    Paretto Rule

Well, I'm short (5'7") skinny (130 lbs) and an older Asian - I must be very close to my genetically low athletic potential. To all short, skinny, Asians in here - it was joke! Thank you GuyC

    Paretto Rule

" The most important to add to your list is to keep your wrist and your forearm relaxed on all shots except the volleys. You won't get better if you hold your racquet too tightly." It was the opposite of sas, but a thankful OP appreciating the solid advise to be used in tensed situations...

    Paretto Rule

This was a thoughtful response. I am very grateful sir, I will make sure to make this my mantra on the court. Not sure about appealing to the mind. I tend to forget things that is not tied to anything emotionally. I will play with it and give it a go. Thank you.

    Paretto Rule

The way I understand it, it was meant for groundies and serve - volleys not included. TBH, I don't believe volleys apply to the "20%" must learn and be better than the opponent principle here. It's a skillset way above 3.5 and 4.0 level. On any singles matches esp 3.5-4.0 levels, the...

    Paretto Rule

Uhmm...Yes I do know what Pareto's rule is (apologies for the initial misspelling) but thank you for explaining it to me again. I gave the reader the benefit of the doubt that he knows it too and wouldn't interpret the "20" literally as 20, but merely a figure of speech to communicate the...

    Paretto Rule

Josh Waitzkin was a chess champion, Taiji Push Hands world champion, and also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world class black belt. His book talks alot about the 80/20 rule to progress fast in any discipline. I picked up tennis at 33 y.o. and I believe this is the best approach for me to adopt. What...

What is the psychology of the cheater?

Don't worry about these people. It might not show now, but you will accelerate faster by playing your best and losing, instead of winning but hooking balls. Trust me.

Tips for not destroying the body on hardcourt?

Here in my neck of the woods, clay courts are only accessible to the uber wealthy i.e., country club that has an equestrian center, all else, its hard court.

THE MIGHTY PRO STAFF 90 THREAD

Consequently, but perhaps oddly, my single hand backhand is better with the 90 sq inch as oppose to any other size. Come to think of it, all my strokes are better with it maybe with the exception of a backhand serve return. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Player whom I beat 6,0 last time tell me he's going to beat me this time, he was just not playing seriously the last time. Beat him 6,1.

    Video Diary NTRP 3.0 - 4.0 by Auust 2014 (1 year)

It's amazing what videos can do to spot flaws in one's game. Link is a video of me hitting backhand comfortably and the first thing that got my attention is my distance to the service line playing mini court. (about 4-5 feet) I would imagine that I need the same space on the baseline on my...

This got me worried until I looked up the physical symptoms of Mono and found sore throat which I don't have! In my situation, I've always found that having a personal goal set in a timetable helps deter boredom. When I'm on the court, frustration is the most common emotion I feel, then self...

Fatigued I've been playing 20-25 hours / week for about 8 months now and lately I've been feeling fatigued . . . over-fatigued, maybe. I go to sleep tired, and I wake up still tired. Initially on some days I would purposely take sleeping pills and be in bed for 10 hours straight, confident...

Is it too late to become a 5.5-6 NTRP player?

Person teaching me tennis started at age 14 (so he says) and reached 5.0 at age 29. He's now 32. Reaching 5.0 only after 15 years us not bad considering I know quite a few whose been playing for more than a decade and still stuck at 3.5!

I've always been a fan of Raonic's serve, because of how effortless it looks. An impeccable mechanics does that. This part will be hard though, My coach and I have been working on my right foot not going over my left foot but its been 4 months now and I still do it. I guess my body just...

Hmmm. Today something changed in me . . . I realized that I want a much better . . . not modicum better, but an unqualified better serve! http://youtu.be/u0PM4Mr50js There are a lot of things wrong with this serve, but I feel it's markedly a step in the right direction.

    Changing playing style with age

At 34, I am conscious of the fact that as the rally gets longer, my chance of winning the point dwindles. I don't have much more time to "try" different styles. All current efforts is purely directed to being able to play first strike tennis. Five shot max.

Funny thing about this backhand. I've always tried to imitate Federer's backhand, but yesterday after this recording I realized I ended up with a mechanic more like Gasquet's: Not as much drive but more "brushy"?? But then again, if it works, it works. Thanks dude!

Ha ha ha I know! Too much energy and not much payoff. My coach keeps harping on placing my toss a little bit forward and aligning my momentum to the direction of the swing with a close stance as a setup. I may actually try to cheat here since what I am being taught is a little outside my...
