    Doubles positioning question

It is kinda frustrating to have played your heart out, only to realise that your partner is not acting accordingly. My partner was not pleased with me for my frustration on him not to react ( major WTF ! ) when the point was tight. Another setback to encourage singles players to play doubles

    Stubbornness

I would call this pride. There is truth in Forest Gump's famous line. The game is not over until you shook hands with the opponent at the net. Always expect the unexpected. When things do not go as plan, retract to your basic level and work your way up, gaining confidence along the way. Always...

    How to put away junkballers?

Looking at the score. You are not too far away from his level. One thing I could suggest is to be patient and fit to beat them. Try to stay on the point with him as long as you can and strike when opportunity arises.

    Singles or Doubles

I think those that prefer doubles are those that are skillful at their volleys and touch game. Feel the shot and the challenge of making it a close shot to win the point at the net is exhilarating.

how to deal with a lefty fast and spinny serve?

I agree with some of the posts here. Instead of standing stiff on the spot receiving serve, move your feet ( bailey footwork perhaps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pFMiSZ1rDY ). Some players might place their racquet in a relax position but for me I hold my racquet upright. Once, the opponent...

3.5 Match. How to beat this person?

Seems like you know the reason. You can handle your opponent if you keep your errors low and have a steady head. Your strokes are ok but be more conservative during rallies since he is not attacking most of the time. Strike when your opponent is out of position is all I can say.

    Hitting through the ball.

What Federer did was to straighten his arm upon contact and retract the arm, wrapping around the body/or to the shoulder. ( something like a windshield wiper action ) Other players who have that action includes Berdchy, Nalbandian , Clic etc. Check their slo mo in utube. Although it looks easy ...

How to rectify problems on my 1HB?

+1. You would need to consciously turn your body, the back should be facing the net with your front foot acting as a pivot. Make a C-curl of your hitting arm and focus on the oncoming ball. Make sure you hit thru the ball. The spin you want to exert depends on your brushing effort.

Suggestions of good drills for 2/3 people hitting

I totally support this drill. The lone hitter not only gets to hit CC, he can even train on footwork to move and position to hit the next CC. The players on opposite sides can focus on hitting DTL on the tramlines from an oncoming shot. It is a very good workout

    How to Handle the Emotions

I handled my emotion by walking to the end of the court after losing a point, sort of regrouping and try to focus the next point. It helps me to forget the point and play the next one. However, this is not applicable in doubles as your partner might think you are not in control and only play in...

How To Return a Lefty Serve?

+1 I adopt point 3 for all my returns against the lefty serve towards my BH. I must say it kinda nerve-wreaking since I use SBH. Because you are moving forward, you could have an even lesser time to react to a hard serve. What I do is to hold my racquet in front and chip/block/drive thru...

13year old junior struggling with winning matches

Well...all I can say is to be patient and expect the unexpected. Play the point, not the game and always on the lookout for opportunities. You will feel less frustrated and more focus on the game, eventually

Advice for player I am coaching please?

You've mentioned his volley is good. I would assume his feel of shots is good then. IMO, if he is good with that, he should not have problems handling different type of racquet. The question here is what is the swingweight of the racquet he is comfortable with. Some racquets give a good plough...

My Problem on the One Hand Backhand

As a SBHer, I often tell myself to drive thru and end with the arm going up and out. The part where the hitting arm go round the body is when you are at the recovery stage after hitting the ball, getting ready for the next shot.

    How to express your frustration....

Ya..that's what I am trying to tell him ( and some of the other things, subtly ). It happened most of the times when I partnered him and somehow, remarks were not taken seriously. Yes, I agree nobody wants to play a lousy game but if the partner is playing doubles without being aware what is...

    How to express your frustration....

subtly to your doubles partner without hurting his/her feelings? It is a question that has been bothering me as I cannot find the best answer. Let me explain in detail. In a competitive doubles match, your partner was 1. hitting a lot of unforced errors on normal pace shots or 2. weak...

Doubles strategies for partners of disparate skill levels?

Wow...I can relate most of later posts. It is hard to play a good game of doubles when your partner is not up to par or at least be aware of the game point. I have partnered players who tried to be somebody but end up nobody, do things ONLY THEY feel is right and self-righteous with their choice...

Tips for returning very slow serves and shots

It depends how fast the player moved to the shot. The distance of the ball from the net plays a part too. Top spinners must get into their optimum position to clear the shot from the net to make a convincing winner or , at least , a deep shot else the player will become a sitting duck. IMO...

    Strokes Aren't Everything

IMO, footspeed and footwork hold higher precedence than groundstrokes. Without them, there is no chance of getting there in time to setup for the stroke you want to hit.

Tips for returning very slow serves and shots

The problem here is wait. When you see a weak shot, or in this case a slow one, step up and hit it away from your opponent. Close in to the net and hit it to another direction for the winner. There is no need to crush the ball.

Doubles strategies for partners of disparate skill levels?

Not to sound bias but it is challenging to partner players who do not know how to play the doubles' game or do not have dependable bread-and-butter strokes . As far as I try, I will make a conscious effort to understand what my weaker partner can do and try to setup points to his/her favour.

    Dealing with an opinionated partner!

If I were you, I would reduce the chance of partnering him. It is annoying to have your partner commenting your shot in the middle of a point. It seems your partner is not respecting you at all in the game.

How to deal with fast balls with the one-handed backhand

Wow.....he must be dammed good..able to bend low and TOPSPIN the ball upward with pace. As far as I know, Steffi's slice is what I called an offensive slice, a slice that is from high to low, low enough to clear the net marginally , skipped low to below knee level and bounced near or at the...

Tennis etiquette and frustration on a doubles partner

Question to all whom had overcome this problem. How do you do it if your partner performed below par in every match we played and always claimed to be self-righteous about it? Helping my dubs partner with first serve

Hi there, I would like to use this video as reference if the OP may allow so as to share the same problem I had. Mid-court short ball approach forehands.

Hi, I had the same problem too. I would inadvertently blast the ball long when I got such shot landed in mid-court. So frustrating. After reading some posts here , I'd realized I had two choices: either I rushed to the ball before it dropped below my optimum height to strike, get into the side...
