What’s the benefit of a stiff hoop?

Stiff frames gives you more power and stability than a soft frame at equal weight. To be roughly similar in power and stability, the softer frame has to be heavier. So stiff frames, being lighter, are easier to play with due to the easy RHS and micro adjustments one does while going through...

What’s the benefit of a stiff hoop?

Nadal tames his weighted up APD power with 15g RPM blast. Us mortals couldn't generate the RHS that he could to generate the heavy spin and power that he does. He grips his APD very very loosely and essentially slings it around letting it do the work at impact instead of his arm basically...

String breaker with a sensitive elbow, is an 18X20 racquet my best bet?

Gut / poly lasts much much longer than full gut or gut / multi. The smooth poly really prolongs the gut mains. Recommend you try Head Hawk Touch 17 as it's soft which compliment the gut well. A tad lively when fresh but will settle down a bit. I usually string the gut mains 5-10lbs higher...

String breaker with a sensitive elbow, is an 18X20 racquet my best bet?

Gut / Poly is the most comfortable string setup yet for me. The poly cross has to be soft though. The gut should be a thicker gauge for more consistent launch angles. My current setup is Babolat Touch 15 (or 16) / Head Hawk Touch 17. Been demoing many frames recently and have narrowed down...

Making an Ezone 98 even more arm friendly

    - Memory foam in the butt. - Wilson Shockshield replacement grip - Swap the Wilson Revolve with Head Hawk Touch instead if you need poly in the cross

    The gut/poly thread

Head Hawk Touch 17. Tad lively when new but settles in and stays pretty consistent. Might need to string it a few lbs higher as it's pretty soft.

Any way to make a racquet feel softer?

This is what I do to all my frames to protect my elbow/shoulder: Natural gut / Head Hawk Touch. Soft stringbed with great feel and spin performance. Progressive cross string tension. Progressively less tension near the top and bottom of the hoop. Less shock on off center hits. Wilson...

My experience with flexy vs stiff racquets

Thicker beams tend to be more dampen with less residual vibrations at impact. Their hallow tubes basically, sometimes filled with foam.

One handed backhand players, favorite/best rackets?

I love everything about the PS17 18x20 except for my 1HBH. It's just not stable enough I find. It's weight distribution is messing me up. It's polarized I assume? Adding lead at 4/8 helps a little but still not sufficient as it becomes too heavy for my FH. Switch to my Yonex Tour F 310g...

The Babolat Pure Strike Project Two Zero Thread

Mine is weighted up to about 340g also, mostly in the butt end with a heavier grip and OG. My Yonex Vcore Tour F 97 310g is at roughly the same weight and SW also but my 1HBH is much better with it for some reason. Smaller head size perhaps though very minimal here. Though similar in weight...

The Babolat Pure Strike Project Two Zero Thread

Fell immediately in love with my PS17 18x20 a year ago also. I'm a bit past the honeymoon stage now however. I do love how easy it is to generate RHS since it slices through the air quite well, too well perhaps. I always carry a variety of different frames in my bag with various string setups...

RHS and balance, and power question

RHS gives me more topspin in general but with less power and stability usually. My FH prefers more RHS of lighter racquets but my 1HBH prefers more plow and stability of heavier racquets. I try to find something as heavy as my FH can handle that moves through the air easily to get more RHS.

    VCore Tour F

Was going to get rid of my remaining 3 VCTF97-310gm but recently stumbled on a string setup that works quite well on them. Klip Legend natgut 16 / Head Hawk Touch 17 at lower tension than normal. Very comfortable and huge sweetspot now with good power. A soft nat gut string seems to work very...

    2017 Pure Strike

I've noticed the same with a lighter spec PS17 18x20. Mine are 298gm and 300gm with the latter being more HH and playing slightly stiffer. They do feel noticeably softer than than those at spec 305gm or higher. On the look out now for the 298gm version to collect a few more as they're hard to...

Only cotton in handle to dampen a racquet?

Try a strip of memory foam, 1/2 compressed. Works quite nice and does not add too much weight along with easy removal and tweaking.

Bab. Pure Strike Project kills your arm. . . eventually?

Hitting with PS 18x20. I find those at less than 300gm to play much softer than those at spec of 305gm or higher thanks to bad QC. I have one at 298gm and it feels softer noticeably than my 2nd one at 300gm stock surprisingly. I just add lead to weight them up to my liking. Very...

"Arm friendly" racket vs. "Not horrible for your arm" rackets

Babolat Touch 16 nat gut / Head Hawk Touch 17 @ 55/50lbs. Huge sweetspot and hitting off center isn't as jarring. Give it 1/2 hr to break in and be less lively. If this isn't comfortable enough, then no stringbed can save you with this frame other than a full bed of nat gut but that will be way...

Babolat Pure Strike 16x18 or 18x20?

Playing 18x20 version right now with gut/poly. Demoed both versions with the same poly string, I had much better control with the 18x20 version while not sacrificing too much spin as I get plenty of RHS with this racquet already. Stringbed on the 16x19 version was too powerful and unpredictable...

    Softening a racquet

I've soften frames before using body weight standing on the throat with the butt and tip supported on something. I does softens up the frame but you really have to flex it quite a bit. Not for the faint of heart. Some material is more responsive than others so start low and add more flex as...

String recommendation for pure strike 18x20?

VS gut 17 / Head Hawk touch 17 @ 56/45lbs. Use VS gut 16 if you want less power.

Strings recommendation for Babolat PS17 and YY Dr Ezone 98?

PS17 18x20 - Bab VS team 17 / Head Hawk Touch 17 @ 56/46lbs DR98 - Bab VS touch 16 / Kirschbaum Max Power 18 @ 56/44lbs PS17 needs softer strings as it's a stiffer frame. Trying the same string setup in a DR98 feels way too mushy as it's a softer frame and with a more open string pattern.

    Gut/Poly timeframe question

Keep the poly at 48lb and increase the gut tension until it suits you. My formula is exactly that in that I don't string the crosses tighter than what I would normally in a full bed. I find it'll feel too stiff if I do. You can string the cross higher if you use a softer poly instead.

    Best 18x20 frame at 300grs

Pure Strike 18x20. Stock is 305gm. Plays stiff and HH at stock weight or higher. Didn't like it at all. Find one that weighs under 300gm. Plays much better, softer. I added a heavy grip and it's about 330gm strung. HL but stable. Very comfortable with gut/soft poly hybrid.

    Gut/Poly timeframe question

Play until the gut breaks as gut's playability stays consistent until the end. One lasted me a good 60-70 hours, about 4X longer than full poly. My stringing machine is collecting dust now. I have on occasion restring the poly crosses alternating the weaving pattern to avoid the old notches...

    About one handed backhand racquet

1HBH requires more stability than FH, especially when hitting off the sweetspot as it's a weaker side compared to the FH side. So heavier racquets that are HL tend to be best. Smaller headsizes tend to be more stable also. My 1HBH can work with 100 sq in. frames ok but they need to be stable...

Full poly user feeling slight elbow problems. Suggestions?

Try Head Hawk Touch 17 poly in the crosses. Soft and still easy sliding for the mains. I use it as a cross in my setups, gut/poly mainly now with some poly/poly. Better yet, try as a full bed. You'll be surprised. It's the only poly I dare play full bed now.

Poll: best slick poly cross for gut/poly hybrid

Head Hawk Touch 17 is my new fav. It's soft, yet low power, and sufficiently slick. It's the only poly I've tried so far that feels like gut with a nice pocketing feel. Been using Wilson Revolve 1.25 as it's slick, not too stiff, and lasts the longest for me. After using HHT17, I've now...

Poll: best slick poly cross for gut/poly hybrid

YPTP's surface is actually rough if you look closely, hence it's matte finish. That makes it slick against itself, not so much with gut as you've discovered as it'll saw through gut easily compared to Revolve.
