Growing support for speeding up surfaces

Wrong the 90s had a much larger percentage of power servers than today. You might have 4 or 5 all-serve guys today in the 90s there were dozens

    Can Nadal win Cinci ?

You would of thought Nadal would have won Miami at least once by now, as its the slowest hard court on tour and the pro Nadal crowd.

Growing support for speeding up surfaces

Its a shame to see tournaments such as Basel and Paris playing slower and slower every year and the ball bounce getting higher and higher. In 2007 they removed the carpet and slowed it down dramatically (what a surprise, Nadal makes the final). 2010 Paris was a nice experience, a genuine fast...

    Olympic medal predictions

Being best out of 3 sets I can see Tsonga, Berdych, Raonic, Roddick all in contention. Even Isner or Karlovic can put together a nice run with big serving. I just dont see Djokovic or Nadal getting past the quarters. A big hitter will knock both of them out. Im gonna say Fed takes the Gold and...

Who is a better player: Johansson/Gaudio or Murray?

The point is the public regards major winners the best golfers and remembers their names.

Who is a better player: Johansson/Gaudio or Murray?

Skipped Del Potro. Now there's a guy you can compare with Johansson and Gaudio. Lets compare the top 20. More than a dozen slam winners a decade ago compared to only 4 today. LOL so what are you gonna say now :)

Who is a better player: Johansson/Gaudio or Murray?

What part of it is ridiculous ? Just look at the top 10 today versus 10 years ago. Today there are 3 players with grand slam titles back then there were 7. Murray is a better player but thanks in part to this weak era.

Who is a better player: Johansson/Gaudio or Murray?

Golf is ALL about majors, even more so than tennis. In the general public's view (those who only tune in on Sundays), the vast majority think major champions are the best most complete golfers. Its only team sports where players like Lebron James are regarded as the best players but up until...

Who is a better player: Johansson/Gaudio or Murray?

The only reason Murray is #4 today is because its one of the weakest eras ever apart from the top 3, so naturally you would see a guy like him reach grand slam finals and win masters series events. Not saying he is a bad player or anything. Johansson and Gaudio both played in eras where there...

Djokovic suggests to speed up the game!!!

Yeah its the pot calling the kettle black at its finest. But Im all for more variety :)

Upset of Nadal a breath of fresh air

I agree tennis has been stuck in a predictable routine for years now. The field has been very weak and incapable of upsets thus you see the same guys over and over again in the quarters / semis / finals. As you said there are almost no surface specialists left as every surface plays the same...

    What did Nadal prove today?

That was some insane tennis from Rosol. Reminds me of a peak Krajicek / Safin hitting winners off everything and anything. Fast conditions (roof closed) and the tennis is 100x more exciting than the monotonous pushing we have become accustomed to today. Im just relieved we dont have to sit...

    umpire salary?

Tournaments such as the European Masters Series events and the 4 grand slams, specifically the AO, pay more because wages in general in those countries are higher than the US. In Australia they were earning $25 AUD per hour.

    umpire salary?

I personally know several umpires who are on tour and I can tell you for a fact that Lahyani makes 6 figures + benefits. The lower end guys (ex. linesmen) make just over $100 per day.

Madrid Surface.. keep Blue or revert?

At the beginning of the week I hated the blue clay, but now I love it. Great to see some much needed variety back in the game. Its even better to see Nadal and Djokovic butthurt and whining ;)

Samuel Groth serve WR 163mph (263kmph)

Those guys had monster serves that would humiliate most guys even today. Seeing Krajicek's serve in person before Id be damned if he did not hit some serves over 150 mph in his career. They were just never correctly measured with the inadequate technology of the 90s.

    Djokovic blasts ‘double-dealing’

The court is not homogenized enough for Novak and Rafa. They expect the same conditions wherever they play the Aus open, Wimbledon, Indian Wells or on clay. It has to be slow, high-bouncing and suitable for grinders. Once a tourny gets sped up (Paris 2010) or becomes 'different' (Madrid 2010)...

    Fastest serve ever?!

I saw Roddicks 155mph in person and It did not seem anywhere close to Groth's serves which Ive also seen in person.

    Favourite Masters tournaments.

Favs: Paris, Miami, Rome Least fav: Shanghai, Canada I love the MC setting but the tennis is usually terrible. I wish they put more effort into MC and bump down Madrid instead. Blue clay is gonna be a joke.

Time to Restore Some Masters finals to 5 sets?

As a fan it would be nice if all MS events were best of 5 sets finals but events such as IW, Miami and the clay masters put too much strain on the players. The MC should be 5 sets no questions.

    Where is Jason Goodall?

I hope he comes back for MC. I cant stand the American commentators.

    Miami Court Speed?

Just spent the last 4 days down in Miami and played on the outside court today. Very hard to hit through and slow but its a bit quicker than I remember from last year. Its not as gritty. And I agree with Federer that the center court is quicker than the grandstand and outside courts. Just look...

Predict the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 winners this year

Indian Wells - Murray Miami - Djokovic Monte Carlo - Federer Madrid - Djokovic Rome - Nadal (Hoping Fed gets it) Toronto - Djokovic Cincinnati - Federer Shanghai - Djokovic Paris - Federer WTF - Federer I really have a strong feeling that 3-4 of the MS events will be won by someone outside of...

What's the process of slowing a court down like?

The sand content defines the speed of most grass and hard courts. More sand = slower court. Another factor is how polished the top layer is. If its gritty the court will play slow if its polished it will play fast. Newer courts are also much slower than older courts. I play in Miami / Delray...

    What's left for Roger Federer?!

1- Olympic Gold 2- Monte Carlo 3- Rome 4- Another Wimbledon 5- French Open by defeating Nadal

People saying he should skip Monte Carlo, Rome etc... are you nuts ?? Those are the 2 most important titles he has not yet won. He wont be skipping those.

How will tennis be played in ten years?

Tell me about. Its unbelievable. S&V has almost become extinct overnight. Ive said before if tennis stays as it is now everyone playing the same boring baseline counterpunching style I will stop watching altogether. I feel like there are no unique tournaments left. Makes no difference if...
