Wow: what a moment from Osaka

You can be shy and struggle making friends yet still be capable of doing nice things when the occasion merits it. Sometimes people gain more courage to do great displays of friendliness during complex situations than on a daily basis. Kvitová said in an interview this year that she has noted a...

Wow: what a moment from Osaka

No, it's okay for you to point that out. And it's also okay for her to be like that. There's nothing wrong with being terribly competitive in a competition and super friendly in your everyday life.

Which underdog would be your favourite to win USO?

In order of preference: ATP: 1. Zverev 2. Rublev 3. Dieguito WTA: 1. Wang 2. Townsend 3. Vekic

Wow: what a moment from Osaka

You should read what Coco said after the match. She gave a good explanation of why what happened was remarkable. What Naomi did is precisely what marks what a good athlete is: ruthless and competitive on the court, but gracious and friendly once the match is over.

Wow: what a moment from Osaka

Medvedev did say at the end of one of his matches that Young (his opponent) and the umpire were friends and implied corruption just because they were both people of color.

Wow: what a moment from Osaka

A few years ago I would've disagreed with this. I don't mean to attack certain players, but in the past there used to be plenty of them that were the perfect picture of what a sore loser should be. That's what gave WTA some of the fame most people in this forum live with. But once that...

Women's Singles 2019 US Open Round Three: Naomi Osaka vs Coco Gauffe.

That's why WTA has been my favorite tour for the past few months. ATP may have a higher level or whatever, but WTA has better characters and feel-good type of stories :giggle:

    Medvedev Proud

Agree. It's still a rude behavior, but it doesn't feel like Nick's usual antics, that can be entertaining but most of the time are just pathetic. This had some purpose. It was about time tennis had a compelling unpopular player that doesn't shy away from it.

I kinda like this (?). And this is how I lose all my credibility

Maria Sharapova unhappy her opponent danced & celebrated when she retired. Parmentier says Sharapova should've played the last game

Considering Maria was nearly in tears during her press conference, I think the injury is serious enough. Both of them are right imo. Parmetier is right in that Maria should've finished the match for respect towards her opponent. 4 points are nothing. The only reason why I could justify a...

Fed thinks he'll still be friends with Rafa after he retires

Totally agree. I've always had the impression that Roger appreciates Rafa much more than Rafa appreciates him, but I want to believe it's all because of their personalities. Fed seems like the type of guy who expresses affection very openly, he's chill about his friendships and doesn't care too...

Which Youngster Had The Most Disappointing Performance Today?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and pretend you don't know the difference between a coach and a manager. Go and check that out. There's no comparison point.

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

Before you continue on the path of making things personal, I want to clarify I'd never taken the same decision as her. Hell, I wouldn't have advised her to just ditch her coach just to "be happy" either. It's not a good look to make assumptions of people. I, as a productive person (either in...

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

In Australia she was having great results, winning convincingly match after match, even when Sascha was barely there with her. Despite what so many people in this forum want to make out of her, I highly doubt she was stupid enough to want to start losing for the sake of it. No one is. She...

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

Well, she literally said she was unhappy during the Aussie Open because of her coaching situation. It's up to you if you believe in her word or not, but I don't see any reason why she would lie about it. If she's currently down because of the poor results she has had these past few weeks (at...

    73 Questions with Roger Federer

I usually hate this series of interviews by Vogue. All the ones I've seen come across as terribly scripted and fake. But this one is really nice. I don't know what he has, but Roger looks so honest and natural, even with an over the top and rigid production like this. Thanks for sharing it!:giggle:

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

She did. And she should've been happy about it, not wishing for it to be over. Especially after the disaster that was the US Open final. When the thrill of winning is overshadowed by the negatives around, that's a sign to change things.

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

It wasn't working for Naomi, that's the thing. She pretty much said she hated the Aussie Open and was only waiting for it to be over, regardless of the result. How can we expect a player to keep on winning while being so miserable? At least now she can blame it on herself instead of dealing with...

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

IMO, nothing. She's a bit hard to understand from time to time, but I find her honest. The respectful and not harmful kind of honesty, not the Kyrgios one. People are overreacting with their dislike towards her. Just because someone else's personality is not your cup of tea doesn't mean you need...

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

Agree, they're not comparable. There's absolutely nothing wrong in what she did. I just don't think it's fair for us to judge her for doing what she needed, especially after coming back with such great results.

I know. I couldn't believe it either when I first read about it

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

You make it sound as if Barty had left tennis for being lazy. She was burned out, had no results, no energy, and most importantly, no love for the sport at the time. She did what everyone in this forum keeps saying Kyrgios should do, what anyone sane would do: take a time off to find herself...

Osaka's decision to split with Bajin!?

Totally agree. I truly believe most of the negative comments about Osaka in this forum are moved by a dislike of her as a person (which is valid) than just the decision of parting ways with Sascha. The weird criticism of her personality was already here before the split, and it's the same...
