It can happen. If it truly was an embolus its possible he may have had a clotting disorder. Very sad though..

Is bouncing the ball with the frame of your racquet any indication of tennis talent

It takes a LOT of forearm muscle control as well. Its one of those things where if you are a pro its easy to do, but just because you can do it doesn't mean you're a pro! The other thing pros do great is hacky sack with a tennis ball.. this is really really hard. If you watch any sort of...

Murray Looks Like he Hurt his Knee

I think the same knee is why he missed almost a year as a junior.

    The Decline of Federer's Backhand

No, look at his volleys.. the forehand volley is atrocious now for his standards.

What age will the top players retire?

Murray had knee problems a few years ago that prevented him from playing juniors for a while, and continues to have lingering knee pain.

Anyone know why ESPN isn't broadcasting the men in true HD?

I remember an old Tennis magazine from the 90's where Brad Gilbert developed a rare condition in his eye from excessive UV light.. the picture was not pleasing. Saw the guy a few years back, if he wasn't a tennis player you'd think he was some sort of wise guy... he is very strong for his age.

    Nadal's aura

Nadal has had an aura for years too. Disagree with your statement; the great ones have the game to do damage well after their prime. See Becker, Lendl, and Sampras winning slams much later than their last one. Its too simplistic to say Federer relies only on ability and Nadal relies on...

    Novak learned his lesson?

Maybe, but to be a great player in any sport you have to be immensely confident internally, bordering on, or even being outright cocky. Some athletes have just chosen to hide it better than others. Even the "nice" great athletes are like this. Good for him though, if he can hide some of his...

Nadal [1] vs. Djokovic [3], Cincy Semi

A player in Chennai/Doha is probably as fresh as he is ever going to be. This is actually when you see some of the brittle players win a tournament as Escude and Rios have done at Doha in the past. Ever been back to the training room of an ATP tournament? I have. They are ALL tired and beat...

    Can't miss... who missed

Mariano Zabaleta had an incredible record as a junior and never quite panned out. Arnaud DiPasquale was very talented but had too many injuries. He actually got to 30 something right after he left the juniors but then got hurt too much. Vinciguerra was talented too but fell into the injury...

Roger should stop hitting his BH slice return ASAP!

There was a point in the Wimbledon final this year when Fed hit a knifing hard slice backhand to Nadal's forehand side, Graf or Rosewall style and forced a Nadal error. We never saw him hit another one the rest of the match but I believe that shot is something he can use to great effect against...

Why do you guys keep changing your mind?

Yes he does have a lot of points early in the season. He will have to be careful to avoid injury the first few months next year stave off a challenge for the top spot.

    nadal and HC injuries

Doubt it.. cost is a big reason. Tournaments and clubs are not going to pick up and just resurface. Plus the variety of different surfaces can be promoted. I'd like to see a return to the old style carpet that went out of favor when men's tennis was threatened by serving monsters, for the...

Will sponsors start dumping Fed soon?

No because unlike a tennis message board full of hardcores which overanalyze everything, sponsors realize that athletes in the top 2-3 of their sport carry enormous marketing power. Federer's name is big worldwide and will continue to sell, probably even after he retires.

    Nadal has thinning hair?

You can get baldness from both sides of your parentage.

Which tennis player chokes more than Gasquet?

Yes if you are playing Nadal's lefty forehand, but that's pretty much a unique shot to have to deal with. One handers in general can be more flexible in their footwork whereas two handers generally need to prepare a little more with adjustment steps.

Which tennis player chokes more than Gasquet?

    Too many double faults :(

Which tennis player chokes more than Gasquet?

I actually think a two hander takes a little more energy for most players. Two handers have to have better positioning with their footwork and may need to take that extra step or two out wide. I do agree that its fitness for Gasquet. All players choke at some point, but Gasquet's problem...

Which pros have you seen play live? - impressions?

I've seen most of the top 100 from about 3-4 years back but haven't seen much live tennis the last few years. Olivier Rochus is truly impressive in person. He has beautiful technique and timing. To see a guy with his size competing at his level is amazing. All of the ATP guys are just...

    Roger is playing like crap

The backhand looks weak but when he chooses to go for it, it has lots of pace and flat as a pancake, and must be really a surprise after 4-5 off pace balls. Hitting so flat must be weird for other pros with the heavy topspin most guys are hitting.

Who Is Gill Simon ?? I Know He Is A Frenchman, But That Is About It.

Reminds me a *lot* of Karol Kucera, the way he glides around the court and just walks into his shots, with a little Sanguinetti mixed in. Watching him hit at times reminds me of growing up watching matches in the 80's with the old first generation graphite rackets, but he gets it done! he...
