    Playing regularly against pushers

Completely agree with this. Pushers who run around very well, allow you to evaluate and improve your: 1) approach shots 2) volleys 3) overheads 4) put aways on short high balls

    How important is STRETCHING?

EXTREMELY important. Before leaving home for the tennis courts: 1) stationary bike for 5-10 minutes to warm up. 2) mix of dynamic stretches and yoga stretches for 30-40 minutes. I had a herniated disk 5 yrs back and doing yoga has stretched, and strengthened my back, and increased its...

Best Serves to Come In Behind

if you are serious about improving your s&v game, play against a player 0.5 below you, and come in on all first serves placed anywhere. If you can beat him doing this, start comming in on 50% of second serves also. You may lose a few friendly matches, but no better way to learn s&v than to...

Who had/has tougher rivals: Sampras or Federer?

Federer has no rivals since he pretty much wins every grandslam these days, and never allows his rivals to win any.. Pete was never this dominating. i.e. if you dominate completely you will never have 'great' rivals.. Feds only rival is Nadal on one surface.

    First time with Tennis elbow

For tennis elbow, from personal experience, I think stiffness is more of an issue than weight. The weight effects shoulder more on the serve. I had tennis elbow for a week, when using my stiff Pro Kennex Graphite prophecy weighing probably 11 oz.. Immediately switched back to my POG OS...

What level should you be to be able to hit a Kick Serve?

I do not remember mcenroe, connors or lendl ever hitting a kick serve. Seems like they hit mostly topspin/sidespin serves for their second serves. So kick serves are not an absolute requirement at any level. The newer generation of pro's seems to use the kick serve more.

What level should you be to be able to hit a Kick Serve?

Kick serves are not a requirement. I am 5-10 and many of the guys I play against are 6-2 and above with 2 handed backhands. They would eat up my kick serve. I prefer to slice or side/topspin in my second serve and these serves are easier on the body.

    How to serve harder

I find it best to straighten my mechanics in my garage. Do the entire swing without hitting any balls. This way you do not have the pressure of finishing your swing quickly to meet the ball.

    ProKennex Ace series

Does anyone know the weight, beam width and flexibility of these frames? For flexibility, I would expect the copper to be ~55, Bronze ~58, Silver ~61?

    Sour Grapes?

Out here in the US, I think sampras was underhyped because of agassi. Most folks here loved agassi more than sampras. Also, sampras initially was just one of the crowd (courier, agassi, chang...) till he separated himself from them. Fed is a bit overhyped but very deservedly so. The only...

    hybrid with different gauges?

I have the following reels: Goosen 15L pro tuff Goosen 17 OG micro I generally use a racquet strung with 15L for my practice (serving / wall practice / rallying) since it lasts longer. When I play sets/matches I switch to the racquet strung with 17. I was wondering if I could use 17 on the...

    Foreign College Tennis Players

wow!! that looks like a scandinavian tennis team. They could probably pass off as americans so there is no public awareness. When >50% of the players are obviously foreigners (asia or africa or south america), then the public outcry may force rule changes..

    foot fault percentage

I was watching a singles recreational match (both around 4.0) at our public courts last week. I noticed both players foot faulting blatantly about 9 inches or so on every serve! One guy followed it up to the net so that was a big advantage. That got me thinking.. what percentage of...

    The Drop Shot

If he is a 2.5, his regular groundies probably go 10-20 feet past the net, and the 2-5 feet ones are probably his short groundies :D

What shots are better now that you are older?

I am a 42 year 'OLD' guy :D who stopped playing at 30 and just restarted a few months back. on Serve 1) I have stopped jumping up off the ground (knees get impacted and i have tendinits). Instead my left foot is on its toes at impact. 2) I still have a pretty good back bend and body rotation...

Better serve into Ad or Deuce court?

Which court do you serve better into? i.e. more aces, service winners and less double faults. I feel more comfortable serving into the Ad court. My Topspin 2nd serve to the Ad side is higher percentage, probably because of geometry. For 1st serve I have not noticed much difference.

    how to be 15lbs lighter????

Try having a lot of sex ;) but then again, if you need to lose weight urgently, its probably because your single, and looking to snare a gal. so you probably cannot have a lot of sex :D i.e. back to the drawing board

I Met With Jim And Pete

I have seen Pete play recently and I agree. I think Pete will surprise Roger in the 1st set of their first match with his power level. After that Roger will figure him out, but I doubt Roger will break Pete more than once a set consistently. i.e. Roger will win 6-4 or 7-5 or 7-6 sets...

I Met With Jim And Pete

I had a friend who met sampras in an atlanta subway, very obvious with his tennis bag, way back in ~1992. I think he had won 1 US Open by then. He says sampras talked to him for a while in the train, and seemed like a very humble nice guy. Maybe the constant fan pestering over the years...

    practicing serves

I second that.. 1) Take about 30 seconds between serves 2) If you miss a first serve, hit a second serve 3) Switch from Deuce to Ad court after every first/second serve 4) Switch sides after 8 serves 5) Keep statistics - First serve percentage, second serve %, double faults / 100 points...

WTA Player beats ATP Player... Debate settled?

1000+ ATP ranking is basically a college level player. I think Justin Henin can beat 5.5 male players. But I doubt she would beat a top 400 ATP player.

Roddick loses to amateur in exhibition!

Nice Story. :) Roddick seems to be a cool guy despite all the hatred he receives on this board. I think it would be more difficult to beat connors or mcenroe if they played with frying pans. The 'old timers' hit the ball flatter, and were not so dependent on spin and large frame racquets as...
