What’s the point of sharp edged strings if they don’t actually produce more spin?

The average player can appreciate the feeling of extra bite on the ball more than a high level player. A pro level player wouldn't need it as much as their swing speeds are much higher and they can max out whatever type of string they have. It's similar to a lighter racket vs a heavier racket...

    Costs for tennis restringing services?

Costs went up for many things over the past few years that would increase prices like: reels that were $80 are now often $120-150. Normal suppliers will be out of stock forcing you to pay the higher price to get it. website and transactional fees up 20% email and domain hosting up graphical...

    Low tension=power loss?

Agree there isn't a huge difference seen there, but I think looking at forward ball speed of his serve alone doesn't mean there isn't any difference for the resulting serve spin or heaviness, or even effort for him. I'm not sold that tension has zero effect on power as some others said. 1-2% is...

Toroline strings slipping in the string machine gripper

Usually it's as simple as cleaning the gripper with alcohol, regular cleaners won't work as good. Then a slight gripping adjustment if needed. Same goes for the clamps. Using some strings requires doing this more often.

Casper Ruud why not thinner ptp in cross?

Ok I see what you are saying about depth of deflection could limit side movement. I would think that in a pro's case like Ruud he has the rhs and power to overcome this resistance though. An amateur might not be able to overcome this, but they also aren't able to get the same pocketing depth...

Casper Ruud why not thinner ptp in cross?

Why would sinking more into the stringbed mean less snap back, can you explain?

Am I the only one who likes the BLUE yonex PTP?

Been bouncing back and fourth from 1.15 and 1.20 ptp yellow. Can honestly say I like the 1.20 better which is rare for me, usually prefer 18 if I have the choice. But in the case of ptp, 18 seems to fizzle out so quick and just doesn't have that same feel as 1.20

Switch from stiff to soft poly

Can you explain? Stiffer strings are usually lower powered as they deform the ball more among other things

The newer essential text layer allows you to have all the score possibilities and graphics in 1 layer and you can hide or reveal what score is needed in the essential graphics panel editor. Then you make cuts with the C key where...

    Velocity but livelier

Is this why people like Multifeel/Velocity? Haven't tried it yet but want to understand the longevity and quality of it for the typical player.

    Velocity but livelier

Haven't messed with Sensation in a while and so used to Velocity. Strung up Sensation last night and wow was it sticky. The opposite of slick. Cringe when you pull tension on the crosses like something is going to snap. Not hating on Sensation, plays great initially but then...

Full bed, and preferably in the same price range as Velocity. A lot of people shy away from X1 and NXT price point unless they are already sold on those strings.

    Velocity but livelier

Velocity is my go to spin and control multi but sometimes a player wants more of that traditional powerful experience like a Sensation. But I can't stomach the sticky, gumminess that Sensation and NXT become, where Velocity holds up pretty good for string movement. Is there a multi that is...

Playing My First UTR Tournament This Weekend, Any Tips?

Be willing to lose - get past the fear of losing so you can focus on playing your best tennis. Don't focus on winning - crave the motivation, the process, the effort. The win will only come from hard work and effort.

Help me understand poly durability (tension loss)

Are you just feeling this with your new racket or what was your experience like before the switch? The decline in performance is normal. Yes some players restring every few weeks, but most do it every few months. In short no matter what string you use, you'll have to make small stroke...

    Clamp tension

Clean your clamping surface often. So many strings leave a very oily slick residue that will cause you to clamp down harder to get the same effect.

    Pushers!!

You can't win at halftime. Just because he won a set doesn't mean anything. There's a good chance you would have lost the 2nd set if you got too worked up about the 1st set. Not a horrible score, either.

Strings going 'dead' not what I thought

All I saw was spam ads and videos on that post, and some keyword stuffing. The term dead means different things from one player to another. A "dead feeling" string can be positive thing for fast swinging players.

    Under the radar poly strings…

Alu Pearl Rough reminded me of Tour Bite. It was not soft, low powered, crazy spin, direct connection feel. For the price I wouldn't worry too much about tension maint, I would just restring it every few hours. Definitely not a copy of Alu Rough as the name implies. It's not a rough string...

Are perfection, expectation, and overly critical self-talk killing your performance/confidence?

When it's getting toward the end of the match each one gets more costly, but to your point it's extra important to see it all the way through to the end. Anyone know what percentage of rec matches are decided in a TB?

Post Tennis serve online coaching videos

Not an instructional but a lot to be learned from watching Fed warm up serves. Almost no knee bend, so loose, not caring if it even goes in the right box, fluffy spin. Then you see the progression to a full serve. For me it helps to remove all those extra movements and start with the basics...

Cross tie off knot is touching the bottom cross.

To avoid this you would usually have to enlarge another hole, which I try to avoid if I can to not compromise the string that's already in there. And then a lot of the time that hole has a sharp bend on the grommet and is not contoured, so the string is now going around a harsh corner. To me...

Are perfection, expectation, and overly critical self-talk killing your performance/confidence?

In every tennis match, even in the highest levels, there's a certain amount of errors that occur by each player. If you can accept this reality, then you can understand it's only part of the game to make an error. You see some pro's not even flinch after a bad one or at a clutch moment in a tb...

    The gut/poly thread

Since it's your first my vote is Alu Power since it's round, would be a good place to start. I know a lot of people like shaped crosses but you can always try those in the future.

Cross tie off knot is touching the bottom cross.

On some rackets it's just the best option, and since it's on the bottom it shouldn't be a high stress point. Depends on string setup but usually crosses will break in the middle to upper hoop.
