Over 50 Using Control Racquet effectively

Just turned 55. Been playing with Prince 93P for a year, but as a birthday present to myself ordered 2 RF97's after hitting with my coach's and falling in love with it. Still keeping the 93P's though, they're just so sweet-hitting.

Prince Phantom 97P Review / Discussion

I will add a few thoughts after a first hit today with the 97P. Just got it a couple of days ago, and had TW string it with ALU Power silver 16L at 48/46. Hitting session with my coach for an hour; it was about 50 degrees F in Arkansas today. Session was warmup rallies, crosscourt forehand...

Prince Phantom 93P- Best string set up

What gauge are you playing in the WeissCannon Scorpion? I'm curious to try this string.

Pro Staff 85 vs Pro Staff 97 Black

I'm probably sounding like a Prince evangelist now, but 93P 18x20. I moved from PS97 to that and haven't looked back.

    Pro Staff Advice

I've played (and still have) both versions. The non-cv feels more "connected," that is true; I would say a little "crisper" feeling. However, I played with the cv black version and enjoyed it. Added lead to both versions to bring the static weight up to near RF97 mass, and in a flexier...

Sand down sharp bevel edges (prince)

The bevels ARE sharp on the 93P, which comes stock with the leather grip. @satish.r I use Tourna MegaTac overgrips and they smooth out the bevels a lot, at least for the first couple of matches.

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

This 97 model better not be any good, lol. I just bought 2 of the 93P a couple of months ago; I thought the Phantom 100's were a little bulky and figured these were the best sticks for my game. Or, maybe 93P for singles, "97P" for doubles? Here I go again...

Haven't played for years till now - Need help in finding a new player's racquet

This is of course unsolicited advice, but I wouldn't worry too much about being able to swing a heavier stick, especially if you're doing strength training. Some of those listed above are fairly headlight and will swing much easier than the static weight would indicate. I've got 17 years on...

Wilson Pro Staff 97 vs Pro Staff 97 Countervail

A lot of people on here dislike the countervail version, although I enjoyed playing with them. They definitely feel more muted than the regular 97, which suited me when I was recovering from tennis elbow. With enough weight added, I thought they felt like a softer version of the RF97. You do...

The Prince Phantom 93P is a gift to us from TW - My Review/AMA

I found no issue with the 18x20 on clay. If it's a question of spin and dropping the ball inside the lines, I personally find I can generate plenty of spin with the 18x20. Having played both patterns in my last demo, I chose the 18x20 because it's so versatile: either a lot of topspin, driving...

Tennis Warehouse: Kirschbaum Xplosive Speed playtest!!

Great review. Your comments about forehand vs backhand almost exactly matched my experience with the string. Just bought and strung a pack of 18G at a higher tension than my playtest and eager to see if it reigns the power in a little.

Prince Phantom 93P- Best string set up

I tried Xcel at 55 and felt it should have been higher. The demo I tried had PPC at 57lb, which I initially thought was going to feel like a skillet, but actually felt and played really good. As soft as Velocity is, I'd say on the higher end of tension.

Tennis Warehouse: Kirschbaum Xplosive Speed playtest!!

Short story: great string that might unseat Hyper-G after I try it in 18g. In this review, I'll be comparing the two strings directly. Unfortunately, only got 4 hours of good playtime in, but twisted my knee and need to lay off for a bit. Tension(s) used for playtest: 45 lb Regular string...

Compare Prince Phantom 93p(s) to Tour Diablo Mid?

Personal opinion: I'd face off the 93P 18x20 versus the 14x18. The Ultra Tour is pretty light in stock form, maybe put the 93P 18x20 in its place? I also tried the RF97 a couple of years ago and liked it a lot, but could feel the stiffness and it didn't work for me. I demo'd both string...

Prince Phantom 93P- Best string set up

Okay, I'm ordering a 93P after this weekend. I won a Fast 4 tournament 50+ division with the TW demo racquet and the PPC stringbed. Awesome groundstrokes and serve placement was impeccable. I want to order pre-strung with Hyper-G 18, but what tension should I start with? I currently use...

Prince Phantom 93P- Best string set up

Wow, y'all are making me wonder how good it can get with the right stringbed! I've got a demo 18x20 from TW right now with what the sticker says is Prince Premier Control at 57(!) lbs and it plays and serves wonderfully. If a good poly or hybrid is even better, then I'm sold...

    Tennis Warehouse: Tourna co-polyester PLAYTEST!

Thanks for the kind words, I was wondering if tighter might have worked better. I did let it settle on the weight quite a bit while stringing, so pretty confident the tension was accurate, but I bet you're correct that it would require a lot of experimentation. Luckily I didn't put it on my...

    Tennis Warehouse: Tourna co-polyester PLAYTEST!

What string did you receive? Tourna Deuce 17 Tension(s) used for playtest 50lb mains, 46lb crosses on an Alpha Pioneer. I had hand-stretched briefly, but felt like there was still a lot of stretch once I put it on the drop-weight. I will say it was very easy to weave, especially getting into...

How far do you drive in order to play?

45 minutes to tournament location this weekend. Last week I played a league match that was a 50 minute drive to/from. All in the Little Rock metro area; I live north of town but the facilities are spread all over the place. Local practice is at my high school public courts, since the closest...

    TRU PRO Ghostwire

I'm loving Hyper G at 48/46 in my PS97 right now. Very comfortable and great spin. Any idea how Firewire/Ghost hybrid would compare? The Hyper G feels very low powered, which is great most of the time for aggressive cuts at the ball, but a disadvantage on the run/defending. I could use a...

Which Oakley flak 2.0 XL lense is best for tennis?

Prizm work well for tennis, I have the Flak 2.0 with them and the ball is highly visible. I'm susceptible to glare post-PRK and these help a lot.

    Lost to Pusher/Windy Day

Man, this shoulder turn awareness is superb advice against ANY level of player. I routinely get burned by the 4.5 I play with for this very reason. Along with "moving in when they turn away to chase down a shot," this is a great tactic for taking charge of a point.

Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Wilson Rush Pro 3.0 Shoes

Thanks, I was hoping the width would be about the same, since my feet fit perfectly in the Kaos, and I really like the stability. The breathable design of the rush pro made me want to try it, since the Kaos can get pretty hot, especially in my preferred black/red. I'll wait for the 3.0 reviews...

Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Wilson Rush Pro 3.0 Shoes

Can anyone compare Rush Pros with the Kaos? I still have two new in box pairs Kaos "version 1.5" I got on clearance before they were discontinued, so not in a rush (sorry), just curious how the two types compare.

    Pro Staff 97CV customization

I didn't like lead on the hoop when weighting mine up. It felt more head heavy than I like, and I felt I had to slow my serve swing down to keep from hurting myself. Once I moved the lead downward it felt much better. Both of mine are at 349g static with lead tape at the V in the throat, and...

    PS97CV Poly Recs...

Haven't tried full bed Cyclone 17, but I've got it in hybrid with Head Velocity. Cyclone mains 52 and Velocity crosses at 55. I like the comfort and feel, and still going strong after a month in both frames. May try full bed though to see if I can get some more spin, plus I HATE stringing...

    USTA Georgia

Well I now have a question about location suitability. I was in Mobile and Saturday was the worst heat index I've ever played in. I watched a LA guy get stretchered off, numerous IV drips at the main facility, and nearly called a teammate to drive me to the hospital that night because I was so...
