    Teaching pros/rules guru question

Keep up with the conversation. We are talking about a ball spinning back over the net, not about all situations in which a ball touches the net.

    Teaching pros/rules guru question

The point ends as soon as you hit the ball into the net. The opposing team isn't required to have an opportunity to have a play on the ball. It's just considered a winner. Also, keep in mind that their "opportunity" is that you have to be able to reach over the net (without touching it) and...

    DQ without default?

Looks like the match was played last year. If that's the case, the match results wouldn't be reversed.

    American Greed-Usta style part 2

NC has had this rule for several years. At first, I didn't agree with it, until I spent several hundred dollars to attend a state championship out of town and had the opposing team default a court that I was supposed to play. Very frustrating. The powers that be in NC have said that the number...

No bump up with 100% winning record?

"What gets you to sectionals, districts, etc., is your win-loss record--period." What gets you there is your team's win/loss record, not your individual win/loss record. Your NTRP rating is your individual rating, not a team rating.

    USTA - Adult League/Age changes - DON'T LIKE IT

Don't agree with any of your arguments. Let me outline my reasons why: 1. 18-39 year olds currently are only able to play once as it is. This isn't limiting your ability to play nor your opportunities to play due to the age restructuring. It is adding opportunities for the 40-49 year...

    Getting Disqualified (DQ'd)

Doesnt' sounds sketchy. He probably received his 3rd strike from that match and when the computer ran the ratings that night, he was issue his dq the next day. A grievance would have taken a lot longer than just a few hours, no matter who filed it.

usta needs to change rule about players being able to play on 2 teams in the same div

If it was the Southern Section, a player would need to choose which team they are playing on at Sectionals. They aren't allowed to play on two teams at the same level.

    States not until next May?

Is this an Early Start League? If so, you are actually playing in a 2013 league and would need to wait for the State Championships until after the regular 2013 spring leagues. Is there not a playoff between the 2 leagues or do the winners of both leagues get to attend the State Championships?

lol, here's another lovely abuse of the system

What he failed to mention is that not only is the player subject to disqualification, but also self-rate grievances. I'm sure that if someone filed a grievance and used the rule and the player's prior rating as evidence, it would be upheld. Just need someone to try it.

    Southern Sectionals Combo?

Because Combo (Southern Combo League) is a Southern program, not a National one.

    American Greed(USTA style)

2.02A(1)a Two-Team Leagues. If a local league holds two seasons at a specific level, they must have a minimum of three teams participating in one of the two seasons at that level to receive two berths to the State Championships. Two team leagues in both seasons will only receive one berth to the...

    American Greed(USTA style)

Just out of curiosity...Do the local and/or state regulations for this league address this situation? If they do, can't blame USTA for ignorance of the rules.

It is in the Southern section. Combo, too.

    Question?

No, you cannot. With 3 spring league matches, you should have generated a year-end computer rating, which means that you are not eligible to self rate. Since you are over age 60, your computer rating will be good for only 2 years instead of 3 years and your automatic appeal range is .1 instead...

    The Unfixable Self-Rate Error

The computer may not look at her dynamic rating during the self-rate process, but, the appeal committee does. That is probably why she was denied her appeal.

    The Unfixable Self-Rate Error

Just an FYI...they did change the questions to the self rate questionnaire a year or two ago, along with the minimum ratings. It is possible that the same answers will get you a higher rating now than they would have previously.

    Medical appeal

Don't waste your time. Your appeal will be denied. It is not considered an appealable (permanently disabling) condition.

That was the worst run tournament

Sorry that you had such a bad experience. I would either contact the tournament director or your state USTA sanctioning coordinator. USTA itself doesn't have anything to do with the court conditions, lack of food, scores, etc. as that is all on the tournament director. In addition, USTA does...

    The Unfixable Self-Rate Error

Her appeal was denied. The appeals committee wrote, "[b]ecause you have played 4.0 and your dynamic rating is above the 3.5 level, your appeal has been denied. Your rating will remain 4.0." This means she cannot play on my 3.5 team. Seems to me you have your answer. Because she was self-rate...

    USTA adult league team "coach"??

I've only seen it in the lower level leagues, usually 2.5 or maybe 3.0. It's great for new captains and players to have a mentor and learn the ropes.

USTA Restructuring leagues in 2013 ?

It is a done deal. Current leagues are already divided by age...Adult is 18+, Senior is 50+ and Super Senior is 60+. They are only moving the age minimums down and re-naming the leagues. They will now be 18+, 40+ and 55+. Southern Section will still have a 70+ league as well. NTRP ratings...

Is there really a 6 or more matches appeal auto-deny rule?

Let your state league coordinator know who the player is. It will be corrected. If you play Adult, Senior and/or Super Senior, those are the only league matches that are counted. In that case, Mixed, Combo, Tri-Level, Flex, Singles and any other leagues do not count. Tournament matches...

Is there really a 6 or more matches appeal auto-deny rule?

The 6 match rule is a national rule and is in effect in the Southern section, too. The 6 matches must be against players with a dynamic rating and include matches played in the Adult, Senior and Super Senior leagues. Players that were ineligible to appeal due to this rule, but had a successful...

    USTA League Registration Fee

In our section none of the registration fees go to either the national or sectional offices. A small portion goes to the state office and the balance goes to the local CTA. In addition, it is the local area that sets the league fee.

    USTA NTRP Rating / Ranking

You will be able to self-rate again in January. Your year-end computer rating is good for 3 calendar years (2 years for 60+ players). If you have a year-end 2007 rating, it is good for 2008, 2009 and 2010 play. You will be stuck at the 4.0 level, though, as beginning in 2011, self-rates will...
