    Points off a pro

A friend of mine has a son that plays for a D1 mid-major. He usually plays #4 or #5 singles. I can get a few points off him, but no games (when he's actually trying). I'm a good 4.5 / weak 5.0. When he plays a top D1 player he struggles to win games. Safe to say, there is no way a 4.5 or 5.0...

Biggest age gap win or loss you've ever had

I'm 55. I play 95% singles, and most of my opponents are younger than I am. Not sure exact ages in all cases, but I've both won and lost many times against guys in their early 20's. I've beaten some D3 players fairly recently, lost some too, and also have been utterly demolished by some D1...

    ATP Finals 2024 - Turin

Is that correct? Because if Med beats sinner 2-1, it leaves Sinner 5-2 in sets, and Med and Fritz 4-3. And then does not the following apply? (Taken from ATP finals web site): "Comment 4: 3 players have 2 wins and the other player has 0 wins. The player with 0 wins is eliminated. Of the 3...

    should I be feeling guilty?

Yes, all else being equal. However, when the average shot speed is 25mph, maybe not.

    should I be feeling guilty?

Then stick to 10.0 mixed for tennis, and then to satisfy your "interesting strategy" cravings, go learn chess or something!

    should I be feeling guilty?

If you enjoy playing imbalanced pseudo tennis, then nothing wrong with what you're doing. Although I do question your taste. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with mixed, it's the imbalance I object to. Man up and go play 10.0 mixed with a 5.5 lady partner, that will be a lot more balanced.

6 of my top ten players out with injuries from playing pickleball

I'm a bit younger and still playing tennis singles, but have come to the exact same conclusion. Once I have to give up tennis singles, I'm transitioning to PB full time.

    1st Serve, right?

Only way this makes sense is if Team B actually called the 1st serve out while 'returning' it. Perhaps bystanders did not notice that and assumed ball was live. Since 1st serve was fault it would then be a judgement call as to whether to award another 1st as already mentioned.

6 of my top ten players out with injuries from playing pickleball

Tennis players like to joke about PB not being physical, but the reality is that decent level PB is more physically demanding than tennis dubs (but of course less so than tennis singles).

Road Tennis….unlike Pickle it requires athleticism and doesn’t infringe on our Tennis Courts

Me too, but I wouldn't compare it to tennis. Actually I think PB is somewhat of a cross between tennis and table tennis. Considering equipment and technique and athleticism.

How is still Sinner ranked no 1?

If you look at just their slam + masters + WTF points over the last 52 weeks, they are really close. Possibly Alcaraz slightly ahead (too lazy to do the math). But Sinner cleaned up in the smaller tournaments - he has 4 500-level wins over the last 12 months. And that's why he's currently #1...

How Would You Handle This Situation

It's a matter of timing I guess. If I were in your opponents' shoes, and I noticed the ball dangerously close to you before you did, I would call a let. But if by the time I noticed it you had noticed it also, I would not.

How Would You Handle This Situation

Disagree, in the situation as described. Generally I agree. If there is a stray ball on my opponent's side that is a potential hazard to one (or both) of them, and that person has not noticed the ball, then I would call a let in the interest of safety. However if my opponent is aware of the...

How Would You Handle This Situation

It is irrelevant what you believed. Were you correct in not calling the let? Well that's a slightly different question... If you felt you were in danger of stepping on the ball and hurting yourself, you should have stopped play. Not hurting yourself is more important than a point. Had you...

How Would You Handle This Situation

Since you were playing a USTA match I am responding with USTA rules. Not sure if IFT and other organizations would be the same. 1. Yes, any player on the court may call a let if a ball from another court enters your court, assuming you are hindered by it or think it could become a hindrance...

What’s a little tactic / thing you use to gain a slight advantage?

During the warmup I stun my opponent with hard flat serves, kickers, slices out wide... a full arsenal of awesomeness. Then first couple service points of the match I double fault. Gets the opponent all complacent again which is right how I want them.

How does pre stretch amount affect playability (e.g., 10% vs 20%)

This was sounding interesting, until I realized... I don't have a shed

How does pre stretch amount affect playability (e.g., 10% vs 20%)

Appreciate you taking the time providing all the details... For the experiment above, were you measuring DT right after stringing? What would be very interesting to know is the DT in each case after a couple hours of hitting. Any guesses? To use your numbers for my use case, let's say I'm...

How does pre stretch amount affect playability (e.g., 10% vs 20%)

Thanks... Yes I agree about how it currently feels with no prestretch... I've opted for better long term feel at the expense of a few hours of break in. At lower tension than 47 it feels better initially, but then I have to cut out after a few hours. 44-45 lbs or so after prestretch sounds...

How does pre stretch amount affect playability (e.g., 10% vs 20%)

@ryohazuki222 interesting thread and makes me wonder if I can benefit from your experiments and experience... I'm a 4.5 / 5.0 player using an EZT with hyper-g @ 47lbs. I'm not a string breaker and get about 15 hours. I don't like the feel when the strings are fresh - takes maybe 2-3 hours...

    Finally USTA wakes up

Completely agree, and this is the reason for all the animosity. Where I am, there is no issue... most of the newer developments have both tennis and PB courts, the tennis courts are mostly green clay, the PB courts are hard courts. And everyone is happy.

    Finally USTA wakes up

Yeah sorry typo. Yes tennis has a high barrier to entry, but, it's not like this fact is a sudden surprise. USTA could have been doing something about it starting years ago. Maybe if they had thought of RB for adults a couple decades ago and promoted it well, there would be no PB today and RB...

    Finally USTA wakes up

Maybe, but not likely. What makes PB popular is that it's easy to pick up, not just in terms of the mechanics of playing the game, but also in terms of finding people to play with. Possible that USTA can grow PB along similar lines, but let's be honest, who would trust USTA to not mess it up...

    Finally USTA wakes up

Not so sure. RB uses even smaller court than PB. And 23 inch racquet vs PB paddle 16 inch. So greater reach + smaller court means even less movement required for RB vs PB.

    Red Ball Tennis

Well I just looked it up: 78' x 27' - Standard tennis court (singles), for reference 44' x 20' - Pickleball court 36' x 18' - Red ball "tennis" court So this sucker is even smaller than a PB court! I guess if you want to really challenge yourself, you can play on a "huge" PB court, ya know...
