****the Official Head Youtek Prestige Mid Club****

Joining the club this coming week. Played 1.5 hours with the demo, it clicked within 5 minutes. Love how crisp this feels, the plowthrough, etc. Maybe I adjusted quickly, but this thing serves as well as my n6.1 95 18x20 did, far, far more pop than my current stick (due to weight I would...

[Ask] Yonex RDiS 100 Mid vs Head Prestige Mid

Just tried each today. Vastly prefer the stiffness, control and plow of the Youtek Prestige Mid. The RDis 100 Mid felt out of control to me, but I hate low density string patterns, so I might not be the best person to take advice from.

    Favorite YouTek Prestige?

No idea why the reviews were so poor. Could be the players. The most negative reviews came from players who enjoy mushy more powerful racquets. The most accurate review came from a player who seems more of the target audience. Obviously different people have different tastes, but the...

    (Q) Harrison vs (15) Ljubcic

Yeah, Ljubicic certainly gave him some help, but Harrison capitalized on it and stayed cool under the pressure.

    (Q) Harrison vs (15) Ljubcic

Same. Not sure how he usually is, but he seems like a good kid. Not *****ing and whining like a certain other American male. Also, I like his variety. Serving and volleying, throwing up lobs... he's playing very mature tennis.

    (Q) Harrison vs (15) Ljubcic

Break in the third. Not bad for a kid against a veteran.

    Tapering for districts?

I would rest (i.e. no long matches), but I would be sure to keep your timing and game up with some practice sessions.

    Top 17 psych jobs described.

Huh. Never ran up against a single one of those. Not sure if this applies, but the fake injury psych could be a misinterpretation on the other players part. Some people will play through the pain, and it might not seem like it affects their game. E.g. I'm in pain whenever I hit a forehand...

Diet Soda-Why IS IT BAD FOR YOU?

2-3 diet sodas a day seems excessive. Calories aren't the only thing to worry about. Some here have mentioned many of the other issues (increased craving, calcium depletion, etc.). The long term effects of the chemicals seem un-proven to me, but I would certainly be aware that they may be...

"Tennis Is the Most Damaging Sport"

I might be inclined to agree with the generalization if you take into account the level of tennis being played. There are certainly a wide variety of injuries that regularly plague above average tennis players.

Tips to deal with mishits and bad bounces?

Just got back from a grass court tournament. Nearly every ball that hits the ground will bounce differently than expected. I'll probably overlook some things, but I focused on the following: 1.) Don't plant your feet. Be ready for a small adjustment on the bounce. 2.) Be prepared to adjust...

    NTRP Rate My Game...

Recovery is important, but I don't think the focus should be on the middle of the court. Lsmkenpo makes a good point... Your opponent has a range of angles he can hit based on a given shot. It makes the most sense to try to position yourself between these angles somewhat, taking into account...

    NTRP Rate My Game...

Good to see someone post a video and listen to the feedback without bickering over everyone's critiques. Agreed. I had similar good fortune. Don't worry about NTRP at this point. Keep working on your game and get some match experience against a variety of different players. Also, at...

Doubles in USTA league: Good, bad, and ugly

This. Rushing the net regardless of your skill, team dynamics and the current situation is not an appropriate strategy at any level of the game. I rarely make it up to net. Yet I somehow squeeze out wins against players at or above my level, and can win with a lower level players (that...

Doubles in USTA league: Good, bad, and ugly

Nope. When I play with people I don't know very well (occasional USTA matches, subbing in a club, etc.), I occasionally get scolded for my style, despite my prior indication of my play, and despite the effectiveness of my game. It all depends on the player and the team. Some can...

Women's SF: (1) Serena Williams (USA) vs Petra Kvitova (CZE)

wait, NBC is supposed to be covering this, aren't they? http://aeltc2010.wimbledon.org/en_GB/about/tvschedule/tv_usa.pdf I see Federer re-playing on ESPN2 and NBC has a bunch of blathering twits. wtf is going on? ***edit: ohh... typical delay. I see.

Doubles in USTA league: Good, bad, and ugly

Haha, that's awesome. I love when other players try to teach their partners. I'm an odd doubles player. Prefer to play back unless the situation warrants (sitter and other attackable situations, even on serve). Also, uncomfortable at the net. I tell all my partners this. People who insist...

    Tournament... with a consolation

Okay, so I'm not crazy :) thanks for the clarifications! Kind of upsetting. I'm used to a few tournaments that don't even mention it (these actually have deep feed-in consolation draws). Should have asked before signing up :(

    Tournament... with a consolation

Just a question on phrasing. On the USTA tennislink site for a tournament, it specifically says: "This is a ... Tournament with a consolation." How would you interpret this? I entered this tournament thinking... consolation draw. In the context of a tournament, consolation would...

    Mahut vs. Isner

Crazy match. Had this on in the background all day. It is unbelievable that they made it through the whole day without a break. Unbelievable. I don't care how BAD someone is at returning, going that many games without a break due to a sloppy game is an amazing achievement. The mental...

Won the game without breaking the ace record. heh. Kinda sucks that whomever wins this will be out next round.

    Mahut vs. Isner

This is nuts. Even though the points aren't top notch, the physical fitness and mental toughness to get this far into the 5th set is stunning.

ESPN coverage of slams is horrible

I absolutely love that both Shriver (or some other awful commentator) and Gilbert have interrupted play by talking or yelling during the match. Amazing.

ESPN coverage of slams is horrible

I don't understand the preoccupation with showing commentators in a studio when tennis is being played. Who the hell comes up with these ideas? These airheads are awful DURING the tennis, but REPLACING tennis with their blather? Fire whomever made that decision.

    I'm playing a 5.5 tonight...

Why would anyone knowingly *want* to play against watered down competition? If winning is more important than challenge or good competition, something is wrong with you. Sadly, I think you might be right.
