Luxilon ALU power as a cross for Gut mains not all its cracked up to be

Revolve will play well for a while - certainly more than 10 hours ++/- depending on your level of play. IMO its biggest bonus (Revolve black) is it’s dent resistance. With the exception of Hawk 1.25 I haven’t found another round poly (cross) that just doesn’t dent/notch at all. Yes, ALU is an...

How can you tell (feel) when a poly is going dead ?

McLovin has it right. i think the easiest indicator is the lack of string movement meaning they’re notched (and shot). It’s easy to tell (on the fifteen or so I’ve tried). There are dent resistant strings making this check a little less obvious But it’s still a good checkpoint.

How do you convince yourself to play with an extremely valuable racquet?

If you’re a collector of such items and intend to display or resell the stick as memorabilia...do t play with it! Beyond that, does it make your game better?

    Gut/4G vs Gut\Tourbite

I agree, 4g is great in a hybrid but tends to dent and notch a little sooner than some others. All that said, it’s a no brained vs. the shaped Tourbite as a hybrid cross.

Obsessing over technique and never playing matches

Haha. I was going to reply that I’ve tried that (playing mXd with wife and working on technique) and both activities went downhill faster than a soapbox car. I’ve suggested video many times...but that bombed out too!

Need clarification for opponent exclaiming during a point

I can’t tell you what a hinderance is, but I know it when I see it. If it affected your prep or shot, call it. Mid it didn’t do either, chalk it up to playing in the bush leagues where ‘come on’ is thought to be Ok because it’s been heard on TV.

Djokovic v Federer v Sampras v McEnroe -original grass and racquets

I guess my question is ‘how original’ is the equipment? The original stick each player used coming onto the scene? Pete bridged the gap it seems to me, as far as equipment goes and took advantage of it (even commenting on ‘Cheat-a-Lon’). If they played with wood and gut in a FB, Mac would...

If Federer doesn't win a Slam in 2020, his stature won't be much better than Pete's

Pete’s ‘stature’ is plenty good and if Fed never wins another GS, won’t people be marveling at how close he was at 38 to tacking on insurance runs? I think so.

    Laver Cup Ridiculous Line-Ups

Relax, it’s indoor. Rafa can’t play inside and Jack Sock has added another 300 rpm to his FH.

At 33 years old: Nadal 19 Slams - Federer 17 Slams

Slam count or not, the King of Clay doesn’t have the ‘it’ required to carry tennis along as GOAT.

It’s crazy but it feels like Federer is out of the slam race

Fed is a candidate to keep going (if he wants to) and while few have done it after his ripe old 38, some come to mind that made a mark past that age (Brady, Geordie Howe, Nolan Ryan, Jeter, etc.)

Women’s tennis is more exciting than men’s tennis now

I watch because of the best of five sets they battle through, the court side coaching (and use of comfort animals) between sets and the special, heavier ball used just to slow the baseline bashing....

    Feds fabled longevity

I’d love to see a TUE report for all of the ‘top’ players, especially the ones over 30. One can’t help wonder if there’s a correlation between TUE’s with ep, 60, 90 days of a Grand Slam, and that particular athlete’s performance record.. I said ALL players.

Serena's amazing recent devolution in terms of slam finales.

The ‘why’ is easy. She’s older, heavier (she’s a mother, you know), slower, looks awkward/clumsy more often these days (typically after missing a shot) and seems to be sucking air when she never did before.

how Common is it to throw racquets?

In my younger days...I think I have tossed it...but not clear over the fence or adjacent court (so it doesn’t really count). It’s pretty bush in general.

Why do you think Murray didn't make the jump in sucess the top-3 did?

Simply, and purely from watching him over the years on the boob tube, he’s not that good. That’s not to say he isn’t a ‘great’ player...just not in the same way everybody is who isn’t a (current) Big 3. The world needs Harold Solomon’s too.

Svitolina is more proof that wearing a visor decreases actrivness by 3-4 pts

She apparently chose the wrong hitting partner. Gael gives away 35+# to Serena, so live fire from him just not quite the same. Maybe he should have a baby and then TUE his way to the top (of the ‘womens’ game)....

    Federer needs a new racquet!!!

Agreed. My old 6.1.95 (18-20) is barely larger than an RF/PS97. I guess there’s a 2 sq in difference all in all, but not enough to produce any effect on a potentially framed shot. That said, holding up a 100” ‘er up to the 97 makes about the same difference (none). This coming from a guy...

If rafa defies the odds and wins USO djokovic still the best now

Nadal is a worse faker than a soccer player. His arm problem reminded me of Rodney Dangerfield when he bowed out of the match against Judge Smails. Gotta have a built in excuse though, just in case Berrettini begins to roll him. The powder will then have dignity....

Would you say this year's US Open is "Federer's to lose?" Or "Nadal's to lose?"

According to the seeding, it was Djoker’s to lose, and then Nadal’s, then Rogers’s and then Big Dom’s.... Fed would seem to hold an edge because of the surface (it’s not clay). Age means little at this point.

    Kyrgios trolls Djokovic yet again

It’s close, but I think Nick is a better ball-buster than he is tennis player. Actually, he does a few things on court spectacularly well - change tennis player to ‘tournament winner’. Nole should ditch the rabbit ears. He’s 32. The tough guy attitude (in NYC) is a stretch at his stage...

Boris offers to coach Nick but Nick says "Nope"

Nick plays everyone else as if they’re not worthy. Who knows, maybe they not! But unless GS trophies start fall off the crowded mantle soon, all of the bravado that goes with hitting a tweener volley to an open court, down double match point, will be left in the dust bins of what-if....

    Pickleball is spreading

Ahh yes, Pickle is such a competitive sport, the IOC is considering it for the 2028 games. There will be brackets by age. The Gold for the over 75 group will have medals made of dried sponge as many of the competitors would have trouble biting the ‘real’ Gold medal. Can’t wait.

Three reasons why I think Nadal is currently very dangerous

To the ‘quicker routine’ - when the pressure is on, he’ll do what he does best: double swipe, wipe, pull, adjust, pick. I do think he plays more in rhythm when he speeds things up, but it somehow gives him time to think. He’s probably been watching Kyrgios for pointers on his step to the line...
