Advice For 22 Year Old Returning From Meniscus Surgery (For a 2nd Time)

Preface: I know doctor's advice is better than people on a forum. I'm simply looking for supplementary anecdotal advice ;) January 2019: I had nagging knee pain for about 4-5 months then it got bad one day after playing. MRI later showed that I tore my meniscus. February 2020: Partial...

Gilbert does have the best nicknames

I used to love Brad (even read Winning Ugly) until I noticed one particular thing about his commentating. In the mind of Brad Gilbert: Priority #2 Commentate a tennis match Priority #1 Flex my tennis knowledge

Tennis elbow, golf elbow or tricep tendinitis?

If you can't figure it out, you could always just do treatment for both. First get one of those little things to put pressure on your forearm, and figure out which orientation relieves the pain somewhat. Then you'll just have to massage and strengthen it. Get a flexbar and look up Jamie Dryer...

Beware of this in the summer sun... citrus

I'm not talking about consuming citrus fruits. I'm talking about having the juice on your skin. Update, 4 days later and parts of my hands look like pepperoni pizza.

Beware of this in the summer sun... citrus

The other day I was playing tennis. Then someone mentioned a lime tree nearby. I decided to go grab a lime, bite off the end, and squeeze it into my water before resuming my tennis. Despite being very good about putting on sunscreen, I noticed my hands were sunburned the next day (as well as...

Improving movement beyond just speed and footwork

With my game right now, movement has kind of hit a wall. My actual running speed is pretty good but maybe slightly below average for someone my age and fitness level. My actual setup footwork is a strong point. I split step for every shot, take more than enough steps, find a good balance of...

Fatigue question, has anyone experienced something like this?

It gave me joint pain while I was on it, but went away a few months after getting off. Other than that nothing out of the ordinary.

How to get pro player's quads and thighs?

Agreed. Not saying there aren't good personal trainers, but all it means is that they paid a bunch of money to take a days worth of classes for a certificate. Literally anyone can become a personal trainer in a couple days. My advice would be barbell squats as well. They've made my legs...

    The FASTING phenomenon ....

I started intermittent fasting almost a year ago. What I've learned is that a lot of the benefits that are commonly associated with it like insulin sensitivity, extra fat burn, and such are mostly negligible. However, it makes it so much easier to stay low calorie, so I use it whenever I am...

Fatigue question, has anyone experienced something like this?

Used to be a moderate sweater. Then I took some acne medicine called acutane (if you know of it you know how serious this stuff is) for 6 months. While on the medicine I barely sweated at all. After getting off of acutane, I feel like I sweat more than Rafa. I always have to wear a sweatband...

Does being a good tennis player translate to GOLF?

Golf can be a tricky mistress sometimes. The course I play at most of the time favors those who hit it long and straight, and I usually keep my scores pretty consistent around the 80-85 range on a decent day. On the other hand my friend lives on a course nearby, and we play there a decent bit...

Does being a good tennis player translate to GOLF?

For me personally I had a really good experience with translating my tennis to golf. When I got tennis elbow I took up golf about 13 months ago. Started out slow shooting in the low 100s and quickly made progress. I think the biggest factor to my golf improvement wasn't actually the general...

    Impossible to put on muscle

As far as supplements go, there are the big 3 being protein powder, creatine, and preworkout. However, protein powder is not even really a supplement given there isn't anything in it you can't get from food. It just makes it cheaper and more convenient. Creatine, while irreplaceable by diet...

    Impossible to put on muscle

There's really no such thing as a "hardgainer" as it's often referred to. Some people are more genetically gifted than others, and often they can naturally have a lot of muscle mass without having to lift. However, everybody has plenty of muscle building potential. I guarantee if you consume...

Pinky toe sprain: can I just ignore it now?

Sprained (or possibly, but probably not, broke) my pinky toe 2 weeks ago. First 5 days it was pretty swollen and I could barely put any pressure on that side of my foot. Then, it got a ton better in like a day. Now, for the last 8ish days it's been pretty stagnant but progressing slowly...

    Leg press machine ???

Barbell squats are always gonna be the king of leg exercises, but leg press is good too if you don't want to risk injury due to poor form. Your soreness tells me 2 things: 1. It's hitting muscle groups that you don't exercises often. 2. You're not exercising legs enough. Typically muscle...

What is your diet like ??

If it fits your macros diet. When bulking: 2900 calories comprised of 180g protein, 320g carbs, 100g fat When cutting: 2100 calories comprised of 180g protein, 220g carbs, 60g fat Other than that some thrown in veggies for micronutrients and some caffeinated beverages for suppressing appetite...

Why does tennis attract such a variety of people?

Tennis is very blinding in terms of being aware of your own skill level. Basically if you're not good but you play someone that's also not good, you won't notice how bad you are. In contrast, if you suck at golf, you just suck at golf. Therefore, golf gets reduced to people who can do it all...

    weightlifting

I think it's very situational. If you're a professional tennis player who's already at peak fitness for tennis, it'll probably do a little bit of harm over time because of potential added mass and loss of flexibility. However, most people on this forum either aren't in good enough "tennis...

    Great article on fasting.....

One interesting thing I found out recently was the "having more muscle burns more calories" is not as much of a difference as you would think. Apparently, 1 pound of extra muscle burns an average of an extra 9 calories daily, so if you put on 20 pounds of muscle which is an insanely high amount...

    Great article on fasting.....

From what I've read and experienced personally, getting into a "fat burning" phase is more of a concept that applies in theory but not actuality. It's pretty much calories in calories out for the number on the scale to go down. If you want to lose fat, from what I've read and seen, there's...

    Great article on fasting.....

I would recommend looking into 16/8 lean gains intermittent fasting. Honestly, it was the gateway into me changing my entire eating habits. For reference the stuff I say is from someone who did it for 4 months straight every day, stopped it for 4 months when I went onto a lean bulk, and now...

Do you use a ball hopper? Trivial tip to increase fitness.

My point was that your tip has more potential for unneeded wear on the joints in the your back than it is benefit to your legs. If you want some extra exercise in your legs just do some squats or lunges. Also, I agree with others that for me personally using the hopper is a lot faster.

Do you use a ball hopper? Trivial tip to increase fitness.

Pro tip: Run with your legs straightened out as tight as you can. Not only with this work those patellar tendons and wear down the cartilage, but it will also flex your glutes. Something we almost never do.

Anyone done a 3000 cal diet to gain weight & muscle?

Squats help tremendously! Even while bulking from 170 to 179, I actually got faster on court in that same time frame.

    Treatment for tennis obsession/addiction

Only thing that killed my addiction was tennis elbow. Then I caught the golfing bug. Money killed my golf addiction, so now I'm a gym rat. I think now I've settled into a nice mix of the three though :)
