Tennis has the Best Athletes of Any Other Sport

Tennis does not have the best athletes. There are at least several sports that have greater athletes than tennis. As of late, tennis has become more of an endurance test, but tennis, even in that venue, pales to some other endurance tests. Put simply, there are athletes in other sports that...

Nadal - Unique achievement in Big Tournament Finals

Sampras probably would beat Fed on fast surfaces. He would dominate Nadal on fast surfaces. IMO, Sampras is mentally tougher than both of them.

Nadal - Unique achievement in Big Tournament Finals

Nadal is dominant on only one surface and at one major....which is bewildering considering all of the other majors have been slowed to speeds which should suit his game perfectly. Nadal couldn't have picked a better era in which to play, and there is a credible argument that he has...

Li Na victory is huge for Asian tennis.

Li Na is awesome.....really happy to see her win this one after the unfortunate mishap at last year's Aussie Open.

What aspects of Stan's game Federer lacks nowadays?

Stan has more firepower off both wings and on serve than Fed or pretty much any player on tour. He was hitting through both Nole and Nadal....neither could match his overall package of power. Over the past 18 months, he has dramatically improved his serve and his FH. Both are now monster...

So they speed up the conditions

The conditions may have been slightly faster than last year but still relatively slow. I have never seen all four slams play so slow. Some like....some don't... but slow court specialists should be ruling the day at all of the slams.

Stan really earned and deserved this Slam

I have to say that Stan, match to match, played the best tourney of any male player by a fairly convincing margin. It's really nice to see that effort fully rewarded, especially in light of his disappointments in close matches last year. He is playing as big or bigger on all strokes as any...

Nothing that occurs in a tennis match can transform your opinion into a fact.

Berdych and Stan: who has a better chance?

In current form, Stan stands a better chance against either of them. He is playing as big off both wings as any player on the planet and his serve is routinely in the mid to high 120s and sometimes in the 130s. That's huge tennis.

AO 2014 SF Nadal vs. Federer

The new stick has helped and Fed has made the transition far more easily than many could. There is no denying, however, that Fed has gradually lost a couple of steps over the last four-five years and those missing steps hurt him most against Nole and Nadal. Fed should have switched rackets...

AO 2014 SF Nadal vs. Federer

Fed will try to end points early....Nadal will attempt to make it an endurance test. In this match, Fed stands about the same chance as a 32 year-old Nadal would stand against a 27 year-old Fed.....not extremely high. Much credit to Fed though for raising his level and getting this...

    AO14 QF: NADAL vs. DIMITROV

Fowler, when lost for a comment, simply repeats the pharse, "Nadal trying to get to Dimi's legs." I thinks he's said it six times.

Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) [5] vs. Victoria Azarenka (BLR) [2]

That seemed more like Neo cruising through the Matrix than a tennis match. Sick stuff....hope she carries it forward.

Play in a blindfold...b/c it seemed like she knew exactly where every shot was going before Az even hit the ball.

Match and play of the tournament so far-- from either the men or the women. Just jaw dropping play.

    Whats wrong with djokovic?

Nole has gotten away from the offensive tennis that garnered him the remarkable run in 2011. It's pretty simple. He plays too passively at times. I knew Stan would be trouble b/c he is committed to first strike tennis and if you give him the chance to crack the FH, he will take it. Stan is...

    Official AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2014 Thread

The ball is looking very big to Fed tonight. His approach instincts are better than I've ever seen them...no hesitation whatsoever. Wish he had switched rackets and hired Edberg a few years ago.

Wawrinka will beat Djokovic in the quarters

Stating the obvious here but Tsonga also is a threat to anyone if he serves well.

Wawrinka will beat Djokovic in the quarters

IMO, Stan and Delpo are currently the biggest threats to Nole, Murray and Nadal at the majors. I might rank Stan ahead of Delpo in the threat category. Stan is playing a very big game.

This final, this court... this is a shame to the sport.

These matches have become simple tests of stamina. It's the Tour De France....not the U.S. Open. As for the reason that such matches are a shame, proclaiming the true reason would simply get this thread deleted.
