Wilson tennis is stuck in the past.. Adjust or keep losing market share!

I have the 2021 version and I don’t like the feel. I don’t feel as connected to the ball.

Wilson tennis is stuck in the past.. Adjust or keep losing market share!

The PS X and the Blade 100 v9 (with leather grip), both played with overgrips are IMO by far the 2 best rackets for intermediate rec players. Anyone 4.0 and above should give them a demo! I’m glad I have these options amongst the sea of dampened, soft, muted modern frames from Yonex or Head.

What kind of opponents bring out your best tennis?

Definitely players who hit with the same pace and rhythm as myself. I can then deploy my most natural swing speed and get into a groove and strike the ball really well. In terms of match-ups and easy wins, players who hit spinny ground strokes with no depth, i.e typically landing 2 feet past...

Do racquets get stiff or soft over time?

They will get softer, especially with extended use and/or regular re-stringing.

My Kirschbaum String Experiments and Reviews

Thanks! I’ve been using natural colour. Could you describe pro line II and evolution in relation to max power? These were the 2 polys that I had considered trying in full bed, as I generally prefer round strings or at least not too sharp (more than 6-sided) as I don’t like how the string bed...

My Kirschbaum String Experiments and Reviews

@M Pillai thanks for starting this thread, looking forward to your detailed reviews. I’ve tried 3 Kirschbaum offerings so far, starting with Max Power 1.25, then Syn Gut 1.30, then Max Power Rough 1.25. I mainly play gut/poly hybrid but for wet weather I’ve been experimenting with full poly or...

    Share your Match video!!

Unfortunately, it only takes a gentle breeze for the trees surrounding the court to shed its leaves. We try our best to sweep before the session but it’s tough to keep the grounds clean. Thankfully it’s not as slippery to be a significant hazard. I would say a bad bounce off a leaf or twig...

often said 'you only get better by playing better players', is it true:?))

If I were to break it down to percentages, I’ll keep the mix to this: 10% too good for me (i.e typically beaten 0, 1, or 2) 10% too good for opponent (as above) 30% slightly better than me (i.e. typically beaten 3 or 4) 20% slightly better than opponent 30% evenly matched

    Share your Match video!!

Had one of my better tennis days, good 1st serve in %, not too many UEs, nice point construction, and relatively better net game. Started really well but at 5-1, intensity dropped as it was hard to keep it up in the mid day tropical heat against an opponent 10 years younger. Thankfully managed...

Agree. Not much practice if you’re not getting the racket on the ball. Otherwise, yes, it will accelerate your progress quite a bit.

    SwingVision: Current Problems with Videos

That is a gd point. I hope SwingVision takes it on board. Yeah, they’ve been saying that they are working on dual camera functionality, not sure what is taking so long. Like you’ve pointed out, the easy progression is to link 2 users’ inputs. Maybe live processing would be challenging. But at...

Ah yes, that was my understanding too. I think that’s fair, since they are effectively free users.

    Wilson Pro Staff V14.0

If you love the 6.0 95, why not stick with it? If you swap out the leather for a synthetic grip, the static and balance would be similar to a PS 97. The SW would be lower so you lose some plow but gain RHS. The thinner beam provides better feel too. I ask because I used to main the 6.0 95 but...

    SwingVision: Current Problems with Videos

I’m a pro user and had always assumed people I tag would be able to see the stats and filter the video. Could you share more detail about what these folks actually get to see? I’ve been told that they only get access for a month.

    Wilson Blade V9 2024

TWU is a great resource, but I’ve come to realise that the sweet spot size numbers are dependent on head size and SW based on the metric they use. So they should only be used to compare rackets with the same head size and similar SW. and even then, the sweat spot size isn’t always reflective of...

    Wilson Blade V9 2024

Fair enough. All who have taken an interest in racket specs has been on the journey before. My advice would be to have some goals in mind to structure the experimentation. At this exploratory stage, perhaps try and understand your racket spec preferences. And I would evaluate based on your feel...

    Wilson Blade V9 2024

@RobManser it was rather difficult to follow, but here’s my thoughts to your question on why to you the 98 v9 feels more powerful than the 100 v8. Firstly, the higher SW on your 98 is definitely a significant factor, particularly because the static weight and balance of both rackets are...

Wilson Pro Staff X V14 Thread

I would definitely demo the Blade 100 v9 specifically, I can’t vouch for the previous Blade 100s. I too have been searching for a lighter PS X, but more so to see if I can gain more RHS and racket mobility than fatigue whilst retaining what I love the PS X brings. It is early days for myself...

Swing Vision AI line calls and Analysis

I experience this occasionally with my 13 mini, sometimes while the pie chart timer is progressing, sometimes when I click “begin processing”. But have always been able to eventually import the video. Usually, by the 2nd attempt and the import will be quick - immediately goes to the “begin...

Best 100 sq. Inch racquet with stiffness around 66?

I assume you prefer a firmer frame? If so, I would not recommend the CX 400 Tour. I recently tried it and it played more dampened than its RA suggests. I’ve been using the PS X and it’s definitely worth trying. I recently tried the Blade 100 v9 and it’s great too! Despite having an RA of 60, it...

Moving to natgut - Raise tension a bit?

Gut/poly is nothing like full poly and agree with the rest that it offers better performance than full gut. I would also strongly recommend a gut main, poly cross hybrid!

Moving to natgut - Raise tension a bit?

I would raise tension by 10-20%.

    non-poly, non−gut mains/smooth poly crosses review thread

Thanks for the recommendations in both threads! To clarify, Velocity didn’t break in 2.5hrs. I just haven’t hit with it as much ☺️. Performance and feel wise it wasn’t all that bad, just not as great as AK Pro CX or Quasi-gut Armor. I’ll probably play it till breaks just so I don’t waste the...

    non-poly, non−gut mains/smooth poly crosses review thread

Gut/poly user here but still in search of a secondary string setup for wet weather or when my gut snaps mid session. Have shared my non-poly main, poly cross experiences here a few times. Most recently, I tested AK Pro CX and Velocity (natural) in matched rackets, same tension. Both in 1.30mm...

Anyone tried Gosen AK Pro CX yet?

I tried CX 1.25mm in a full bed couple of years ago and the string made a good impression. But didn’t like it in a full bed due to the locking up. Agree that the slick coating doesn’t last and changes how the string plays once it wears off. I just clocked nearly 23 hrs of singles play with a CX...

Replacing just poly in a gutMpolyX setup

I tried this a couple of times but gave up because: I don’t string myself and it was difficult finding a stringer willing to change only the crosses. I had stringers who initially agreed then declined further jobs citing that it wasn’t worth their time. Changing the crosses didn’t extend the...

[Poll] When should tennis shoes be replaced?

Yeah, that’s my biggest learning point from starting this thread. Looking back, there were subtle signs that I didn’t pick up on. For example, legs feeling surprisingly sore when the session didn’t feel that intense. I didn’t make the connection to the shoes and just assumed I wasn’t hydrated...

RC/GW in a 100sq at low 40s lbs did not feel boardy, but I didn’t find Lynx Tour boardy either. RC/GW is definitely softer and less plasticky feeling.
