    Top 5 shoes for 2011

I have recently been pleasantly suprised by the KSwiss Tubes 100. I didn't want to like them, because they look like a little kid "light up" shoe...but I tried them on anyway. They don't look bad on, and they were quite comfortable. After a few matches, they even feel better. I'm very happy...

    Wide feet, bad knees

I dont get that feeling from them, but I suppose everyone is different, you'd have to try them. If you look at the bottom view of the shoe, you can see they are slightly wider on the bottom than most shoes near the ball of the foot. The RS only though...the DS arent as cushioned, and I didnt...

    K-Swiss Shoes

Fit depends on the shoe. Defier RS's have a snug fit, and a lot of cushioning. Very stable. The new Tubes 100 are not as cushioned but still not bad, slightly more roomy, and are still nice and stable. The Big Shots have a similar feel to the Tubes, but are more roomy in the toebox, too...

KSwiss Defier RS. I am prone to ankle pain. the RS's have good cushioning.

Venus v. Serena: Top 5 Staged Match?

I really thought it looked staged. Looked like an exhibition "lets keep the score close" match.

Maybe after she was up 4-0, she decided not to try as hard. Then maybe she had a hard time getting back into the match after not trying hard...... ...just sayin....

Yes, or an ESR of 4.0 and a year end rating of 3.5.

    I suck at mixed doubles

Why don't you not hit at the woman, but put the ball in the open court? You don't need to aim for someone.

Match results closer across NTRPs as level increases?

3.5's here are obsessed with ratings. "oh, shes only a THREE-OH", "I'm on a FOUR-OH team", "Did Bill get Bumped Up to FOUR-OH?", "I don't play Jimmy on my THREE-FIVE team, he's only a THREE-OH". "I'm on an EIGHT-OH mixed doubles team". 4.0's don't seem to be vocally obsessed with ratings.

    Early vs standard rating??!!!

An early start rating isn't your year end rating. It is based solely on the "dynamic" portion of your rating, and your year-end rating can be different than your early start rating. The Early Start rating is just supposed to give you an idea of what level you should play in for the fall...

Match results closer across NTRPs as level increases?

Does this help? 2.5 Everyone is better than you. You think you suck. Tennis sucks. 3.0 You are learning to play and are starting to have fun playing. You still think you suck, but tennis is fun. 3.5 Your coach told you that good doubles players play at the net, so you think you know...

How were you warming up that she hit you with a ball?

    Playing To Lose?

practice something when you play him. maybe hit all backhands, running around every forehand (good exercise) maybe hit all balls on the rise? maybe hit only one handed backhands.... whats something you want to work on?

What to do with the player who has recovered from an injury?

Just split the team. You are doing it so everyone gets more playing time, so its not insulting anyone, you would be doing a good thing.

    Does Style Matter?

How old is your pro, 60? I agree with the guy that said as a pro, you would prefer to teach Federer's style, because it is less demanding on the body. My own opinion though, is I prefer that a professional tennis player look like an athlete. I realize that muscle isn't so important for...

    rating calculation question

somebody provide me with a place to post it, and i will upload my handy-dandy ratings calculation spreadsheet. i made it myself using all the information i have read on this site and other usta sites. its not 100% accurate, but i think it gives you a rough estimate. i knew last year i was on...

    Is this difference just cultural?

I know so many people who talk bad about other players that they don't want to play with because they are "not at their level", whose games could use plenty of improving themselves, but they just play the same old shots that "work". But then they turn around and complain "oh, I can't hit good...

It's so sad...USTA league tennis isn't about "team" it's about bragging rights

ok. i apologize. you did not say "all". you said "usually", which is still a bit broad. if i'm supposed to be a pudgey underacheiver captain, i guess my shoes are a little tight.

It's so sad...USTA league tennis isn't about "team" it's about bragging rights

I don't have any real experience (in tennis). Thats my point. Most of the USTA league players are either adult learners, or just all around mediocre "athletes". We know that. So what was your point when you started your post? Just to make sure we all got put in our place? You hate to see...

    so sad and frustrated

If she wants to play 4.0, she could have started her own team. I'm sure she could have found people from her 3.5 team willing to play up. If theres not a lot of "bumping" activity one year, then its expected that most teams are already established and may not have room for new players. And if...

It's so sad...USTA league tennis isn't about "team" it's about bragging rights

Angry? I'm not the one that posted a whiney sounding complaint about USTA. I was bumped up to 4.0 this year. I didn't appeal back down to form a "3.5 super team". I'm losing most matches, competitively, but getting good experience. I started out as a 2.5, and am trying to get better...

It's so sad...USTA league tennis isn't about "team" it's about bragging rights

I know of a player or two like this guy, if he is indeed at the level he says he is. Typically older (45-50ish) guys that are/were 5.0+ players, didn't quite go as far as they wanted as far as a "tennis career". Planning to go pro from the time they were 10, but never quite made it. They just...

It's so sad...USTA league tennis isn't about "team" it's about bragging rights

Let me guess.... 1. You are on a USTA team. 2. You have an overweight captain 3. You think you are a better player than your captain 4. Your captain isn't playing you as much as you think you should be played (probably because he doesn't think you are that good) 5. You lose badly...

It's so sad...USTA league tennis isn't about "team" it's about bragging rights

And if you really wanted to test your abilities, you would be happy to play these "sandbaggers". Sorry, this is my sixth year playing USTA. If I play someone that happens to be much better than me, I just do my best. Either they will eventually get bumped up, or I will eventually get...

More Accurate NTRP Rating for $$?

Thats what the USTA does now. Your "dynamic" rating is calculated depending on your latest match results. The only thing is you don't get to know exactly what it is. At the end of the year, the computer assigns you a rating which is the average of your "dynamic" rating, and how you have done...
