2021 French Open - if Tsitsipas had won...

On what planet is winning a major more embarrassing than not winning one

Thiem was one of the good guys and a great player

Great guy https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/27/tennis/thiem-tennis-fund-coronavirus-spt-intl/index.html Played the Adria tour superspreader event but at least he apologised for that

What were the top 10 rivalries in Tennis where Opponents Disliked/were at loggerheads each other and it was intense ???

It’s really sad Medvedev has mellowed in his old age because him vs. Tsitsipas and Zverev was glorious

[Poll]Who among these was the most wasted talent of the last 10 years of tennis?

I’m a huge fan of Bublik admitting he plays for the money

    What is happening with Medvedev?

He can’t because of the shoulder, he needs a lot more rest than he used to. This isn’t speculation, he’s made it very clear. I think it’s pretty obvious he won’t be a contender soon, 30 is only really a year away. He doesn’t need more titles, really, he has 20 and 8 are major, and it’s not...

    What is happening with Medvedev?

This is to his credit but it’s clearly not his prime

Shorten the calendar - move the Australian Open?

As someone who grew up in Melbourne, February is significantly worse than January for heat. You could only move it earlier or to another part of the calendar, which if it is to stay in Melbourne isn’t possible because Melbourne’s weather is bonkers. But this is also just so funny, it’s at that...

Which is harder to win, an ATP 250 or a Junior Grand Slam?

Juniors is just a much, much tinier pool of players who are eligible and developed enough at the right age to compete in that particular tournament. It will never compete with the senior level, which is everyone much closer to full development, in any way - but definitely not by the time you get...

    Big 2 Solidified

I’ll add Shang here, but it also very well may be someone we haven’t seen

Why is Germany so bad at Tennis?

The thing people are missing in the Zverev conversation is that he grew up competing with and against his generation of Russian players as a result of his heritage. Tsitsipas too, though less so. The late 90s gen is very Russian-dominated for a reason - they all grew up together, competing...

[Poll] Who was the best athlete in the history of tennis?

Absolutely this - which is why the answer for tennis is Djokovic, because in tennis consistency over time is more important than peak

I feel sorry for those who want me to retire

People also miss that this being true doesn’t mean that there aren’t going to be individual moments where this isn’t the case, like Djokovic at the Olympics or Medvedev historically (may not continue if he’s really injured) or even Botic. This can 100% happen at Slams, but when you have more...

Medvedev now believes Peak Sinner > Peak Carlos (and everyone else he’s played at their peak)

Who cares about the h2h when he’s got at least a year of interrupting their rivalry at Slams, might be most he could do with a bum shoulder at nearly 30

The brothers of destruction Alcaraz and Sinner have spike piledriven Medvedev post USO 2023 into oblivion

Streaky players can win multiple slams, in fact Safin is a really good example of this (and I’d argue Hewitt was too, just that he blew up and then fell off a cliff). They‘re both good examples of this phenomena, I just didn’t mention them by name

Prime Medvedev was such a Monster

If 2021 near CYGS no. 1 Djokovic isn’t a prime no. 1, neither is Sinner at Wimbledon 24

The brothers of destruction Alcaraz and Sinner have spike piledriven Medvedev post USO 2023 into oblivion

This always misses the context that Djokovic and Nadal were chasing the Slam record during that period and were extra motivated to win them. They had declined, but the actual perfect time to win Slams was in the years leading up to this period, when they were older but not motivated into making...

The brothers of destruction Alcaraz and Sinner have spike piledriven Medvedev post USO 2023 into oblivion

Historically there have been players who have won multiple Slams without even encountering an ATG, that’s kinda the point. He hasn’t had a single Slam run without hitting one of them, and unlike everyone bar Delpo, Wawrinka and the other ATGs he won one of them. Even Murray, who I’d put in the...

    Uncomfortable thread, just in case

Wimbledon 2022, but based on nationality rather than individual behaviour. As a Med fan, I really wish people wouldn’t forget that one.

    Uncomfortable thread, just in case

WADA have explicitly asked in this case that titles not be stripped. The only tournament impacted is Indian Wells, and he already lost his points / prize money from that tournament. (I would like to see the ATP remove his match wins from that tournament even under the current ruling, but whatever)

    What are your hot takes

Mine: they all use gamesmanship, and if you think your fave doesn’t they’re just quieter about it And on that note, Sinner is among the ’worst’ with how he uses illness and injury during matches - but actually, tennis fans need to embrace and appreciate it instead of complaining

And with this one specifically, Roddick retired in part because he knew he couldn’t beat him anymore

Italian tennis player Stefano Battaglino suspended 4 years for Clostebol use (same drug that was found in Sinners system)

The answer is pretty simple, which is that incompetence that can be evidenced is rewarded and people seem to think this doesn’t somehow undermine the entire system
  26. Indeedy71

Italian tennis player Stefano Battaglino suspended 4 years for Clostebol use (same drug that was found in Sinners system)

No we’re not, for the obvious reason that when you test a substance in liquid it is no longer measured in grams. Sinner’s PR said that, which was shockingly irresponsible and he should be getting way more pushback as the person ultimately responsible

    Zverev Fils Beef

They settled and he paid costs. Generally speaking, if you hear someone accused of a crime settled and paid costs, what would you assume happened

    Zverev Fils Beef

‘You couldn’t find anyone else to practice with huh’ is what he said to Med after he practiced with Tsitsipas at ATP finals a few years ago, in case you’re wondering how sporting he is about those two
