    Best shoe for ankle support?

I just got my Nike Kyrie 7s almost a month ago for the reason you are looking and I am loving them. Plenty of ankle support. I really couldn't be happier. If you do the custom build route, you can get them with Nike's outdoor sole, which has been very durable thus far.

Andy Roddick used ankle braces on both ankles.

I think there is quite a bit of difference between ankle braces and ankle support. I wear two ankle "sleeves" that are basically compression sleeves that start at the mid arch of my foot, and go to about 3 inches above my ankle. Then there are also velcro straps that you cross and wrap around...

I'm short, so this is basically just my forehand a lot of the time lol.

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Thank you, Traveler! I keep getting told I have to try gut, have to try gut, have to try gut. So I am finally gonna try gut. I will probably just go full bed at 55lbs... I honestly do not see myself liking it. Which I realize discussing natural gut here is a bit off topic, so I will bring it...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Has anyone tried Natural Gut mains with Zyex Crosses? If so at what tensions? Does the string bed stay unlocked? Will the Zyex cut through the Gut a lot quicker than if I just did a full bed of Natural Gut?

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

I am curious what other configurations people have tried the Zyex in? Right now, i've got a gen 2 Pure Strike 100, Blade 104 v7, and a Pro Staff v13 all strung exactly the same with Kevlar mains at 60 and Zyex crosses at 40. I love this combo in the Pure Strike and the Blade. It absolutely fits...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

On this day I am thankful- among many other things, for the folks who discovered this string and did all the research so I could piggy back off of them. I haven't been playing tennis for a while, but I sort of felt like I hit a "soft cap" of development. I also hadn't felt like I found my ideal...

    Surge of beginner adult players!

Nope, no masks on the court. It was 13 people spread across 3 courts, so I was good with it. Temperature check and mask required when entering the club, but as soon as you are on the courts you can take the mask off. And they've got tons of hand sanitizers in the play area.

    Surge of beginner adult players!

I signed up for my first ever 3.0-3.5 drill session that takes place once a week. I was expecting 5-6 people in the class, but to my surprise there were about 12 others aside from myself. It is great. I just wish I could play more than once a week.

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Haha, I imagine that swing as if Nadal had a one handed backhand, that's what it would look like. And yeah, Slowtwitcher- that is my only thought. I think unless I am really digging into the string bed every single stroke, I wasn't getting the same amount of bite on the ball, which was...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

I finally strung up my second gen Pure Strike 100 16x19 and the Blade 104 v7 exactly the same with Ashaway Kevlar 16, and ZX Pro 17 at 62 and 42lbs with a manual prestretch on the ZX Pro. Unfortunately after hitting with both, I don't think I am good enough to really tell a huge difference. But...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

I am just regurgitating others, but I think with the monogut, you are better off doing a manual prestretch and stringing right after. However, I personally don't see how it is difficult or higher risk of breakage to string if you are putting it in with a lowish tension.

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

I think that is a very accurate description. Rocket launch isn't quite right. I will be getting my reels soon, so I will be able to try out combo in the Pure Strike and see how it feels soon enough. If it feels obviously different in a bad way with the Pure Strike, i'll probably just get another...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Yep, that is good to hear. I ended up saying screw the Kevlar Plus and just got a mini reel of Standard 16g Kevlar. I figure if the very same people who came up with this combo are recommending the standard Kevlar over the Plus, I will listen to the magical internet folks despite what my...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Yeah, I figure "slickness" between colors is purely anecdotal experience unless Ashaway actually made a statement of some sort. The biggest thing is- you experienced no additional negative effects of the black over the natural color that you could tell?

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Just for forum thoroughness, in case anyone else is looking for the answers I just posed- I dug back through this thread and read a little more and it sounds (not through my own experiences) like the thicker 16g Kevlar simply lasts longer than the 17 Kevlar Plus with no discernable difference in...

What to expect from joining a club?

I just had my first experience last night at a drill session of the club in a 3.0-3.5 group. It was a ton of fun. I will definitely be signing up regularly each week and continue to get a good idea of what the club is all about. From what I can tell, it definitely appears to be tennis focused...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Awesome, thank you for the help! What reasoning do the knowledgeable folks have for going for the more firm 16g Kevlar rather than the softer, more thin Kevlar Plus 17g? I haven't had any issue breaking strings, so was planning on the Kevlar Plus 17g. Also because that is what is in the...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

So I am looking into ordering a reel of the Kevlar Plus and a reel of the Monogut ZX Pro. On tennis warehouse I am only seeing the ZX Pro 17 gauge in black available in a reel. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any performance differences? The combo pack I bought and used had the...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Yep, while going through the history of this forum, I think I saw enough evidence to try the 60lb main 40lb cross with a prestretch, and I am very glad I did. Reading some of the more recent comments though, I don't think I prestretched the Zyex enough. If you can actually get an additional 2...

Tips for not destroying the body on hardcourt?

Since i've gotten a little bit older, I have developed shin splints pretty bad when playing things like tennis or basketball on a hard court. I can do any other high intensity activity and not feel any pain at all, but something about the quick, high energy starting and stopping on a hard court...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

I got to hit with a freshly strung Crossfire ZX combo in a totally stock Blade 104 v7. I strung it at 60lb main and 40lb crosses using a drop weight stringer, and manually prestretched just the Zyex. I absolutely loved this setup the first time out. I am not a super experienced player, but the...

What to expect from joining a club?

I really appreciate everyone's input. I think I will go ahead and sign up for a few of the classes and clinics and maybe even do a private or group lesson to get a feel for the place. One more question- when signing up for these classes, they list different times for different level players...

What to expect from joining a club?

Hello all! I am generally new to the sport. I am 30 years old and started playing on and off quite a bit about 3 years ago. The one thing I am finding difficult with this sport is, I could want to play upwards of 5 times a week... But I am not really sure how to go about actually doing that...
