How to stop blisters and bruises?

If your toenails are getting bruised/damage, you probably need a better fitting shoe. I have narrow feet and I think the Barricade's simply had too large of a toe box for me...used them for 4-6 months and completely wrecked my feet (lost 4 toenails and completely hammered one). I switched to...

    Your favourite socks

My experience has been that the Thorlo Court Edges hold up like no sock I've ever had (including Feetures Elite Max Cushion). However, if you have wide feet they may not work best as they seem to run quite narrow. Here is a run-down on things: 1. Padding: Thorlo has considerably more padding...

    Week 3 of Nationals is a big one - 18+ 4.0 and 4.5, 40+ 3.0 and 3.5

Haven't worn it but seems decent. I kind of wish i bought a hat while i was out there to give as a gift to someone. Oh well.

    Week 3 of Nationals is a big one - 18+ 4.0 and 4.5, 40+ 3.0 and 3.5

The bag tags suck...within a few hours of getting it mine started chipping/peeling. So, I had to put clear packing tape over it to try and preserve. The bag tags we got at sectionals are so much better -- not so obtrusive, colored metal, and direct engraving rather than a screen.

Yes, please tell us how we can see their proprietary dynamic ratings. I'd love to see where I am at in relation to the third-party estimators.

Anyone use Ashaway MonoGut ZX ?

There is no shaped monofilament Ashaway Zyex offering, but perhaps someone knows of another brand that offers some texture. I don't think it exists though. To get more spin potential, consider hybriding with a shaped poly main. Just know that the poly probably won't last as long as you might...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

I played tennis in HS. I played #1-#3 singles sophomore-senior year at a MW public school (~750 in our graduating class) that was consistently on the weaker side for tennis (no state championships ever, etc.). I don't know my exact record but it was probably around .600 and I never advanced to...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Well, the only thing I'll say to this is that TX did not get that title without a fight. Honestly, 2nd and 3rd place could have easily gotten it if the surrounding circumstances were just slightly different.

USTA League Nationals start in four days

That is so lame. This is rec tennis. Adult rec tennis at that. None of us make any money doing this, right? My local matches, especially sectionals, were more difficult than nationals!! I am telling you, the section I am in must be more competitive than others. Its as simple as that. Look, a...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Its all good. I'm a big boy/old man :D Wish I could help, but can't. Other than trying to predict their lineup and altering yours in your favor...not sure what else you can do. Best of luck! Yup, USTA has to step up and do something if there is reasonable evidence they are not operating...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Nope, not at all. I completed the self-rate questions with complete honesty when I became a USTA member. I absolutely self-rated at the correct level. I have since worked heavily to improve my game and anticipate receiving a corresponding computer rating at the end of this year. Shoot, even...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Okay, figured it was time to contribute to this thread as someone that actually competed at last weekend's 3.5 Nationals. First off, major congratulations and hats off to Texas on the win. They definitely brought a strong team and deserved to win, although you can see it was by a slim margin to...

Full bed Kevlar at low tension?

Umm, yeah, cutting Kevlar is quite easy with the proper tool (I used sharp kitchen scissors) and technique, cut at like a 30-45 degree angle in one motion. It doesn't matter for me if taut or loose. If you cut Kev right, I find it easier to string than poly or other strings EXCEPT in the case of...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Try 60 lbs on the Kevlar (pre-stretch it first of you can) and 40-45 on the crosses is fine. I like 62/42 in my current setup but have used up to 75/45. The tension on the crosses appears to influence the string bed feel/behavior more than the mains with this setup. Sent from my iPhone using...

    In praise of Kevlar/ZX hybrid!!!

Kind of agree. I found full bed multi, NG/ZX or NG/SG softer but uncontrollable (too powerful and not as spinny). Kev/ZX is king for me, just missing touch (has much better comfort than poly, equivalent spin, some free power while maintaining control, and durability/tension maintenance like...

    String weight

It really depends on the racket head size, string pattern, type of string, gauge, etc. A very rough ballpark is 20-30g of added weight from string. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone use Ashaway MonoGut ZX ?

What isn't factored (besides play time) is quite a few racket setups I've tried as well, and I almost always buy in pairs. So, that means more stringing to do....

Anyone use Ashaway MonoGut ZX ?

I have ZERO problems with ZXP breaks and use a cheap drop stringer. In fact, I have NEVER broken ZX/ZXP once strung up EXCEPT in a full bed with itself. Even then I'd get roughly 15 hours of play with it and I hit with heavy topspin and reasonable pace. As a hybrid with Kevlar or Poly mains it...

Anyone use Ashaway MonoGut ZX ?

My moderate-severe GE recovered while playing with Kev/ZXP and has not recurred for 1.5 years even though I play at least 5x/week (usually 16-20/hrs of tennis/week). Not even a twinge of discomfort or pain. May not work for everyone, but Kev/ZXP to me is SO much more comfortable then any poly...

    Save Those Crosses

Umm, one should never weave mains through crosses. You can, however, re-weave/tension crosses through mains when the racket is mounted on the stringer. The reasons to reuse crosses are listed in this thread (tension maintenance, performance, cost savings, etc) so not sure why you are asking why...

    What are the softest poly?

In prior threads you indicated you only believe published metrics/data. So, TW has a great string comparison tool that allows you to look at stiffness (which is definitely not the be all end all for comfort IMO). Asking here will just get you opinions. Another option is to go to the TW string...

Which type of player is the worst to play with?

I see these 2 as in conflict with each other. I do, at times, laugh at myself when I miss an easy shot because its a way of telling myself, "it's okay, **** happens". It is certainly better (for me and also the general match environment/opponent) to have some levity rather than to scream and fuss :)

Anyone use Ashaway MonoGut ZX ?

Try the crossfire the other way around. 60 on the Kevlar and 40-45 on the ZX. Make sure to prestretch both first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone use Ashaway MonoGut ZX ?

First, ZX/ZXP is definitely not a string for everyone. It is finicky to string up and has more inherent power than folks that are used to poly typically like. That said I think it is fantastic, especially as a cross to a low-powered main. The qualities you should be looking for are poly-like...
