Was Nadal really not at his peak in 2011?

Fed wasn’t exactly peak in 2008-09, the situations are actually very analogous. Both still very good, better than almost everyone but lost a few % off their top level. Ignoring Nadal entirely, Federer 09 vs Del Potro at RG/US and vs Roddick at W were clearly not the best we’ve seen of Federer...

Anyone else feeling empty after the Olympics?

This. Never let fandom become a core part of your identity. Djokovic accomplished these feats, not you, and he’s the only one who has the right to these feelings. If he thought like OP did, living vicariously through someone else, he would have never achieved what he did.

    Congrats to Djokovic

Not just that, it’s admirable to see a guy who has won so much put his god, country, family above himself. He was happier than I’ve ever seen him to win this for his country and celebrate this win with his family

    Congrats to Djokovic

I said this in another thread but maybe this is the better place for it thematically in the Djokovic-skeptic thread: I know I’ve trolled a lot and said a lot of negative things about Novak over the years, mostly to give it to the fans rather than to the man. Today, can’t say anything but...

    The Greatest

I know I’ve trolled a lot and said a lot of negative things about Novak over the years, mostly to give it to the fans rather than to the man. Today, can’t say anything but congratulations to the man. Incredible effort, turned back the clock, didn’t give up on any shot or point. Served well...

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Congratulation Novak. Epic win and the one he wanted most

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Alcaraz hasn’t learned to let him create his own pace and angles sometimes

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Wanting to fight doesn’t mean you can execute. See Nadal. There was no guarantee he would play this well

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Catastrophic ROS. The entire light racket, raised on poly gen has problems on ROS

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Why would I be shocked? It’s been an admirable performance though

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Have to respect a man going out and giving everything for his dream, after the heartbreaks he had the past few times

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Whatever criticisms one might have, effort level shouldn’t be one of them

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Djokovic hitting more cleanly with better depth. Alcaraz relying on young legs and reflexes to keep it close.

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

It’s true about Nadal but also not really fair to compare anyone to 2008 Nadal on Clay. Alcaraz is his own player, not a clay specialist, more well rounded than Nadal at 21 but not as good on clay of course

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Gotta give Novak credit for his physical preparation. You would never know he had an injury a couple months back, and he doesn’t even look tired out there

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Alcaraz returning from outer space and getting rightfully punished

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

    They’re particularly stupid today unfortunately

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Djokovic is 37 and might win his first here. Meanwhile fans are like, if Alcaraz fails on his first try it’s over for him. Loser mentality

Paris Olympics Final – Spain [Carlos Alcaraz] vs. Serbia [Novak Djokovic]

Djokovic is so much smarter than Carlos tactically. Carlos can’t take advantage of any fitness differences because he’s the one who’s always working harder

Medvedev almost gets Disqualified in the 1st Set

I don’t follow the WTA, so not sure how she is viewed. I think fans would get behind Shelton if he backed up his personality with big wins - hopefully we’ll find out if I’m right in the future

Medvedev almost gets Disqualified in the 1st Set

Shelton just needs to win a little bit more tbh

Alcaraz on course to be the youngest winner of the channel slam and youngest to defend Wimbledon since Becker in 85-86

I see your jinx thread and raise you my own prediction. Djokovic takes advantage of the extra rest he’s had this tournament and cruises to #25 in straights on Sunday
