Demo'd over 12 rackets and bought one with an open string pattern. After some string experimenting my choice is poly mains and syn crosses - 17's. After hours of testing and playing different setups nobody can convince me that strings and string patterns "do not" make a difference. Go and try...
Just bought a APDGT from a local shop for list price out the door. Paid cash and he ate the tax and he included a hybrid string job. A friend just bought a used one on cl for $120. It was in very good shape. imo - $150 used with some used demo strings you know nothing about is not that good of...
I asked a similar question a few weeks back - see link below. Ended up going with PHT syn mains and Solinco Tour poly crosses. I like the way the APDGT plays and would not hesitate to string it this way again.

Yes, AC. Did not realize this thing is 20 yrs old. Researched the detent piece and found that it is recommended to be replaced every 3 to 4 yrs no matter the usage. The Lobster detent costs ~$80+ and may not fit. May pass on this thing - I appreciate the info!
Are these any good? Thinking about buying a used one. Not sure how they work and how reliable they are.

I bought a racket so no string setup on it. The demo syn strings were ok, just interested in more control.
Given thebuffman's explanation, the stringers recommendation has some merit albeit somewhat unorthodox.
Are you also saying that by lowering the power on the strings, control would increase? This would make sense as the desired effect is a little better control.
Bought a racket and the stringer wants to put poly's on the crosses and syn on the mains. What does this do compared to all syn or poly on the mains and syn on the crosses?
This stuff about Nadal and apdgt was a huge surprise to me. Have been using the same stick for 6 yrs and decided to demo. The shop owner gave me an apgt. I pulled it out for a doubles match and two guys started in with the "who is your sponsor, you must hit like Nadal..." stuff. I was caught...
Found a used Winn Pro MN-1000 for #300. I cant find much info on it. Seems that they are not made any longer. Want to start stringing myself, just have no idea if this is a good deal or not. One thing I read is that this stringer may not support oversized racquets. Any feedback appreciated...
