As a Sock and Busta fan, I find Medvedev to be the real deal among the younger players. He can stay with the best from the baseline and can out-serve them at will. He is also very tough mentally which has allowed him to overcome in form players like Tsitsipas at Shanghai Masters. I can...
I don't think he played bad at US Open 2019 even with the injury. Stan is just very confident against Djokovic. Novak also somehow becomes a bit more defensive when Stan goes for his shots. Stanimal really has been a bad match up for Novak since 2013 in Slams.
On topic, peak Stan vs peak Murray, I'm picking Murray in 4 sets. Andy is probably the best returner ever against the biggest servers. He would frustrate and grind down Stanimal at their respective peaks.
But Stan has dominated Djokovic in Slams since 2015. Gotta give credit where its due. I didn't think he could do it at US Open but the level he brought against Djokovic took me by surprise. He went for his big shots and didn't miss much. I kept thinking how one can hit this big and not make...
I kind of agree with Wilander here. The numbers prove that Djokovic is the best ever. Leads in Grand Slam titles won, highest winning percentage (82.70%) and has no rival dominating him in Slams (Staminal is a myth).
Hate is a strong word. Federer or Djokovic wouldn't hate a fellow player unless they have a history. They respect each other. They just wouldn't be sharing jokes and bromancing around any time soon. Fedal are an exception. Not the norm.
I think he always planned to play Paris and WTF and to skip the entire Asian swing. When he said he had Paris and WTF in his schedule and was not sure about Shanghai, I thought he meant to skip it. He has a wedding this month. It's got to be more important for him than chasing another year end...
And Nadal never had Baghdatis in any of his Slam finals. :(
Beat him easily in the only Slam semi final they played at 2006 Wimbledon. Berettini pushed Nadal harder than Baghdatis did to teenage Nadal.
Then Federer's Slams from 2004-2007 also don't count. That leaves him with what 8 Slams? Not bad. Still ATG, only behind Slam leader Nadal, Djokovic, Sampras, Borg, Laver, McEnroe, Connors, Agassi, Lendl and Murray.
