    Ultra Tour String Playtest Thread

Both sets were given to me for free, and I felt black gut would look weird with any other poly

    Jolly's Polys

Outlast, RCW, and RPM Rough are the only I’ve tried in a 1.20. I think all three lasted longer and performed better for what I like.

Because I’ve played 8 sets to 3 reels of each string. You obviously struggle to understand the difference between subjectivity and objectivity, which is made worse by the fact that you can’t disagree with someone without being a jerk.

    Jolly's Polys

Outlast, Black5Edge, Typhoon, ALU Soft, Adrenaline Rough, Element, Red Code Wax, and RPM Rough are all strings which, in my experience, play better and for longer than Hyper G. Spin is a byproduct of technique Shaped strings might grab the ball well to start, but after an hour or so the edges...

    Jolly's Polys

I’ll make sure to quote this when you change your mind again. I’ve strung and played more Hyper G than most people on this board (over 30 reels in a couple years) it’s nice, but there’s better stuff out there.

That poster has a new, favorite, best string setup every few weeks/months so their statement is rather ironic.

    Best natural gut currently

Having played with VS pre-stretched before, I don't think they feel similar, but that's only my own opinion.

Playing singles against former Top-300 dude this afternoon

Sounds like a very cool experience! The best players (ranking-wise) I've ever faced are a girl ranked inside the top 500, and a guy who made it to ~400. Aside from the obvious differences (namely footwork, conditioning, and mental strength) the biggest takeaways from my matches have been that...

    Cost of Stringing Survey

I have access to places where I can get NXT and similar for well under retail, but I still mark them up a bit in price because they're still expensive relative to what other strings cost at wholesale prices.

    Best natural gut currently

In my experience VS actually felt stiffer than Wilson.

    Cost of Stringing Survey

Nope. Never had anyone ask for gut. That'd be a different matter. $25 as in ALU, RPM, and various Multi's that have the audacity to charge close to $20 a set.

    Wilson Gut is much softer.

    Introducing MAYAMI Tennis Strings

Tour Hex looks like it’d be cool looking in my racquet and that’s basically my minimum criteria for trying a string. I’ll have to give it a shot soon

    Cost of Stringing Survey

$10 if you bring me your own string. $20 if I’m stringing for you with syn gut, cheaper multi’s and “basic” poly strings. $25 if you want luxilon, Babolat or other “premium” stuff.

    Ultra Tour String Playtest Thread

Currently waiting to string up two more sticks, one with VS Touch black mains with RPM Rough crosses, and the other will be strung with the reverse hybrid. I normally wouldn't use something like VS in the crosses, but I was given the set for free from a friend so I don't feel so bad.

Here's a twofer as the reviews are a little shorter with these strings. Klip Uncoated/ALU: I really, really, like uncoated gut. I mean, it doesn't last nearly long enough considering how expensive it is, but I swear this stuff grabs at the ball better than some (not all, but definitely some)...

ALU Power/Klip Uncoated 1.25 Normally, I am in agreement that natural gut in the crosses is a waste of good string. Generally speaking, I think poly strings belong either in a full bed, or in the crosses, as poly mains/soft crosses have a tendency to feel stiff and harsh. This hybrid was a...

Tough call, but probably Tecnifibre Multi Feel—at least as a main string. It’s soft but still crisp. Crossed with poly it isn’t as spin friendly as gut mains but it doesn’t turn into mushy crap like X-One or NXT. I hate putting multi and synthetic as a cross so I can’t really speak to that.

Wilson Gut 1.3/Element 1.25 vs. Lux Gut 1.3/Element 1.25 Because these are functionally the same hybrid, they really only need a single post that differentiates the two main strings. As I've already written plenty about Element, I'll only reiterate a few things about that string. Element...

ALU Power/Rough I probably should have started with this review as these strings are my benchmark. I also should've named the thread something a little less specific as maybe it'd have garnered more attention, but that's a totally different matter. I have both regular ALU and Rough listed in...

    Gut/4G vs Gut\Tourbite

Tour Bite will rip through the gut mains in less than 10 hours if you have slower RHS, and probably 3-4 hours if you hit with some power. That said, I think it'd play better than gut/4g during that time. It's all up to what you think is worth the money.

    Co-polyester - Kirschbaum Pro Line PLX 1.25

A little stiffer than Poly Tour Pro. Spin is similar as I recall. Definitely not as slick as revolve but it doesn't fall off the table after a few hours of play like Revolve does.

MSV Co-Focus I had to skip the order of strings I had intended to write a review of because I just finished playing a tournament with this setup. Recently I've been sick and busy with school, so my tennis has been quite limited and I played zero expectations on myself. As a result, I decided to...

Ultra Tour - How to customize?

My UT's have a leather grip, one over grip, and then lead in the head to adjust for the change in balance from the heavier base grip. I prefer 5 grams. It ups the power without making it too heavy.

I played a tournament this weekend and decided to yolo it and played with a full bed of MSV Co-Focus 1.18 at 52 pounds. I don’t have time to write a full review right now, but expect something later tonight or tomorrow. Honestly, I’m very impressed with how this string performed considering that...

How does multi like wilson tnt play at 35 lbs?

Multifilaments don’t grab the ball like poly, so you’ll end up with a lot of power but not much (if any) extra spin to compensate. I think people should verify these sorts of things through their own subjective experience, but I don’t think I’d string a multi below 45-50 pounds unless it was...

Kirschbaum Xplosive Speed I have a real love-hate relationship with Kirschbaum strings. The Pro Line family, however, has always driven me crazy as it plays...
