Connors' brilliant response to Ashe's criticism of his game

In his book Portrait in Motion Ashe said (after the first time he played Connors, and lost in five) "he has a sharp court mind, a sort of spatial sixth sense ... he knows ... if I hit such and such a shot from this spot in such and such a way the odds are x that the ball will be returned to such...

    Bring back linesmen

Foot fault calls are also automated I think. The computer must match video of foot position with sound of serve or video of racquet hitting the ball. Maybe the computer could make the serve time clock warning too.

Yes, Fed and Nadal are always going to be glad that Medvedev stopped the CYGS.

They are the same looking forward but not looking back. At 30 all there has not been a game point; at deuce there has been at least one.

Just going on the record to say Medvedev was poorly treated by the Australian Open final crowd.

In the replay on youtube- First set, 2-2 Nadal serving, he goes down 0-30. At 0-30 a Nadal UFE. Plenty of cheering and clapping, nowhere near as much as when Nadal wins a point, but plenty. At 0-40 a Nadal UFE, a shank. Plenty of cheering and clapping, nowhere near as much as when Nadal wins...

Just going on the record to say Medvedev was poorly treated by the Australian Open final crowd.

Cmon Spencer, get the AO moved to PRC or some place where the crowd will politely clap after all good shots and remain silent at other times. Maybe bring in a dress code for spectators too.

How can an almost 40 year old be physicaly better than a 25 year old?

Nadal did a bit of energy management too. In the fifth, Med serving, 40-0, Nadal let the serve go, let Daniil have another ace. Like Jack Kramer's advice in 1950, get a break then no exertion on return games.

Stats show Shapo had more winners than UFE in sets 3 and 4. Set 4 14 winners and 5 UFE. In sets 1, 2, and 5 he had more UFEs than winners. Rafa looked done for in the fourth. He had a rest, court was in full shade, he got the break and from there he used the Sampras playbook and barely tried in...
