Puerto Rico USTA teams are epic sandbaggers

My experience I'm not sure how relevant this information is because it's dated but when I was assigned to PR back in the mid-90's, I was recruited to play on a 3.5 USTA team even though I played in college. The local USTA official had a team and set up a rating review from his fellow USTA...

    Rotator Cuff Symptoms Before Surgery

It was the combination of pain when I had to suddenly raise my arm above shoulder height and loss of strength in my shoulder. It got to the point where I couldn't lift my arm to put on a shirt.

    Most cushioned & supportive shoes?

Prince T-22 These remain the most cushioned shoes I've tried. Currently using last year's Babolat and they don't compare to the T-22. I'm switching back once these wear out.

Tennis slumps and how to handle them :/

My "slumps" always seem to be related to how I am feeling physically and how that relates to my confidence. Last league season I started in great shape and played well. As the season wore on and the number of matches piled up, I felt my strength and conditioning slipping and I lost confidence...

    "Move In!" - Doubles Topic

My experience from 4.5 sectionals I played three 4.5 matches at #2 doubles this past weekend at Sectionals. Whether a team serves and volleyed depended on their comfort at net. Most of the players were average volleyers and did not serve and volley. But all looked to come it on approach...

    Playing on multiple teams

Honestly, this is what I expected. I heard players had to commit to a single team for districts. Not sure why I figured this would apply to all districts. I'm actually amazed that players have time to play multiple leagues. Some of these guys play mixed doubles in addition to multiple...

    Playing on multiple teams

After a fairly competitive season, my team advanced to the districts. A first for me. To my surprise, I see many guys from my league at districts who qualified from different leagues. Well, we managed to squeak by to qualify for sections. Today I find out some of those players who we beat in...

    Sciatic Nerve Issues

I've had back and sciatic nerve pain for decades from bulging discs. I gained relief from multiple chiro visits and after implementing a core strengthening program. It still gets sore but not in a dehabilitating way. If you have inflammation in the area causing the pain, my experience has...

Hitting Ball Back on Long Serve

I agree, I normally hit the balls into the net if I know it is out or pop them up on double faults--- but not much you can do if you are simply reacting and calling a serve out as you are returning the ball but I find that is rare. Normally, to call a serve out and hit it back as a normal...

So I was watching the Klippermate commercial on Tennis Channel...

What I thought I agree with the consensus that stringing while sitting definitely slows down the process. I find myself moving all around my stringer (during the crosses) to speed up the weave. Oh well, I was hoping there was some sort of special seat someone found that would work. Thanks.

So I was watching the Klippermate commercial on Tennis Channel...

You know the one with the kid stringing at the table. I was wondering if anyone strings racquets while sitting. I've never tried it even when I owned a tabletop stringer. But I do get tired sometimes and wish there was a way to rest my legs while stringing.

    4 star tennis academy Virginia

Both 4-Star and Fairfax Racquet Club have produced some decent players. 4-Star requires a player evaluation if you want to place a junior in the higher level clinics. Space used to be limited a few years ago. They have a fairly decent 7 day a week summer program for a reasonable price.

    Technifibre syn gut?

Durability issues My 12-yr old daughter used to pop these strings regularly. I thought it was a bargain because TF was less expensive than PSG but, in the end, I think it cost us more. I strung one customer's racquet with the stuff and it popped after one session. It's possible I simply...

    Semi private lessons

I prefer semi-private lessons I actually take 1.5 hr semi private lessons with 2 others. This gives an opportunity to play some 2 on 1 drills and 2 on 2 drills with the pro. We alternate between multiple ball drills and points drills to allow for recovery. If I needed work on a specific part...

    "helicopter" parents and non-academic kids

Good Essay One of the challeges of being a parent is balancing how much to push your kids "for their own good" vs letting them be themselves. I struggle with it constantly and it's nice to see I'm not alone.

So, I'm a crazy tennis parent?

IMO, you're only "crazy" if you are the one pushing the child to play those hours. If the child is the one requesting to play, you are simply making the child happy. As the parent, as long as you are maintaining a healthy balance between tennis and other life activities for the child, you are...

    Shoulder Bursitis?

Yes, rest. If you keep playing you run the risk of further damaging your shoulder. Take it from someone who ended up having to have shoulder surgery after college because I never fully allowed it to heal. Lots of cortisone shots and other treatments did not solve the problem.

I want to bring my game to the next level, what should I work on?

Footwork I realize you are hitting against the wall but it appears you are flatfooted. Besides the other things mentioned, to reach the next level you will definitely need to be quicker on your feet.

Gym Workouts: How do they affect your game?

I didn't answer your second question It is definitely better for me. When I'm lifting, I feel much stronger and rarely suffer the minor muscle strains that I seem to be always getting when I'm not lifting. I agree with the comment regarding the type of lifting impacting your game. When I...
