliciano Lopez). Edit: at least among matches from the past 3 decades or so.

The most incredible statistic in men's tennis?

Fed winning two different slams 5 times in a row stands out to me - something I probably won't see again in my life time.

    Match Stats/Report - Djokovic vs Sinner, Wimbledon semi-final, 2023

@Waspsting The lowest DR in a winning match appears to be by Zverev, of all people. The other "low DR" match wins are not surprisingly mostly from big servers. The aforementioned Roddick/Johansson match is the lowest in a slam. The interesting thing about DR as it relates to this match is that...

    Constant pull vs Lockout

This idea seems to have been debunked by another user on these boards. At least with regard to eCP. I have linked to his post below. http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/why-constant-pull-when-stringing-fast.616235/post-12275860

Who had a more shocking fall - Federer or Nadal

Nobody saw 2011 Djokovic coming though. And in early 10' it was far from certain that Nadal would ever reach his 2008 form again. People forget but 2010 Australian Open was an awesome tournament for Fed too. Hewitt even said he felt Roger played better against him there then he did in the 2004...

    Embarrassing tennis knowledge gaps.

Don't really follow up too much on WTA and haven't for a long time. Generally DO keep up with men's tennis, especially most things big 3 related. But for whatever reason, I had absolutely no recollection of Nadal winning Olympic gold doubles in 2016 until someone mentioned it here a few weeks ago

Only Mats, Rog and Nole have done the calendar HC slam double

Nadal/Murray in 2011 and Fed/Djokovic 2011 both come to mind. Also Fed Hewitt in 2004 IIRC.

Which year was Djokovic’s Peak Performance at the Australian Open?

2011. Federer is almost always playing poorly if he loses in straights in a slam. Not in this match. Edit: 2016 is a good choice too. His level in the first two sets against Fed was incredible. 2019 is up there, but that was a really poor final from Nadal as well so it's hard to gauge...

Novak Đoković is 24-10 vs. (Nadal+Federer+Murray) since 2011 in majors, and 26-19 overall..

Because the competition declined. Murray and Wawrinka got injured, Fedal declined, and no one in the next generations was anything to write home about...until Sinner and Alcaraz came along. Djokovic has never reached the levels he reached in 2015 and early 16' since then. He simply hasn't...

Novak's potential semi-final opponent at US Open

Zverev, assuming we don't know who is in the final. But Djokovic would rather play Alcaraz in the semi and Zverev in the final than vice versa.

Am I missing something? Did I watch the same final?

Djokovic under performed in the same way he did in the French Open 2020 final: he came out flat the first two sets. His opponent was playing phenomenally and made him pay for it big time. He started to get things going in the third set but by then it was too late. I am not sure if this was...

Can we please stop comparing Sinner 2024 to Federer 2004 now?

Djokovic was ranked between #3 and #4 every time Roddick beat him. Federer was ranked outside the top 10 in 4/6 matches Henman beat him in, and outside the top 100 in one of those 4. Not quite the same thing….

Roger Federer speaks about Novak Djokovic

You said it yourself: Federer declined after 2009. After he broke the record he lost a bit of motivation. It turns out being the oldest of the big 3 was not as big of an advantage as people thought it was. And how many of these "easily winnable matches" were in slam finals? At the end of the...

On my Warrior 100 I have Prince Premier Control on the mains and Volkl Cyclone Tour 16 on the crosses. They play really well together, I definitely noticed a boost in performance from using just PPC. I personally use a hybrid because I love the feel you get from multi, but I imagine a full...

Djokodal would have conquered the “weak era” even more than Fed did, and ended up with better stats than his by 2008

The whole premise of this thread is kind of screwy. Fed winning 11 slams in 2004-07 is absolutely bonkers. OP is basically saying Djokodal could have won a similar amount of slams in an 8 year period that Federer won in 4 years. This is somehow supposed to be a dig at Fed, but it ends up...

Djokodal would have conquered the “weak era” even more than Fed did, and ended up with better stats than his by 2008

Scenario for Nadal is way off. The old surface at the Australian Open would be less suitable for his game. Gonzalez in 07 absolutely wiped the floor with him. Does 2012 Nadal win that match? Maybe, but I don't see him winning AO in both 04 and 07. Same at Wimbledon. Nadal faced a match point...

    Djokovic's best win against Federer

That is a very interesting take. Personally, I see it the exact opposite. In 2015 he seemed very solid, but not threatening to Djokovic if he was at his best. 2011 Fed actually beat Djokovic in a slam and was a point away from doing it twice. I dunno how that's not being a factor. And more...
