    Breaking strin...no wait shoelaces

My son snaps his laces in a set of tennis. He always has extra shoe laces in his bag. It it is not the tails of the laces but the actual lace itself snaps at the eyelet. He also completely destroys the of each shoe and by the end of a match the shoe is shredded from the color to the rubber...

Dude you look fantastic!!!!! Keep at it! I still do not have clearance after my knee surgery to hit until April although I plan on cheating with some light straight ahead hitting the week after next while traveling with my son's college team on their Spring break trip. It will be the first...

    The gut/poly thread

Babolat VS 16G 53 / Poly Tour Fire 17G 47 performs great for me for a couple of months playing 4 times a week but I am not a string breaker. At about 2 months it does feel like it has lost it's mojo and it is time to restring.

Jannik Sinner joins Nastase: 40 weeks as world number 1

Are we talking doper Sinner or pre-doper Sinner? Pre-doper Sinner isn't beating any of his current top 10 on a consistent basis let alone prior top 5 players of the past. Post-doper Sinner who knows who he is taking out at this point so who can say who he beats or who he doesn't beat?

Jannik Sinner joins Nastase: 40 weeks as world number 1

After the vacation he will show up from 3 months sitting poolside magically looking like a 6'4" version of Mr. Universe and all the Italian fans will claim it was his work ethic.

    Reclassing and UTR for college

Just as an aside, my son actually played this kid in 14s that had a full beard. The kid looked like a man.

    Reclassing and UTR for college

I know the time consuming part, my son completed as a junior and is playing college tennis now. Assuming 300k investment, the delayed income that the kid encounters alone exceeds that figure let alone the lower income due to graduating in some wimpy degree. Plenty of D3 schools have great...

    Reclassing and UTR for college

This is all nuts. For what? - Delay your kids development as an adult / graduate from college and become an adult at 30 - Near 0 chance of making it to pros especially if you have to gimmick to get into a D1 school - Adding to item 2 major in parks & recreation management due to time...

USTA level 5 16U and 18U tournaments: Is the behavior of the players really this bad?

I string his racquets. In fact, I would assume actually most kids or their parents string if they are tournament player. It just gets too costly otherwise. In his case I left string/racquets out because for a majority of juniors my son played with lux 4g and blade and he got those from...

USTA level 5 16U and 18U tournaments: Is the behavior of the players really this bad?

When my son was in 10s there was a couple that did the same thing but had an old beat up RV and would head to tournaments and park in the club parking lots. He would host the best parties for the parents after play was done for the evening. I think their kids moved on to other sports.

USTA level 5 16U and 18U tournaments: Is the behavior of the players really this bad?

    Middle of the Westerner here. It was off the top of my head. My wife does handle the finances while I handle spending the money. 12 x $100 junior club members = $1,200 8 x 12 x $40 court fees = $3,840 2 x $125 x 25 private = $6,250 2 x $60 x 25 group = $3,000 2.5 x $150 x 12 tournaments =...

USTA level 5 16U and 18U tournaments: Is the behavior of the players really this bad?

I hear you. It was just my wife, our son, and me and we could afford it. I don't understand how families with multiple kids do it. Between privates, groups, entry fees, hotels, gas/flight costs, equipment, shoes (greater than 1 pair a month), etc. etc etc. we were easily spending > $30k a...

Head Edgewood - What Strings and Tension?

Nice looking racquet. I have always wanted one of those and a Prince woodie. My aunt who got me into the game used to hit with that racquet back in the 70s. I would go natty gut and go even lower say 45#. Those are leather power pads and if you have an old belt you can cut pieces out but if...

USTA level 5 16U and 18U tournaments: Is the behavior of the players really this bad?

I didn't realize you are still in Juniors. They should for sure have tournaments appropriate for the level of player I agree and have no idea why higher UTRs would sign up for a 6. Even when my son was playing up he would play 5s and I know there were a lot of the better players that were his...

USTA level 5 16U and 18U tournaments: Is the behavior of the players really this bad?

Just out of curiosity, I thought you indicated this was a USTA level 6. Was this was a UTR money tournament or a Local Level 6 as I don't think USTA offers $ at junior tournaments.

    Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Solinco MACH-10

I guess I am trying to understand why if they reference this new string as "5 sided" why they wouldn't do it for all their strings if as these folks say are 5 sided as I have not heard a good answer to that yet? It really doesn't matter to me as while I string a lot of it I do not use the stuff...

Australian doubles formation, why you do this?

Exactly! There is always movement and anticipation in dubs which is what makes it so fun to play. If you are standing at any point during the point you are in trouble.

Thanks for sharing. Just wonder what one would get from it. Certainly, not points nor competition although as you said they met each other I would presume in the final.

Those who are successful stringers, what did it take?

I would still love doing it. I am now old and grey and my son is 22 but I miss those days and would do it in a second if I could turn back time. Being a dad is the best thing that ever happened to me by far. I probably would have been 10 feet under by now due to bad habits. Spending time...

Those who are successful stringers, what did it take?

Being a stay at home dad is awesome and I envy you. One weekend my wife had to work and my son was in pre-school and I was watching him and I decided to grab his wooden blocks and see how high we could build a tower without knocking it over so you could imagine we were standing on chairs and...

Customizing a racquet to “slow down” its swing speed

Irvin, your answers are always way too simplistic. If someone put 50lbs of lead on your racquet you would get neither power nor stability. There is a happy ground and part of that is driven by your preparation, technique, strength, physical stamina. The point is if you lack proper...

Customizing a racquet to “slow down” its swing speed

Players adjust/up their swing weight for a lot of reasons but slowing down one's swing because they hit balls through the back fence should not be one of them.

    Reclassing and UTR for college

UTR is a number. It works great in junior competition for comparing 2 players and I know coaches rely on it but as a junior player you can't chase the number. It is stupid to do so. They just have to work as hard as they can and the number will follow. I saw (and still see when I look) kids...
