At what age do results matter???

"but if not i'm fine with her playing college tennis" wish more parents would view playing college tennis as an honorable and desirable goal for juniors instead of a cop-out for those who couldn't make it on the tour. just sayin' . . .

New Honest Interview on State of American Tennis

my point was that, just as there are good coaches and bad, there are also good parents and bad. i just get tired of reading articles or forum posts from coaches who are constantly complaining about the parents. honestly, for me, it all boils down to communication. coaches, please tell us...

New Honest Interview on State of American Tennis

tennishacker, i agree with you. tennis parents often get a very bad rap. there are many coaches out there who, even when the parent ASKS the coach to take control, devise the tournament schedule, devise the training schedule, devise the eating and workout schedule, AND hold the kid...

    Playing Up

what i'm gleaning from this discussion is that there are so many factors involved - size, mental toughness, etc. - in deciding whether or not your child should play up. i think the decision gets easier as they move through the age groups - depending on their birthday (and, of course, what their...

    Playing Up

Tennis5, i totally agree with you. but, the way the USTA ranking and points system works, it's tough NOT to play up and still have the opportunity to compete in the bigger tourneys as you age up. i'm not sure what the correct answer is here. all i know is that, given my son's goal to play the...

    Stretching Routine

oftentimes, back pain is a result of tightness elsewhere in the body. be sure you do some dynamic stretching of all the major muscle groups BEFORE you play then do some deeper stretching afterward. using a foam roller on your back, obliques, hamstrings, IT band, and quads can help as well...

    Playing Up

http://parentingaces.com/2012/02/09/playing-up/ i would love to hear others' thoughts and experiences regarding playing up in the juniors. this has been an issue my son has struggled with since he's on the smaller side, physically, and has a mid-summer birthday.

http://parentingaces.com/2012/02/07/doubles-doubles-toils-troubles/ how much doubles are your kids playing? with all the tournaments we have in the atlanta area, there are still very few opportunities to play dubs on a regular basis unless you play in a league. would love to hear the story...

it's tough being a tennis parent

even top-notch sports psychologists get stressed out when watching their kids play! read Dr. Allen Fox's confessions and see if you can relate . . . http://parentingaces.com/2012/02/02/confessions-of-a-tennis-parent/

    jr player's superstitions

i think the point dr. fox is making is that the act of having the ritual or superstition or quirk provides the sense of control necessary in a sport where so much is out of the player's own control but rather dependent on the opponent and playing conditions. the ritual provides stress relief so...

    Are our kids fit enough?

the 16s had no 3rd set either. and, once the rain started, the matches were changed to start at 2-2. of course, the rain ended up canceling the entire event in atlanta, so too bad for those point-chasing or new-opponent-chasing folks who traveled from across the country to play. a lose-lose...
