    Only 1 singles for Nationals 40+ :(

Yeah, not as much urgency down here since our 40+ leagues won't start until February. Although registration opens up in December I think. I wonder how other Areas in Georgia are going to handle this. Most of them already play the 2/3 format. I'm betting they go to the new 1/3 format for league...

    Only 1 singles for Nationals 40+ :(

I received confirmation from USTA Atlanta that we are going to stay with the 1/4 format through City Finals and will then go to the new 1/3 format at State and beyond.

Yet Another 2020 Rule Change - Grievances Against Captains of DQ'd Players

Is this how the previous rule was worded? This is what appears for Atlanta in the 2020 rules section. Wondering if they just didn't change it or decided against enforcing the new rule.

Yet Another 2020 Rule Change - Grievances Against Captains of DQ'd Players

Would this be going forward from now or would past seasons count? There is a team who always has one or two self rates incorrectly rate each season so they can win at 4.0. He's had 3 players DQ'ed in the past 24 months.

    Only 1 singles for Nationals 40+ :(

Still no word from Southern/GA/Atlanta about this topic. But our 40+ season will not start until February of next year so perhaps they are just going to wait until then.

Yep, and you never see league fees go down with a cut in play.

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Just stating the facts whether you choose to believe it or not. I've played against a team that went to Nationals and 100% know that the people on that team sandbag and tank matches to stay at that level.

USTA League Nationals start in four days

I guarantee if you look at just the participants at Nationals it's a heck of a lot higher than 1%. If team doesn't have several members playing under level then they wouldn't have gotten there in the first place. If a team does have all people at level then they aren't going to have a chance...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Where I've seen this happen they normally self rate at say 4.0 in the Fall. Then play two meaningless matches to get their computer rating so that the next year they can do whatever they want without the fear of being DQ'ed. Then after that year they are put at the proper level. That is what...

    Only 1 singles for Nationals 40+ :(

I'm wondering what Southern, well more specifically Georgia will do with these new rules. They've petitioned before about keeping the 1/4 format when USTA wanted everyone to go to the 2/3 and won. It might get confusing to play the 1/4 format for league play, switch to 2/3 for State/Sectionals...

USTA League Nationals start in four days

Just last year at Nationals there was a guy on the Southern team that should have been a 5.0 rated playing 4.0 tennis. After Nationals he did get double bumped up to 5.0 where he belonged. So some people do play two levels below where they should be whether you've ever seen it or not.

Normal for winner to get fresh can of balls from loser?

It still amazes me the number of people who act clueless about having to fork over a new can of balls (provided they didn't open a can to start the match) when they lose. I think most are just butt hurt sore losers. This past weekend we were at home and my partner opened a can. We won and...

Headed Nationals.... needs some travel tips

Yeah, I think about 90% of the bags carried on wouldn't fit into what they suggest but it's not enforced that much. I do have a feeling if I brought my 6 pack Babolat bag it would get turned down and I'd have to check it. I guess if I ever do have to fly with my sticks I'll be getting some...

Headed Nationals.... needs some travel tips

Do they really allow a tennis bag as a carry on? I'm almost certain my tennis bag is taller than my normal carry on suitcase and it's on the bigger size for carry ons. Or are people using the backpack style racket bags instead of a racket shaped bag?

Appeal Up player now playing at level - anyone seen this ?

I saw this last season. There was a guy who was a 4.0 that played on a 4.5 team the majority of the time. When ratings came out I noticed him specifically because I had just played in in the playoffs and he was still a 4.0. A few weeks later I did a report of everyone who got bumped in my area...

    Middle States 4.5 Sectionals

Gotcha. So in a weak draw someone could win the tournament but end up lowering their rating by dropping enough games to weak players. Just seems like a waste but I guess it's the same principle as sandbagging in league play.

    Middle States 4.5 Sectionals

I'm not sure I understand how people would use tournaments to sandbag. Are you saying people would pay $40+ to play in a tournament and then play a match and lose it on purpose to help lower their rating? Seems like it would be very costly and one match here and there wouldn't effect your...

Longest local league drive in USTA leagues?

I use to routinely drive 45 minutes to every home match for years until I moved a little closer. Also played in a Chattanooga league where it was 118 miles round trip. Stopped that after a couple of seasons, just to far to go.

    Singles sticks in sanctioned play?

I've never seen them used in my area during any league match whether it's playoff, State, or Sectional play. Not sure about tournaments.

Most oppressive weather conditions you've ever played in?

I'd have to say it was at 40+ Sectionals down in Mobile, AL. Court temperature was around 125 degrees. There wasn't an available cot inside the IV trailer. Midway into my second match that day I was toast and lost in a super tie breaker.

Sandbagged by probable 4.5 in usta 3.5 tournament

Your win/loss record is almost meaningless to ratings. I've seen guys go 16-2 and not get bumped and I've seen guys go 7-9 and get bumped. The guy who got bumped going 7-9 typically played line 1 doubles and played against the other teams best players (most of the time). He won some matches...

    Mixed tennis

I play mixed with a lot of 4.5 and 5.0 women and most don't have any problem telling me what they think I need to do during a match. It doesn't bother me and I welcome any input that they might have and hopefully when I have something to say they welcome it as well. Communication during a match...

    Revamping 40+ league?

Wow. And I thought it was bad going from 1/4 to 2/3. I can see some advantages with that if you happen to have a couple of strong singles players on the roster. At our best all 4 lines of doubles are pretty strong but typically we are missing a couple of people which makes one line very...

    Revamping 40+ league?

It must be in an area outside of Atlanta then. When I say Atlanta I mean registering and playing under Atlanta. There are several area's within close proximity of Atlanta such as EVTA and SCTA for example that do not have to follow USTA Atlanta rules. But if it's Atlanta then it's the 1/4...

How Many Racquets Do You Bring To A Match And Are They Identical?

I have 3 rackets that are pretty much identical. I use one until I can tell it needs to be restrung then I move on to the next one. That way I know I always have at least one fresh racket in the bag. Just the way I've always done it and it works for me. Everyone has their own routine that...

    Revamping 40+ league?

I really don't know why they chose to go with the 4/1 format. It was that way when I started playing 40+ in 2014. I wouldn't say it's an issue fielding two singles courts, we do that in 18+ without much difficulty. Our team has gone through transitions and it seems the past couple of years we...

    Revamping 40+ league?

It's always been 4 courts of doubles with 1 court of singles here in GA (Atlanta) for 40+. But once you get to State and beyond it goes to 3 courts of doubles and 2 courts of singles. I'd love if they made it where it didn't change once you got to state.
