Hot Take: I can’t stand the court-level view during televised matches

Every angle has pros and cons. I think the "high behind" that is typical of televised tennis is the best compromise, but you lose a lot too. Namely, you lose the appreciation for the difference in trajectories created by different types and levels of spin. Watching tennis from the typical angle...

Wilson K6.1 95 paint color changes?

Very interesting. I hadn't considered that the color difference was simply due to time, especially considering the whiter one is more scuffed up than the yellowing one. Great info Re: Karbon vs Karophite. Both of these sticks say Karophite, so I'm guessing neither are especially early...

    Best Wilson Blade?

I second that for the V7 18x20. Even better than the V5 that I used to use imo. Incredible buttery feel, predictable response, just the right amount of power. Mine definitely came out a little on the heavy side, but I came to appreciate that. To the early question about 16x19, I demo'd it...

Should wilson continue the pro staff series?!

Wilson will continue to sell rackets under the pro staff name as they have since the wooden era. They will continue to update them to fit what they see is the current taste in frames, as they have for decades. Whether or not this is the best marketing strategy, I have no idea, but I don't see...

Wilson K6.1 95 paint color changes?

Thanks for the info! That explanation makes sense. Do you know which color corresponds to which era of production? No real need for me to know that, just curious.

Wilson K6.1 95 paint color changes?

Hi all, I recently found a pair of 16x18 K factor 6.1 95 on craigslist. I noticed that the white paint on one of them is a more off-white color, and the other one is a crisper white. The off white is an L2 grip with the QC sticker on the outside of the throat. The crisper white one is an L3...

Some 'heavy' R1 matches will be under way this USO

Thanks for the heads up, some good ones for sure. Schwartzman v Monfils could've been a QF match back in 2020

I hate to say it but I think Shelton will win the US open

Shelton has the patience and shot selection of Shapo... more development is needed before he has a real shot imo.

Thrift stores and PIAS no longer fruitful?

:-D:-D:-D Of course. I'm glad someone still has a good supply. I guess such issues are a more local phenomenon. Question is if anyone else has it bad, and what the reasons might be for it. That's a lovely prestige.

Racckets deteriorate , or so says Roger Federer when discussing his RF1....

I think it's pretty hard to tell unless you play as much tennis as pros/college players do. Even rackets with wear into the graphite might play pretty similarly to when they were pristine, save for the difference in weight. I abused the hell out of my first 2015 blade, can still play totally...

Thrift stores and PIAS no longer fruitful?

I've been getting the bug to look for classic sticks again lately, and I'm running into one of the problems that made me stop in the first place: There is nothing to be found at the thrift stores, or even at PIAS. I have stopped by every goodwill within a reasonable radius of home, and as of the...

    Gone but not forgotten

I feel this one. I'm college age so not exactly the same range you're talking about, but even the club team guys I play with don't really nerd out about rackets or string beyond what their favorite poly is or if this year's aero pro/pure drive/blade/pro staff is any better than last year's. If I...

What was your worst (vintage) racket?

Not as much experience with different racquets compared to the usual crowd here, but nonetheless of the old ones I've played with, I think my least favorite was the Prince Precision 690 Longbody. I am a smaller guy and figured I should try out an extended racquet. Other than the obvious added...

Which player out of Big 3 is most imitated?

In terms of the serious teaching of technique, djoko by far. When I was learning tennis my coach essentially taught me to roughly copy his strokes. Nole's technique is way easier to teach than fed's or nadal's and it clearly has a very high ceiling too. That said, everyone has tried to mime fed...

Would you rather have all of Djokovic's strokes or Federer's?

Really just the added strength at backhand. Fed's forehand is stronger than nole's for sure, but the gulf isn't as large as on the backhand wing. Fed's net game is better, but in the modern day, that side of the game just seems to be less relevant.

Would you rather have all of Djokovic's strokes or Federer's?

Fed cause they're gorgeous and, although not as complete as Nole's, still way better than my own :-D

What music you listen on the way to matches?

If I'm feeling dramatic: Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Holst, Wagner, Prokofiev. If it's not a high-stress match, I'll just listen to whatever comes up in my library, or nothing at all. Music is so powerful to the point that it pulls my focus away from the moment (which is not ideal leading up to...

Is Djokovic the Pearl Jam of tennis?

I don't disagree, my post was a poor attempt at humorous mockery of the laver nuts around here.

    Who Will Federe Coach?

Someone who isn't on the tour yet. Fed has made it pretty clear he's not interested in coaching at the moment.

Is Djokovic the Pearl Jam of tennis?

Obviously none hold a candle to JS Bach (laver)

    Your most favorite Federer moment?

As far as a single highlight goes, the between the legs volley at USO 06 is up there for me. I think it perfectly exemplifies his absurd level of talent. That said, there really are too many great moments to pick just one.

Name the players that will stop Alcaraz from breaking the GS record

Only the heat death of the universe could possibly stop Carlos. Based on the immense pile of evidence we have, it is inevitable that he will win 40 slams per week.

Predict 2023 year end top 3

If an AI scraped every post on this site prior to september of this year and tried to answer this question, it would be 1. Djokovic 2. Nadal 3. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Forecast. Federer will never again play French Open

Given that he'll probably retire prior to RG2023, I'd say that's a safe bet.

Stefanos Tsitsipas will never win a grand slam.

Getting on this train too. The moment we knew was the FO final loss against djokovic. I like his game, but he is a mentally weak instagramanus.

2022 USO Alcaraz vs 2020 USO Thiem, who would win?

Thiem was a little injured that match iirc. Alcaraz would take it for sure.

Why exactly is Jack Sock always in Laver Cup?

His doubles highlights there are always spectacular. He's there because people will pay to watch those angles and drop volleys.
