Who was the beginning of the "modern" game?

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. Agassi was who you wanted to be like. Big ground strokes, baseline game, big powerful racquet. Though I’m sure others paved the way such as those mentioned above. I’d say he solidified a new kind/style of player. But other styles remained—as the success of Edberg...

Citi Open cleared for full-capacity crowds as Rafael Nadal is set to make D.C. debut

Do you have any idea of how to get access to these single session tickets? As in--how would one be in the know? Just get on their email list and wait for them to announce it? Thanks!

Citi Open cleared for full-capacity crowds as Rafael Nadal is set to make D.C. debut

Thank you! My thought was that he'd likely play Tuesday, since he hasn't played in past weeks and that would give him a day off before playing again Thursday. But I'm assuming you know his own personal patterns from following him in past tournaments? If so, that would trump my speculations :)

Citi Open cleared for full-capacity crowds as Rafael Nadal is set to make D.C. debut

Question for when to go and see him: he has a first round bye, and the second round straddles both Tues. and Wed. Which day do you think they’ll have him play his second round match?

Did Del Potro save the US Open 2017?

I agree with the OP and would take it up a notch: Del Potro just made the US Open great again.

    Wilson Ultra Tour (Monfils)

What diameter Tour Bite are you using? I put Tour Bite 1.20 in an IG Prestige Pro not long ago and it was too lively, but in the Ultra Tour it might work. Right now I have Luxilon 4G in my Ultra Tour, since that was in the demo I tried before buying and it worked well, but I'm starting to think...

top tennis training - the guy has a wta fh

I hope the initial post is tongue and cheek. Alex absolutely annihilates the ball (see the vid below, you can more to 3:42; also, his hitting partner Simon has described how Alex's ball jumps), and if we had play sensor readings I'm sure his spin rates are much higher than the average WTA player...

    Let's analyze Cilic's game

I wonder if Fed will approach Cilic like he did Zverev in the Halle final. Fed was determined to not let Zverev get into any groove from the baseline and was hitting drop shots and other funk left and right. I'd say this is worth trying at least in the beginning against Cilic so as to disrupt...

    Is this Extension?

Yes, the understanding I had before (of extension = push out from the elbow) I picked up not from your writing, but from a coach, who otherwise is quite good. And I've gotten the multiple ball thing from two coaches, and I think I've interpreted it in light of baseball, where there is an...

    Is this Extension?

Awesome, thank you! Baseball was my big sport growing up, and on both the throw and swing the right arm goes from elbow bent to extended--and in this respect, as you're pointing out, the tennis stroke is different (which may be why it feels a bit odd to me). And as a corollary to what you say...

    Is this Extension?

@JohnYandell -- First, thank you for contributing here. I've subscribed to your website in the past and always found it insightful. --This thread has peaked my interest since it may point out a flaw in my stroke. I recently had a lesson (very good instructor in many ways, was on the pro tour)...

2017 Halle SF - [1] Roger Federer vs Alexander Zverev

About viewing: The streams I have seen for the other matches have been awful--I can hardly see the ball. Any suggestions? How is the quality of the TennisTV stream?

If tennis didn't exist, what jobs would the top 10 have?

Rafa would obviously work for a restaurant or catering company where he would be known for arranging drinking vessels (glasses, etc.) with maximal precision. :)

    Djokovic News

Eastbourne would be a great move: he needs to win matches and ideally a trophy to build his confidence back up. The fact that he'd have no opponents in the top 20 is all the better in regards to what the tournament could do for his mind.

To think federer was so close...

Both Fed and Nadal are favorites to win more majors. So much depends on whether Djokovic bounces back--my hunch is that he will. He has the power to own Nadal (and Fed too, though we haven't seen him against the Neo-Backhand). Both Nadal and Federer have gone through these head-slumps in the...

Chris / Troy: tail weighting the PS97s

@ borgpro -- Troy above says that he would put the lead on the pallet (i.e., under the replacement grip), and not inside of the butt cap. With lead tape, that much weight won't work inside the butt cap; if you want to add the weight in that location you should use something else, such as puddy...

Nadal rules out split with Toni.

In Nadal's case, one big issue I see is that he's always relied (when the going gets rough) on great defensive skills. In an interview this year, the interviewer (I believe Evert) commented on the fact that he seemed to be playing more aggressive. Nadal replied by saying that it's not a matter...

Federer insane return of serve court position

He was definitely trying something new, given how often he did it. It makes sense: he doesn't have the brute power off his backhand return like a Djoker or Murray can generate, but he can block the ball back with pace if he's given pace, and is excellent at hitting on the rise. If he can make...

    Loose grip? Nonsense

It's Joe Braden, who currently manages the Tennis Center at Purdue. He's an excellent coach, able to identify what you need to do to improve without overloading you with information.
  23. Teniludius

    Loose grip? Nonsense

OP, it could be that your focusing on a loose grip was affecting your swing path and you weren't hitting sufficiently through the ball, and when you stiffened your grip your swing changed so you hit more through the ball. If so, the primary issue wouldn't be the loose grip but the swing path...

IG Prestige Pro vs RF97 Autograph

I'm currently playing with the IG Prestige Pro and have demoed the RF97, so here's my take. As for how they feel to swing, the Prestige "cuts" through the air more; I wouldn't exactly call it whippy, but like the cutting metaphor. The RF 97 feels thicker, bulkier. My play partner and I called...

    Non-Toxic Alternatives to Lead Tape

I meant to say that the tungsten adhesive issue wouldn't be an issue if the weight is going on the handle, since the grip would hold it in place (I edited my post to fix it). On the head of the racquet, the tungsten tape could well fly off as some have reported. It would be good if some folks...

    Non-Toxic Alternatives to Lead Tape

The tungsten tape could be a good choice for those who want to add weight to the handle, since the issue of it falling off would be null. Of course, if the tungsten tape is thick then there could be a comfort issue, since it could create a bulge in the handle. I've never been concerned about...

    Tsonga

I recall that during a Federer-Tsonga exhibition (I think in late 2013), Roger Rasheed was one of the commentators, and during the broadcast he said that Tsonga switched to the "new racquet" (the Pure Strike I presume) to get more control; that his old racquet, the APD, was very powerful and...

    Wilson ProStaff RF97 Autograph

Brad Gilbert in the broadcast today called the new paint job an "unforced error." :) He too wanted a mostly black frame. But I must say these pics present it in a better light, especially from the side view. And of course, my respects to PeterFig -- awesome that he was involved.

    Wilson ProStaff RF97 Autograph

I at first didn't care for the paint job, in part because those teasers teased a mostly black, and so the red was a bit off-putting. But it's definitely growing on me. Also if you recall the N-Code had the white at 3 and 9, and that white portion (against the red background) made a really...
