    They Teach Doubles Wrong.

I know what you are advocating is not and won't work for me or my level. The assumption you maybe making is that the return is consistent. It never is at my level. I do not know if it is even consistent at pro levels. As the RP, I have no idea if the returner will be able to return the serve...

    They Teach Doubles Wrong.

It is hard to disagree with @travlerajm, but I also agree with others too, many good observations and ideas. I am a low to mid-level 4.0, and have been for the past couple of years. I play 4.0, 4.5, 8.0 and 8.0/8.5 MXD, even 7.5 and 7.0 MXD sometimes. I would feel confident to say that I am an...

Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Babolat Pure Strike VS 2022

Babolat Pure Strike VS Gen 3 Review - PART II Groundstrokes: The first surprise for me was how my OHBHs were easier to hit and the level of precision I had with the PSVS. The second surprise was how difficult it was for me to hit my FHs. I had tremendous difficulty with all of my FH shots. I...

    Service Speed by USTA Level?

I played up last night at 4.5. My serves were on, and I mean on! Well over 80 mph, and more importantly I could place them anywhere I wanted to them. I had less than a handful of DFs and my second serves were probably in the 60 mph range. Such serving is a rare occurrence for me. Also, I had the...

Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Babolat Pure Strike VS 2022

With new racquets or grommets, it is a good practice to keep the tension a bit higher than normal with first stringing. The grommets need to set in to the frame. I generally string 2# higher than the target reference tension with new frames/grommets. With this one, I initially strung it up with...

What winning percentage is expected at level before playing up?

Generally, I won't disagree with you on these matters as you have so much more experience than me. However, I think I will disagree with you on this one, just slightly :p The year I got bumped up from 3.5 to 4.0, my win rate wasn't that high at all, as it never is actually. I played up at the...

Glad to be part of this review, I am looking forward to it. Hopefully, the racquet will ship quickly as the reviews are due by June 3. Thank you TW!

    Babolat Pure Strike Tour Club

I tried gut/poly setup as it was my preferred one on the RF97, but did not work for me on the PST as well. When I tried RPM Power, I felt the strings were made for the PST. I really like the combination of the racquet and strings, string them at around 46-47#, very comfortable, controlled, and...

    Babolat Pure Strike Tour Club

There really isn’t such thing as a universal “best” racquet for everyone. Although the Pure Strike, like the ProStaff, is a very good racquet, I am sure it is not for everyone. A doubles partner of mine tried PST, although he liked it, he was playing better with a Pure Drive. I also tried Pure...

Official Babolat Strike VS 2022 thread

I agree with you. When Gen 3 first came out, I did test both the Tour and 18x20 at the same time and wrote a detailed review at that time. I really loved both, coming from RF97. I liked the 18x20 for its slices and volleys, but Tour was so close and had more power with nearly the same level of...

in my experience, excluding the VS - I have not played with, the Tour has the most power, and I don’t think it compromises control for it.

Shall I use a lighter raquet than the RF97A Strung Weight:12.6oz / 357g? My better partner says so...

I think so, at least to some extent. For example, I do have trouble controlling the direction of the ball with racquets that are "too-light" for me, whereas I have better trajectory control with the same type of racquets. With racquets that are "too heavy" for, such as the RF97, I have more...

Shall I use a lighter raquet than the RF97A Strung Weight:12.6oz / 357g? My better partner says so...

I can understand the thinking process by looking at 'numbers.' However, my experience is completely the opposite. The reason I have more accuracy and spin is due to the fact that I am able to generate more RHS. I would ignore the numbers about the PST, test it with your favorite strings and you...

Shall I use a lighter raquet than the RF97A Strung Weight:12.6oz / 357g? My better partner says so...

Silly me, I started playing with the RF97 upon my return to tennis after three decades off as a 3.0. Loved the frame, I went through testing a bunch of strings, settled on natural gut and poly at the end. The frame took me from 3.0 to 4.0 within 2.5 years. After becoming a 4.0, although...

Has it been measured how much tension the RPM blast loses?

    Natural Gut is just great.

Yes, certainly there are few good practices like you mention, which helps with the issues. I used to use VS Touch 17 with RPM Blast at 57/54# setup. I now switched to Pure Strike Tour and using full poly (RPM Power), which I absolutely love. I was having some minor soreness with my natural...

    Natural Gut is just great.

Natural gut is really a superb string, I played with it for many years in my youth. I also first used it with the RF97 between 54-57# and it feels great, initially! The feel, power, and precision of the new natural gut is unmatched in my opinion, well worth the price. However, it frays...

My rating is dropping like a rock

I went through the same thing during the fall season; I think I sustained 25 losses and maybe 11-12 wins. Really depressing. I hope you don't go through this as badly as I have, but even if you do, it turns around. Something clicks, something changes, and things turn around for sure without a...

    "Spin" Racquets

I am still to write my review, which I haven't completed yet, and a detail review would derail this thread. Let me just share few quick notes: I am an impatient 4.0 power player. I primarily rely on my serve and FH and try to play a game style to finish points within 5 total shots. I mostly play...

    "Spin" Racquets

I am a stringer, and yes I used same strings at same tension; RPM Power 17, 48#. However, I found that using RPM Blast 17 in the mains at 48# and VS Touch 16 at 50# for the crosses worked a lot better from a power/control perspectives with the Pure Aero VS.

    "Spin" Racquets

I have been using Pure Strike Tour (PST, 3rd gen) since it came out and it is a near-perfect fit for my game. Recently I received a pair of Pure Aero VS frames to test. I have enjoyed these frames tremendously for the sheer fact that without changing my technique on FH, BH or Volleys, I get...

Best memories from playing USTA Leagues

I may remember some details incorrectly, but here it goes: We are at the Regionals, I think I lost our doubles match in the morning, so I am feeling pretty bad. In the afternoon the weather is getting really bad, over 100 deg. and very high humidity, it is tough to even breath normally, and I...

    Where is the sweet spot?

I have seen so few singles players that are also competent in doubles frankly, and vice versa too. I am referencing specifically players who are really dedicated to singles and only play doubles due to lack of leagues with singles line, which happens during winter seasons within USTA.

    Where is the sweet spot?

I am at 4.0 level, and I think it is the best of everything: I can play 4.0, 4.5, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 men's and mxd, and all levels of tri-level leagues. So many options :). I do not see 4.5s getting that many options in my area and certainly not the 5.0s. The 3.5s cannot play in 8.5 or 4.5 leagues...

Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Babolat Pure Strike (16x19, 18x20, Tour) 3rd Gen Playtest

I am not sure how you got the impression about this statement, but in my experience it is no different than any other brand. More than 15 Pure Strikes crossed my hands since the 3rd Gen release, all of them were within 1-2 gm weight and 1-2 mm balance difference from one another. I would not...
